Match-fixing in table tennis — is this group legitimate?

I recently joined a group related to table tennis betting, and something about it has made me curious.

The person running the group usually only shares matches involving 2–3 specific players, mainly one from the Polish league and another from the Czech league. It's not like many scam groups I've seen, where they constantly share matches involving dozens of different players and claim to have “inside information” on everyone.

In this case, it almost seems like this person has information specifically about these particular players, which is what made me suspicious in the first place.

I know that this alone doesn't prove that any matches are fixed, and I'm not trying to accuse anyone without evidence. But does anyone know whether there have been documented cases of match-fixing involving players in the Polish or Czech table tennis leagues?

Also, what would be the best way to distinguish between someone who genuinely has useful information and someone running a betting scam?

I'm interested in hearing from people who actually follow these leagues or have experience with table tennis betting.

Update: I actually spoke with the person who runs the group, and one thing I initially found strange was the posting history. There were only around 4 posts over an 8-month period, followed by another 2 posts about a month later.

I asked him about this, and he explained that he only shares matches when he's confident about them because he claims to have contacts who provide him with information. He also said that after sharing a few matches involving the same players, he deliberately waits before posting anything else from them so that it doesn't look suspicious or attract too much attention.

To be honest, from his point of view, that explanation actually makes some sense to me. It would also explain why he doesn't constantly post matches involving dozens of different players like many obvious scam groups do.

Of course, this still doesn't prove that the information is genuine or that there is any match-fixing involved. I'm just sharing the update because I initially found the posting pattern suspicious, but after speaking to him, I can at least understand the reasoning behind it.

I'm still trying to figure out whether this is genuinely inside information or simply a more sophisticated betting scam.

When it comes to groups like this there is a 99% chance the picks are scams and they are trying to promote their referral links to build downlines in the context of sharing the picks.

But if you truly want to investigate, document every pick they make and then actual outcome from the game. Anything else you find suspicious, document that as well. Once a good number of games have completed, review the data to check how correct they were or how wrong.

You might think now that because they are speaking only about specific players, they might be actually carrying insider information. Think again, if it was so, they would use that information to bet huge amount of money and win loads and not share it.

You came to a random forum to talk about the group before actually talking about it with the person that runs the group? I smell a deceptive peomotion here, looking to get people interested in a match fixing ring.
You did not share what your aim was when joining the group and if you paid an entry fee to do so. But whatever the case, you shouldn't be asking questions about it anywhere else cause you have more information than us.

Match fixing is against the rules of all sports and casinos and frowned upon by the legitimate gambling community.

I don’t know the current situation but almost two years ago, in local Russian table tennis matches many people were caught for match fixing. Many times tipsters had information about fixed matches and many people made money from it. I received such matches in my DMs as well but I completely ignored them. I didn’t believe that matches would actually be fixed but sadly, they were and people were taking advantage of it.

I believe everything should be played fairly, so I just wanted to know whether these were actually fixed matches or simply predictions. I contacted some of the players who were placing bets and they said the matches were indeed fixed but the maximum bet amount was hardly 40–50 usd.

Currently I think similar incidents are happening in the Polish and Czech local leagues. However, I don’t suggest anyone to bet on those matches. If you get caught then the sportsbook might confiscate your winnings.

Table tennis is not a popular sport so I don't know much about it to actually say whether I feel like there is match fixing from what you're saying but as far as it's a sport there is chances of match fixing so you cannot rule out the possibilities no matter your doubts. You cannot proof anything if you don't have a concrete evidence about match fixings in table tennis games but if a tipster is always accurate about betting on specific players and at specific games then you cannot rule out the higher possibilities of match fixings.

I believe that match fixings can be common in unpopular sports and leagues that are not lucrative. But like TheUltraElite, pointed out why would somebody who is privileged to have information about match fixing share it? They would rather keep the information to themselves and be winning secretly so it's likely that those players are exceptionally talented and he believes that they will always win their matches against certain opponents.

In unpopular sports, where the money is relatively low, there will always be cheating. Cheating also thrives in sports with individual players, such as tennis and table tennis. Where there's one player instead of a team, it's easier to fix a match. Fixing a match with a team is difficult. More accurately, it's not difficult to fix, but it's difficult to keep it a secret. Unpopular individual sports offer ideal conditions for cheating and match-fixing. Moreover, table tennis requires a great deal of dexterity. It's easy to make it look like you accidentally missed the ball or clumsily hit it toward your opponent.

I think the bigger cheating in fact happens in the big leagues where no one suspects it will be done. There is very little amount of money in table tennis and also very little fan base so not really interesting to the big guys while is completely different for big leagues where huge money is being made by fixing the games. How do you otherwise explain the surprise results happening every week in all the major leagues in soccer and other well known sports. As for such random groups never trust them, scammers become more and more sophisticated with the passing of time.

Seriously, if the previous call was very accurate including the recent match then it’s legit match fixing. Accuracy and the number of match won on same person are crucial info to determine it. It’s normal that it’s limited to few selection since not all players will be onboard on match fixing.

You shouldn’t involved on this kind of activity regardless of its legit since bookie will surely caught you being involved of shady organization if you have a betting pattern that always results to a win.

There's a chance it is real if he is trying to be careful with his bets. Also, he may be connected to those players, which is why he doesn't want any eyes on him by placing bets too often. If this is a professional table tennis league, the players who are participating and are connected with him could be banned too, which is why he rarely shares the information.
I think these kinds of signals are more legit because he is being cautious, unlike those who keep sharing information every day and try to get paid for it. For me, those are not really signals but more like a person who is just guessing the results and probably a scammy attempt.

Also, what would be the best way to distinguish between someone who genuinely has useful information and someone running a betting scam?
Its simple really: someone who has legit info on match fixing won't share it to some random people on the internet because it will only increase the chance of getting detected and caught (and people massively putting money on certain table tennis players will raise red flags) Instead, he will try to keep it low and make as much as he can.

Tldr, its a scam. Don't let greediness cloud your judgement.

Usually groups like what OP asked are aiming two things.

Either they just want to farm referral same as what you have said, since doing that is truly profitable to them. Or they just want to scam people thru premium or VIP picks that they offer later on usually they offer this to their group and scam those newbies who believes in their lies.

Its so stupid for them to release those pick if that came on insiders. For sure they can earn more if they didn't broadcast and solely place bets on those data's they have.

So everything offered by this group is pure lies and newbies should avoid it. They provably get more decent prediction if they just try to research those information on legit sources online.

Yeah and this is no brainer.

Because imagine why they would sell those information they are handling while the fact they can solely earn huge money if their picks truly works or have bigger chance to win.

But sad to see that even there are lots of red flags show there are still people fall on those traps.

Your suspicion is not entirely unfounded. But giving tips on only 2-3 specific player cannot be said to be proof of match fixing. At the same time it is also true that there have been many report of suspicious betting activity in Czech table tennis recently. I heard some teams were banned. But match fixing data are not published as you said.

Does he publish all predictions with timestamps before the start of match?
Does he keep his lost predictions? Or delete them asap?
Is there any long term independently verifiable record? Or just show screenshots of winning bets?

But don't fall into the temptation of 100% fixed & guaranteed win.
They will trap you by saying they have inside information and block you asap you fall into their tap & buy their bettig tips.

There are so many hidden spots betting that most gamblers don't follow up and i think table tennis is among the unpopular sports betting most gamblers don't place their predictions on but talking about table tennis matches being fixed, is not longer a news that some leagues  can permit some matches to be fixed because of the profits they stand to gain and if you should watch carefully you will understand that OP pointed out the leagues games are being fixed and for the group to be legitimate, i will not say that it is 100% free from scam but one thing you should know that most of the group is being created to promote something without you knowing the true purpose of the group.

Don't be fooled by that. First thing you need to ask is if it's legal. If you already understand that it is, then the next question is, are you still willing to continue knowing you can even go to jail for participating in it?

But the obvious reality is if you continue, you're probably not going to benefit from it anyway. They will just steal your money and keep fooling you until you realize you were stupid to believe them in the first place.

I'm interested in hearing from people who actually follow these leagues or have experience with table tennis betting.

Okay let's make it simple, they are giving you tips and if those tips are resulting in wins then that's already a good sign that the group could be legitimate. I haven't been in a group like that but I heard that if you want to stay you usually need to pay for membership or whatever payment they require so you can continue receiving the tips.

In that case I think you're the one in the best position to evaluate if it's really making you profitable or not, then you can decide if it's legit or just a scam.

First of all, check out the time of the his posting and compare it with actual event time, also check how many of his picks actually won.

Secondly follow the page closely and turn on notifications so that you'll know exactly whenever he posts on that page, there are chances he posts more often and deletes it when it ends in a loss. Don't believe what he tells you, most online tipsters are scam, his delayed posting might just be his pattern to look more convincing and if your discussion with him requires your paying upfront for fixed game, don't try it.

About the legal side, match-fixing in table tennis is illegal too, just like in other sports. The table tennis federation has rules against match-fixing, and leagues in Europe including Poland and Czech follow those rules as well. So if that group shares table tennis match info claimed to be fixed, it is likely breaking those rules. If it turns out to be legal, that would be strange since it normally works the other way.

It cannot be legal, by the name itself, game fixing is already something sports organizations would never want because it can destroy the reputation of the sport.

But I think those who are really fixing the games are the ones who would be in much bigger trouble. And honestly it's strange, if these people really know a match is fixed and the outcome is guaranteed, why would they still need to sell that information? Why not just bet on it themselves, quietly and with less risk.

But I think those who are really fixing the games are the ones who would be in much bigger trouble.

Yeah if they are found doing that, they can be suspended and worst case banned from the sport. But I think the punishment is still not severe enough since it keeps happening until now. Maybe adding jail time would make it more scary for them and they would think twice before doing it.

Most of these game fixing issues also seem to happen in smaller leagues, where players are not really making that much money. But since their games are still available in sportsbooks, some might take advantage of it. Imagine if they bet on different sportsbooks, that could be easy money for them.

And honestly it's strange, if these people really know a match is fixed and the outcome is guaranteed, why would they still need to sell that information? Why not just bet on it themselves, quietly and with less risk.

make sense, ( if we sees it that way, we will not gonna fall for this scam).
