I believe say a good number of us don see the thread for reputation where them link one user way supposedly be Nigerian account to a farm account for another local board.

I don dey this forum before we get local board so I no be new person here. When we first get local board, we get open discussion for forum on our language of preference and majority agree English and pidgin. I be one of those people way no see reason why we go restrict the lb to only pidgin but recent events don make me see otherwise. People dey litter here like say tomorrow no dey, and when their nonsense reach general board, them go tag am say na Naija board.

I feel like this na the right time for us to revisit the discussion of approved language for our local board. I know say na big adjustment but imo na for the betterment of the board. Wetin una think?
PS: please use the poll. I know say the topic go vex some people, abeg try resist the urge to post “I told you so”. He dey okay for people to get different opinions and also change their mind over time.

I fit relate to Wetin you Dey talk, especially if the same issue keeps happening and some people are using the local board as an excuse for low quality posts. But I don’t think the language itself is the main problem sha. Even if we wan restrict the board to pidgin, people can still spam if they are only interested in farming post.

So I think reinvesting the language is worth discussing. Maybe instead of banning English now we fit agree on clearer rules about the local board . The poll is a good way to see what the majority actually wants rather than assuming everyone has the same opinion

Personally I like to say make we speak pidgin only but sometimes me self Dey make mistake start to write for English and that thing Dey make me no fit reply well sometimes because when I don go half I go remember pidgin but any how, I for like make we Dey use naija slangs to Dey talk anything so that all this people no fit relate to weytin we Dey yan.

This whole thing no supposed dey cause fight at all, some people are good and also enjoy speaking pidgin while others too are not good at it at all and they don't flow with it. Without attacking anyone, we fit dey talk say people wey no sabi pidgin should write in plan English but be encouraged to learn the pidgin since there is uniqueness in doing that over here in local, it is not always easy for me to write in pidgin through out my post here and why most times na mixing the both wey me I dey do. They can not anymore if we are speaking only pidgin here, if you use translator to change your English to pidgin people go catch you very quickly because AI go detect am as AI and again me as I Dey like this if you use translator to change your writing to pidgin I go catch you very fast e no go even hard me.
If we catch 1 or 2 people the rest go run, if we leave our local board like this e go spoil because scammers and cheaters go Dey use our local board identity always.

The other day I see another local board person use Nigeria to create account way en use go talk rubbish for meta board, our local board na just dumping ground for everyone. It will get worse in the future, but we can stop it now.

Baba this issue we don discuss am taya many people don open threads about am taya. Na so so back and forth we just dey go, what we need now is actions. The poll will it eventually be used whatever the outcome is?.

A lot of bad eggs Dey com here wey we no know of. E beta say na we dey do our things than say na another person dey spoil our name. This issue of using pigin language did not start today. I remember creating a thread about The need to use more pigin language in our local board sometimes last year when I started noticing that almost every post in the local board was made in English language. This thread had a lot of negative energy and it was brutally kicked against. What we're debating today has been long debated and I don't think there can be a unanimous agreement among the local board users. The case of Token Tikas is just one of the many disadvantages of not having any identity (language wise).

This forum is a very large place with a freedom of speech and no body can be forced into using a particular language so you can choose to use pigin or English language as you wish to use.

I will suggest that, even though pigin is not made compulsory, at least the first post anyone is making on the local board (introduction) should be made in pigin language. It is true that Ai can allow anyone to make any post in any language but then, let it be that it's in the rules whether it's effective or not. People claiming to be from Nigeria are those bringing the bad name to Nigerians. I will also suggest that if you know anyone who's using the Nigerian identity when he's not a Nigerian, you can report to @igebotz through PM or thread so that he would know how to tackle it before hand.

Me I go like make e be pidgin alone for the local board. Even me, I no dey good at writing in pidgin, but I still prefer the local board to get him own language. Wetin be the point of getting local board if we go still dey speak English? Why American or British local board o dey? We're not going to segregate the board and make it inconvenience for some other Nigerians with zero Pidgin background for the sake of building a "bridge" to stop intruders.

You may be right. I don’t visit other local boards, I don’t even know what I will be doing there considering I have mine and the general board has more than enough interesting topics. It’s great to have an open board, the problem is having imposters come here to distance themselves from their farm. So far, we have lucky to have only one case and I would like to keep it that way.

For 20 plus years living in Nigeria, I have never heard the word “zero pidgin background” lol. Even children of the elites that never went to public school or grew up in gated communities can understand pidgin. You lot are making it sound as if pidgin is tribal language. It’s like going to Jamaica and saying Patois is not widely understood by the people just because English is the official language of the country.
