I know both. I know MLB well. A couple of seasons ago, I was invited to play in a cricket pool; there was good money involved, so I tried to learn the basics. And honestly, there are some really strange things about how runs are scored, wickets, and the fact that batters can have 100 runs per game because of their run total. Things like that require a lot of research to understand, but it's not that difficult.

Baseball, on the other hand, is really very simple to compare: three outs per inning, there are nine innings, and when batting, there's a single, a double, or a triple, and the best play for a batter is a home run.

Otherwise, they're really nothing alike. They're completely different games, like comparing football to handball or water polo.

I think the only similarity is that it's a fairly individual sport, even though it's played as a team, since the individual talent of the batters and pitchers usually decides games. That's why the best pitchers and the best batters earn millions of dollars. And in that respect, I do think there's a huge difference. The question is, how much does the best cricketer in the world earn per year? I don't think it's anywhere near as much as the best in MLB, who earns around 70 million dollars a year.

Looking at your description, even those who watch cricket will not watch this game.

Anyway, commentator spoke English with Indian accent and it was hard to understand and hard to watch.

it's unfortunate for foreigners that you will often find Indian commentators even in English commentary. But, in any decent competition you will find commentators of different nationalities (likely English, Australian and South African — I like SA accent personally as they speak every word properly).

The question is, how much does the best cricketer in the world earn per year? I don't think it's anywhere near as much as the best in MLB, who earns around 70 million dollars a year.

Well, there is this Indian cricketer named Virat Kohli, he's regarded as one of best batters in the cricket currently and GuinnessWorldRecords ^[1] says he earned ~38M last year, and apparently this is not enough to be on the Forbes list of the world's 10 highest paid athletes ^[2] across different sports — so, it's not even about MLB really.

Honestly, I had enough for ~10 minutes and switched it. Really hard to understand what is going on. I think I need more exciting game and someone next to me who could explain what is going on, otherwise really hard to watch it

Yeah, if have no clue, like me currently, it's hard to watch. But I swear, it's fun, when you know what's going on. I know it form my own experience, I enjoyed watching the game, when I knew the rules. But, as with any complicated thing that you learn about, you forget it completely in 4-5 years if you have no practice at all during that time.

From a person who does not understand cricket, it is hard to watch because it takes a lot of time each time before ball is served. Maybe I got unlucky and watched really boring game, but after ball is thrown, it took minutes, maybe up to 5 until ball is thrown again. I cant explain it more correct, because I dont understand rules well, but pauses between actions in game are quite long. Like you wait for preparation, then there is a throw, maybe a hit by bat - that is like 10-15 seconds, then you wait minutes again for same action.

But, I don't particularly agree in this scenario, there was cricket hiatus for me of about a decade where I wasn't keeping up with cricket at all (neither watch, neither play); but when I got back into it — it was as if I had never forgotten about it in first place. Though, I must accept that my playing wasn't as good as before, but if I were to continue (which I didn't), rust too would have gotten removed I like to think.

Good for you! Apparently, my memory works differently. I forgot almost all rules of cricket, but what I do remember is that if you know the rules - it's a fantastic game to watch. Regarding baseball, it's also a great game to watch and the plus is that somehow we manage to keep the rules in mind all the time and thus enjoy watching the game.

Cricket is big in terms of finance but still it has fewer countries watch, I mean, Australia has dominated cricket for very long but if you ask a random Australian then they may not know about cricket entirely or just heard few names alone. But India is different, almost every child is growing up watching/playing cricket, irrespective of rural or urban local, they just play even with no proper bat and ball. And there is another theory is there, Englishmen formed the game called cricket entirely based on an Indian rural game that using two stick to hit each other, not sure how true it is but highly possible.

Cricket is the most fun because I understand the most about cricket, which is why it is very interesting to me. Because I don't like the rules that are there. It takes 2-3 hours to finish a 9 innings game. Honestly, I don't get the same joy in baseball as I do in cricket. Four, Six scores in cricket are very exciting. When a favorite team or player scores big, it is really a lot of fun. I rarely watch baseball and none of my friends like baseball, so I can't discuss this with them. And if you can't discuss the game with your friends, it can never be considered someone's favorite game.

Yes, this happens in cricket. There is a long wait between each ball or shot with the bat and every fan has to wait till that time. I watch very few cricket matches, maybe I watch 1 or 2 matches a year, but even then I don't watch more than 30 to 40 minutes of the match. Because watching this game requires a lot of patience, maybe I don't have that patience, which is why I can't watch it. If it didn't require such a long time and if I didn't have to wait so much, then maybe I would have liked to watch the game.

I'm not really a fan of these games, I have tried to watch them but I always feel sleepy at some point while watching them sports channels because they don't really have much thrill and action compared to soccer games. if I have to sit for more than 90 minutes to watch that has no sense of dynamic to it isn't really worth it to me. Soccer is quite different because of how the trajectory of the game changes at any point. And like I mentioned earlier these games too much time, baseball and crickets can take up to about 180 minutes to end.

I have no intention of belittling any game. It's has been a curiosity of mine. Although I've watched some youtube videos but didn't like those.

Btw I was watching a match , didn't even know if this one was live or not.

We all have our choices of the sports we prefer and like and can't even have a second thought of another one except the ones we prefer and I have never being a fan of cricket, I don't even have time to seat and watch any of the games and neither do I have any knowledge of their rules though in a way I like basketball ball because it's entertaining to me than crickets even though the rules can be similar to each other.

It sounds funny to me that I will be watching a cricket game because to me it seems as as they are just playing childishly and I can't waste my time watching them, basketball is very enjoyable than crickets, this is not a matter of belittling any sports because people make their choices and everyone won't like a particular game just as the way football is, there are lots of people that don't love football too so it's by choice and I prefer basketball than crickets.

Choosing one over the other all depends on the person. He might be familiar with one because he might have seem someone watching it and he felt some sought of spark in him and it grew into and interest. Or he might have been influenced by someone to watch it. Someone might find it fun to watch over the other. Still just humans at play here.

To be honest, it's cricket for me. I grew up watching it, so it feels natural, and you have choices whether you're in a hurry to watch a quick T20 match or really want to watch a full 5-day Test match haha.

I don't quite understand baseball, the innings thing still baffles me, and tbh I feel like you have to know so much in order to enjoy it. I can see what makes people like it, particularly in the US, it's sort of a part of the culture there.

Well, it's all about your childhood really. If you're new to the game, watch a proper T20 match, it is far easier to get into than Test cricket.

Baseball and cricket are 19th-century games. I associate them with good old Victorian England. 🙋

I also constantly confuse cricket and croquet. Alice played croquet in "Alice in Wonderland." Instead of mallets, the characters used flamingos. They held them by their feet. How imaginative! When I hear the word "cricket," I always imagine what it would be like to hold a flamingo in my hand (instead of a mallet). I think I'd be uncomfortable playing with a bird... 🤔 But then again, cricket and croquet are different games.

Since baseball and cricket were invented in the 19th century, in the 21st century they seem very slow and stagnant. We're used to a completely different speed! Incidentally, from a sports betting perspective, this is more of an advantage than a disadvantage. The pauses between pitches and tosses are essentially the perfect opportunity to place a bet and win.  However, to take advantage of these opportunities, you need to have a good understanding of the specifics of these sports. Unfortunately, I can't boast of a deep knowledge of these sports. 🏌️

Actually, I have been interested in cricket since childhood and now, even though I have entered the working life, I enjoy playing cricket sometimes by going to the playground. I still have a lot of interest in cricket from that soft corner.
However, when it comes to gambling, I mainly prefer cricket between baseball and cricket. Because I have the ability to analyze cricket and using that ability, I do not make decisions on my own. I basically bet 75% of my weekly bets on cricket.

Comparing baseball and cricket, 90% of gamblers would support cricket. And externally, I also like it. However, the main reason behind this is that baseball is hardly played in my state. Because I have not been very involved with this game since childhood. But after revealing myself in the world of gambling, I have been gradually researching baseball. Anyway, in the betting field, all gamblers spend money on their preferences and skilled teams. But I think it would be even more exciting if it were connected with football. Because football is more popular than cricket.

I understand a thing or two about Baseball, but you see that cricket? I don't think that I will ever understand it, such game has something to do with location because I can't ask an Indian guy about cricket and not get some valid response back, every Indians loves cricket, and since cricket isn't a thing in my country, no one that I know is a fan of cricket, and for baseball it's something I watched and learn on the screen myself but still not completely figured it all out.

If one grew up around particular thing since one was little, it becomes a part of oneself than a conscious effort. As a generic example, you don't have to memorize your native language, it flows spontaneously; it's same thing with cricket for me.

I have mentioned earlier, cricket has multiple formats, and out of the 3 recognized by cricket's governing body ICC — T20 the lowest overs format does go for around 3 hours but other two which are ODI and Test go for far more, without diving deep.
