Betting changing from entertainment to terrible risk taking. I still wonder what makes friends do bets that are have higher risk and low reward. I don't just know. Maybe they want to prove one thing or the other. Neglecting the fact that something horrible might go wrong along the line. Even though he could do it, doesn't mean he should. Someone can be carrying a particular weight frequently and just one day he might carry it wrongly and might end up in the hospital. Not saying they are not professionals. But we should do things rightly. Betting shouldn't always be about money.

Of course, it's terrible, and I wish such situations never happened, but they will continue because those who aren't smart enough to consider the life-threatening risks of such bets aren't very smart—I'm talking about these friends. Why didn't any of them try to stop this guy or think about his health? We need to be more attentive to such things, and frankly, I hate these kinds of arguments when someone wants to move something heavy or do something out of the ordinary for money. I remember when I was younger, I also watched guys arguing, coming up with crazy arguments, but I was raised in a good family and never participated in such things, and I don't plan to ever participate in such things.

This is not the first time Nigerian used cement for betting purpose. I remember years ago, there was someone who win a few hundreds bucks by carrying a cement with his teeth. So this is just more brutal than that.

Sad dude is just throwing away his life just for a few bucks. Damn! he lost his logic!

I think people are not so smart overall, not just because of this death but also because of many other stupid deaths like people who even pay 50.000 dollars to stay in turn in mount Everest and many of them die because of such stupiditiy as there is not enough oxygen for all the people there. They call it natural selection but I call it the most stupid way to die for a person. As for this bet here I find it stupid enough the same as the Everest ones, a death in vain.

In this story a person who has broken his spinal cord after lifting 4 bags of cement is not the only stupid one. Everyone who was present there are stupid. Because they let this situation and bet to happen. There is one idiot who had offered such bet, there is another idiot who had accepted it. But why the rest stood and did nothing? Why not tell that is dangerous and not worth trying? Why not stop when several bag were put on head and they saw it was already a lot for him. And most important, why not use brain and figure out that neck is never ready to hold 200kg of weight. Brainless people.

Yeah! Carrying cement with teeth is a popular thing some guys do in Nigeria but that's done using a bag of cement and not the case or loading it on your head and trying to pile up four bags of cement. That's suicidal to start with. What point is he trying to prove? That he's strong or stupid?

Unfortunately, some person will have to learn some lessons the hard way and now his carelessness has resulted in his death, he has succeed in getting all the hype he hoped on getting and that serves him well.

This is very sad and regrettable, because the deceased wasn't thinking at all before he accepted such a bet. This is as a result of underrating the ripple effect of the weight and how his body system will react. I have experience a betting like this that later turned out ugly, because the other person died as a result of the bet, which was swimming.

They bet that Mr A cannot swim and cross a river in my village and come back, so once the Mr A went out for the task, that was his end because he successfully swim and cross but coming back was where he sank without coming back again alive, it was after a day before his body was found, so sometimes people misjudged a situation and they went as far as betting on them without thinking deep, but I really hope that bettors will learn from these, in other to avoid such things happening again in the future.

Probably the price wasn't every worth-it because these kinds of bets are probably just exchanges of jokes, or maybe he was just teasing to do it, and then they just added the money, which is what actually made him do it. It might just be a simple story, but it was very sad to hear it because, for sure, the main reason was money, and if it was for his family, then I might probably do the same thing because If I'm in need of money, I would do everything just to earn and provide for my family.

I cannot think directly of a lesson to this one because it might be because of money need or for his family so I wouldn't blame anyone about doing the hardwork even though it was basically gambling it, I mean it just hard to foreseen this kind of event because it was an accident for sure even his friends is just making the joke or the bet wasn't expecting or intentionally doing it for him to die but only for fun.

A few years ago, I was managing a building site. A labourer didn't come early, and we needed to start work since the building engineer was already around. I had no choice but to volunteer to carry a 50kg bag of cement. Immediately, it landed on my head, and I began to feel a sharp pain in my spine. I dropped it immediately and never tried it again. When I saw the video of this dude carrying four bags of cement, I began to wonder what he was thinking. Even those who were around and aided this suicidal act are foolish.

Anyway, he apparently lost the bet. He failed to carry the 4 sacks. The news didn't specify how much was on the line or how much he'd win if he's successful in the challenge, but he's betting his life for it. It's ridiculous! It's sad!

What's unfortunate is that this kind of challenge isn't new to me. I don't know if it's also like this in other countries, but boys and young men here in my country have also this kind of fun, even to the point that petty crimes are involved.

I and my friends once chipped in money for a prize to whoever takes the challenge of climbing the electric post to get a popped balloon stuck in the cables. One took it and won. Nobody was hurt.
