I haven't heard of such business model before, does such a business actually exist or it was a made up story to scam.

Another question is; why did he choose you for the business? i am curious if they have sent such a message to other big names of the forum.

I have never seen a scammer who mentioned that he is a scammer after sending a message. Why did he have to explain that he is not a scammer, it means the message appears suspicious even in the eyes of the sender.

You literally have done a great Job by tagging this user negative trust. I am surprised to see the creation date of this user account which is just 3 days ago. After creating account he sent you massage. Isn't it strange? I truely doubt that this user is an alt account of some here who used a new account from making scam deals. And secondly whoever he is, he might know 8n which country you live, right? As what I understand he was looking for a person who is resident in USA. He wanted to take advantage of your nationality, maybe. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Question: is it possible to catch the real person behind this? Using IP log? If this account Ip log matches with any other account? Maybe i think admins have power of doing this job, right?

It's good you flagged this immediately, and thanks for letting us know as well. I was reading it and was imagining the unimaginable risks involved in this ungodly proposal. The risk of the US and EU punishments are not even my fear, but the risk to life. Mafias like this can go any length to cover their tracks.

You've done a great job by positing it here as now you've proof that you haven't anything about that business and there's no involvement from your side. Another good step you took is by negative tagging that user so others can be safe from such type of users. Either the OP of that message is doing a crime or he was trying to steal your Bitcoin in any case you've done the best thing by reporting that newbie account.

This offer is considered a crime for all the countries. I don’t think any government allows handling dirty money. On the other hand, the whole PM seems to me just a scam attempt. If someone has a lot of dirty money, then he should be well aware of how to purchase Bitcoin since that scammer is familiar with Bitcoin.

Since you reported to the admin, they will ban it; it’s not only for the scam attempt but also for the unsolicited PM, which is against forum rules. But the real concern is that the scammer would create another account and may offer the same things to other users to scam them. Who knows if someone falls into this trap?

The greatest contradiction in his proposal has to be this," he's not fake, or a scammer", but he deals in dirty and unverified cash, wants to use your channel to 'wash' the dirty money and tie the business to your identity, thereby making you a criminal. The thing is that he was on his way to scam you in the first place and if it was real and you had proceeded with this business, when the law catch up with you, you'll be bearing the weight alone because he'll just disappear. It's best you reported him and publicly declared you're not interested in his offer, that way you've proper evidence to back you up just in case.

I feel like this thread belongs on the Reputation board, since it was about a newbie forum member rather than the forum itself. You already did your part. As others suggested, I would repeat the same thing: do not allow newbies to send you messages. You can avoid receiving unsolicited messages from newbies this way. I think most people do not receive such PMs. I assume the sender is a scammer and is targeting people who might have a good amount of Bitcoin or other cryptos.

Since you are a known Miner in this forum, they decided to reach out to you and try their luck. You are probably more concerned about the law and ethics. But I am kind of certain that it was a scam attempt.

It's an old scam that happened in the EU for a while, the fake cash is all you will get, when you contact the guy it will go on like this:

- he has a ton of money with small defects because Euros were printed for different countries, totally legal but he can't clean them all, he needs you to help him with for 20%, you say you're interested
- a few days later he rushes you with a message that he wants a deal he has a ton of money, but he needs to kow you're to be trusted so he sends you a mail with 1000, you only need to send 900 back via whatever method, but it must be done ASAP to prove you can do it before they send you 100 000
- greed takes over, you say what you have to lose, they will be sending 100k next, right...so you send 900 out of your pocket in a rush and you are left with 1000 fake money
- and the guy never contacts you back because who the hell would do

In this case, with Phil, he will be sending $900 worth of BTC, and that would be the end of it

Will theymos be able to set up a filter to automatically detect such PM contents and block it immediately?

It will be safer for forum users but I don't know that the admins (theymos and Cyrus) will want to do that because it seems admins never want to read user PMs and it's good if they maintain this principle for user privacy.

I am only curious that whether there are any exceptions with criminal-related contents in PMs.

You mean this might be a sting operation? Why are you so scared if this is just a PM that has nothing to do with you?

The "As who is to say who sent it" was understandable, but imo, that's a half-baked offer to assume it's an entrapment from the government. Nobody in their right senses would buy that except a dumb, potential criminal that is desperately willing to go behind bars.

Detecting malicious sentences might require more keywords and how they're structured. I'm not sure it's always a misdirection.
Since admins are limited to moderating PMs, the best filtering effort is to limit PMs to newbies, as these kinds of offers are rarely sent by high-ranking users.

How he expects you to fall for this is what I don't understand. Deals like this are proposed to people that are rugged and gready.

Since Royse77 also received similar message, I think the potential scammers are targeting reputable users they suspect have bitcoin to test whether their strategy will work.

What is the punishment for sending unsolicited pm? Perm ban or temporal ban? Because I think that's what they deserve not just negative trust.

He's not scared but a cautious person. The PM is a open invitation to commit a federal crime. Just engaging with this kind of offer can create exposure, A criminal would never report and warn other about this kind of offers. By opening this thread he demonstrated that he don't have any intention to participate and instead choose to expose him.
I hope he ignored that scammer so that the scammer can't Pm him again.

 Two things; it's either a scam attempt or a method to catch people who indulge in this but are covering up. This is a tempting offer and since it's a "secured location", it's still going to raise eyebrows but those who do this will know its risky but will show interest by asking for more information or better yet, try to negotiate a meeting with the sender's sources.( Seen these sort of shit happen a lot in movies)
Good thing you reported it to this forum, and took the action you did. Whether or not it's a crime in the US, it's still looking like a criminal activity and any form of interest you show could be used.
