What is happening in Philippines is quit different from what I know about my country. I think I have contributed to a thread like this lately.

If the government of Philippines want gambling addiction to reduce then they should provide jobs for their people. IMO, there is relationship between gambling and unemployment. Most people that gamble don't go into it as a way of relieving stress or for fun, no. They gamble with the believe to make additional money or resources but that is erroneous way of thinking. They feel they can make profit in gambling and gradually they start chasing back losses and that is how addiction starts. So amongst other reasons people gamble, unemployment is a strong influence. At least, some gamblers I know who engage in it from time to time, they affirm that if they were earning some reasonable amount of money then they won't have to look in the area of gambling for additional money because they know that overall, they are losing.

The tax law in my country is still liberal and no restrictions on gambling ads. People gamble by choice even with the gambling ads.

It is simple therefore. No need chasing shadow by trying to stop gambling ads through senate legislation. If the youth in the Philippines have better jobs to do, it will help to reduce the addiction that government is trying to stop.

I have read this news on Google News
I'm surprised by the reason why advertising should be banned but i think it's consistent with what the government has decided
that is, making an all-out fight against gambling

do i approve? no a government should not meddle in people's free time.

This is just something to make people say the Senate is doing something. But the truth behind all of this is that they are backing all these local gambling sites like Playtime, BingoPlus, and Bet88. They are all legalized by the government because they can pay whatever the government wants.

Now, they will ban gambling advertisements from those who cannot pay their dues. I just recently watched a movie in the cinema, and I was super early, so I saw the ads before the movie started. Do you know that 2 gambling ads will come out even if it's a show that is legal for kids?
This is all just sweet words that don't have anything real to them. If you are a Filipino, you know what I mean.

It seems it will. I've seen plenties of Filipino supported this draft, and it seems like the regulation will be much more stricted there. The main concern is that it seems gambling getting normalized in PH for minors. So they create this draft to ensure their future generation won't be addicted.
But the access to the gambling sites needs to be restricted only for adults. However, this is the biggest obstacle because minors these days aware how to bypass the censorship by the government to the gambling site. At least, they're not completely banning it, and it's still acceptable.

I think a bill is going to be a huge help, even though for sure it won't fix it completely, but there is for sure a huge percentage drop in gamblers if something about banning gambling advertisements was passed as a billed, because advertisement actually do a huge job in inviting people into gambling, I mean gambling recently got popular because of advertisement in the Philippines it was because there are a lot of influencers and even famous celebrities actually promoting it, also we cannot dinied that there are a lot of poor people where they want to find a shortcut on hardship. So it wasn't surprising if they are easily get pursued by the gambling advertisements.

There is a lot of corruption going on here in the Philippines. The way I see it, this might never go through for sure, since everything is being run by money these days. Gambling platforms just have an unlimited amount of funds when it comes to their marketing, in my experience, so for sure it's easy to ask anyone to support them because it is a huge business.

While the Philippines government are striving to put a stop to all gambling ads, and platform, not everyone is comfortable with it, maybe they have seen addicted gamblers, and the harvoc gambling is causing to them, and thereby taking the decision to end gambling in Philippines. The truth is that, even though gambling has influenced the lives of many negativity, their are still those who are responsible gamblers, instead it is better for the Philippines government to regulate gambling instead of ending it entirely. More also the rate of gambling can be influenced by leadership, which means if the economy is actually okay, the rate of gambling will actually reduce

What I understood after reading the article is that Escudero is not just talking about banning advertising but also about banning influencer promotion and various forms of gambling marketing. The most important thing is that the current Ad Standards Council rules are voluntary, so making them enforceable by law could be a big change.  Although they have not yet confirmed whether the bill has been passed or not, I think the real test will be after the bill is passed. However banning advertising will not keep people away from gambling, because online platforms are now very easily available. Rather I think it is more important to make people aware of other practical aspects.

Well, if the law is finally passed and being maintained even when new leaders enter power, that can produce good result on the long run because it is going to prevent gambling exposure to other newbie (young ones) who might have gotten into gambling if such law had not exited. Although, I don't think the outcome of this ads ban might show immediate effect because of the large number of players who are already addicted but it can help prevent other non gamblers from joining the party. Apart from this measure that they are considering to take, they should also come up with other method to help those players that are already suffering from gambling problems.

I learnt that the rate of gambling addiction is very high in that country so their government is doing everything possible to reduce it, we can't tell if it would work, if they don't implement if fully and take it seriously. Although it would favour the younger generations in that country since the government has banned things that could drag them to gambling more in future.
I think I'll have to follow up this issue to know if it would actually work or end up being another failed attempt to reduce gambling addiction, i hope it works.

A country doesn’t want its population to be gambling addicts, I believe ads pull alot of new people into gambling and this measure that is taken by the phillipines government is going to not stop but decrease the number of new people starting gambling. People that are already addicts cant leave gambling but it can be avoided overall by stopping advertisement. If they are doing it to stop people from gambling then only this is not going to be enough…

Even if the goal is to reduce exposure to gambling and/or addiction, I don't think banning advertisements will prevent someone from gambling or "cure" someone who is already addicted. What I find problematic is that children watch the games and don't yet understand the impact this habit can have on their lives, because the advertisements only show the positive side of gambling, the idea that it's easy to win, and this will be ingrained in their minds, which could lead to problems when they become adults. Perhaps for them the measure will be beneficial.

The consequences of gambling addiction in the Philippines have increased to a great extent, so a proposal has been introduced to reduce the amount of addiction, but if it is implemented, I don't really know whether the government will be successful in this. I think it is undoubtedly a good initiative for the Philippines so that the amount of addiction decreases day by day, people can return to normal life and the new generation can protect themselves from gambling addiction.

People are much better off, they are less likely to progress well. The government will take specific steps to control it. There is no guarantee that the general public will be completely free from gambling addiction. No matter how strict the government is with gambling, the general public will find alternatives, but a person will easily be tested by the consequences of gambling.

I don't think this ban on gambling will have a big impact on the gambling of gamblers in the Philippines. Yes, I am speaking from the experience of my country. Gambling has been completely banned in my country for quite some time now, but the gamblers I know around me are still gambling freely. Since the law was passed, I have not seen a single person in my country being punished for gambling, so it does not mean that everyone in my country has stopped gambling. Rather, the number of gamblers in my country, that is, the number of gamblers, is the same as before. It is just that the law has been passed, but we have not seen proper implementation of the law. Perhaps the same will happen in the Philippines.

Banning gambling adverts in a country where gambling is legal shows that it is a drastic action that the government had to take to reduce gambling addiction because that must be what it is all about, I believe that they must have seen the negative effects of the gambling ads in their citizens especially the younger generation that are drawn to social media and want to belong. The move cannot totally eradicate addiction in their country but it is a way to go if they feel that it is a solution to help future addicts who would be drawn to gambling through adverts. Problem in many developing countries is implementing a law is one thing and following up to make sure that it is obeyed is another thing entirely, like you said we will wait and see if the total ban will be followed in their country.

It has not been implemented yet but it will probably be implemented soon. The main objective here is to reduce gambling addiction. However, they have delayed doing this because online gambling has now spread worldwide in such a way that to get addicted to online gambling or to get acquainted with online gambling, one no longer needs any advertisements. One can learn about it from his friends or relatives. And those who are already addicted to gambling or know about gambling and gamble cannot stop gambling. Therefore, to reduce gambling addiction, setting limits on gambling and enacting a law for those who cross the limit could be an important step.

The bill to ban gambling advertisements there hasn’t been passed yet, but restrictions are already in place meaning the government has already limited gambling promotions on several social media platforms. In other words, the ban is already in effect, though not yet comprehensive, as the bill is still in the approval process.
In my opinion, this isn’t a matter of whether it’s too late or not, but if it were expedited, that would be better. I’m truly amazed by this country because they want their people to be somewhat free from the financial problems caused by gambling while also safeguarding the future of their younger generation.

A Senate bill wants a nationwide ban on online gambling ads across all media platforms, so that probably means TV, social media and other online platforms.

So what's really happening in the Philippines now? They make the problem worse first before making this kind of measure. I wonder if it's just for show because it's not really preventing the problem, it's more like showing that they are doing their job to protect people even though the damage has already been done.

And to think this is still just a bill. If there are powerful people supporting big casino operators, then maybe it will not be that easy to pass.

So do you think this will actually pass or is it already too late?

You can also share what is happening in your country if you have a similar situation.
It may not be possible to stop gambling advertisements from various social media across the country, but if this bill is passed in the Philippines, I think gambling advertisements can be banned from their online media in the Philippines. If they can stop gambling advertisements from their country from being given on various social media, I think it will be a positive aspect for them because people are more attracted to gambling after seeing gambling advertisements on various social media, and if these gambling advertisements are stopped, the amount of gambling in their country will decrease a lot, and especially after a few years, they may understand the results very well. Although they may not understand the results very well now, they may understand later because there have been a lot of gamblers in the country, but later people will not be attracted anymore, especially boys and girls, so at some point we will be able to see the positive aspects.

One major important aspect of this step taken by the Philippines government is that they’ll be protecting the young ones and the minors from getting exposed to gambling early via the constant online gambling ads everywhere. This happens to be the easiest way the idea of gambling crawls into the mind of many people, and since most of these ads are not censored, they they can easily crawl into the minds of the younger ones which may end up being disastrous to them.

You're right, and I have also experienced that before. This made me believe that no matter what the government do to stop gambling in a country it won't work, it can only work for those law abiding citizens while those that does not want to be under the spare of the government will do however they like. This online gambling has spoiled a lot of things, sometimes the government will set rules about gambling but it won't work because they can't control online gamblers, I remember those days when offline gamble was the only means, when the government set rules about gambling everyone will stick to it as they will be sending people to visit all the whole gambling shop to see if they are doing what they ask them to do. But now everyone have access to online gamble.

No matter how addicted or bad you think the situation is currently, it can be worked on. They just need to be decisive with the relevant actions. The most important thing is that they are doing something about the well-being of their citizens.
I personally their actions are right and is still relevant because, there are still rising generation and if they don't limit the rate at which these young people are being exposed to gambling, they might grow up with a more addictive approach to gambling if these things are not put in place.
What I may not like with rhus new development with India ban of casinos is that, there is no exception to the ones that comply with local law, the government is more focused on the bad aspects of gambling which is the possibility of addiction and the current case of concentration to the India government.

Just as you said, regulations need to carry out survey to know the extent thay the effect of gambling addiction have gone on the people, and hiw best to protect them from addiction, but when it becomes a total ban, they are sending signals to players to start another wave of gambling with privacy and ready to face any challenge along line.

It was only a proposal and the bill has not yet been signed into law, so gambling advertisements can still be seen across different media platforms. this topic has gained a lot of attention because many people out there, including minors, are getting involved in gambling especially now that online gambling is easily accessible as long as they have the necessary devices needed. I cant say that its already too late, but there are still many factors that need to be considered before such any restrictions can be implemented. Fyi, gambling and online casinos are legal in the Philippines but it is important to verify whether the platform is properly licensed by PAGCOR...Additionally, gambling advertisements generally include reminders to “gamble responsibly" So people should know their limits and to think twice before started to play.
