So do you think this will actually pass or is it already too late?

I wonder what took these people too long to act on rampant gambling ads on social media.  As far as I remember, gambling ads have been on social media for so long, and these ads have been influencing people to engage in gambling irresponsibly since most of these ads show a scenario of a gambler winning a huge amount of money.

Late is better than never, at least this time, if the bill is approved, citizens in the Philippines will at least have some protection by not seeing gambling ads anymore when they are browsing their social media.

You can also share what is happening in your country if you have a similar situation.

I believe we are in the same country so I  think there isno need to share what is happening in our country because we already know the events here.

A Senate bill wants a nationwide ban on online gambling ads across all media platforms, so that probably means TV, social media and other online platforms.

So what's really happening in the Philippines now? They make the problem worse first before making this kind of measure. I wonder if it's just for show because it's not really preventing the problem, it's more like showing that they are doing their job to protect people even though the damage has already been done.

And to think this is still just a bill. If there are powerful people supporting big casino operators, then maybe it will not be that easy to pass.

So do you think this will actually pass or is it already too late?

You can also share what is happening in your country if you have a similar situation.
Well, in the end what I think will eventually happen is that casino and gambling operators will look for very clever means to still go on and advertise their businesses.
I do not blame the government they are try to curb gambling addiction but they are yet to show any real commitment to it.
Banning gambling will not do much compared to spending more money on gambling addiction recovery programs, giving small grants to NGOs, CSO, and others to run campaigns to help those addicted. The UK government is already doing it, they too can.

Maybe they are trying to stop gambling addiction, but entirely eliminating gambling is not going to be easy ,which I think it's not really going to be possible, social media is a broad community,so putting a stop to advert won't make some persons stop ,they will always look for a way out to gamble ,so I don't see banning gambling ads as the best way to reduce it , gambling addiction is very dangerous especially to ones mental health, but most times I ask myself will there be an end to this gambling addiction.
From the news, they are not trying to stop gambling completely, at least not from the bill which was proposed and submitted for reading. What they are just focused on is to eliminate anything that has to do with gambling ads, which could be to reduce how much people are exposed to gambling, as for those who are addicted to gambling this won’t help them much as they still have access to their favourite casino they use for gambling.
Yeah, this is their goal, which I agree with, especially right now that there are already a lot of illegal gambling sites and illegal promotions, especially on Facebook.
Or some are advertising illegal gambling platforms = which is alarming. But yeah, I agree about no gambling ads for everyone, no matter how legit the gambling platform is; this way, fewer gambling addictions will be introduced.

It's not going to prevent people from looking for gambling and promoting it. Only education can avoid the problem. The government isn't concerned about the solution for gambling addiction, rather they are concerned about their personal image towards the public.

If they were concerned about the population for real, they would launch their own advertisement campaigns teaching people about the dangers and risks of gambling, how the outcomes are selected and why it's not possible to turn gambling into a money making method.

Nobody cares about giving accurate information on gambling matters. People just want to promote it for financial gains or to blame it for their own dumb choices.

For a country as small as the Philippines, ideally gambling is more friendly there, I mean legalized by the way the government plays a role in controlling it. But I understand that maybe because of the low income level and the government's awareness of the interests of the people is not so supportive, especially to provide more decent jobs, the unemployment rate is increasing, crime is getting massive and gambling is a place of escape. Almost all developing countries are like that.

In most countries, laws of this type have a political justification; that is, the laws exist only as a legal framework, and their application is generally far removed from reality. However, in my country, these regulations are clearly defined and work when appropriate, since gambling is prohibited in some places and not in others. (primarily offline)

Online, there is no regulation other than reporting winnings and paying taxes. Advertising for casinos and betting sites is prohibited on broadcast television, but in the world we live in, all streaming is permitted, and the sheer number of online casinos is absolutely absurd.

I think the real issue here isn't whether gambling should be completely banned, but how it's regulated. Instead of the government directly operating gambling establishments, it would be more appropriate for them to be in a position to strictly oversee the sector and set the rules. Licensing, taxation, age limits, and advertising could all be under state control. Particularly stricter control could be applied to advertising.

The chances of this bill passing is very slim, since even the country is generating revenue from the operations of this casino, and am sure that some big dogs in the Philippines political system will be benefiting massively from this revenue.. Okay let even assume that it is passed what difference will it make since it wouldn't even solve the problem that the government themselves used their hands to create when they legalized gambling and encourage them to freely operate..Well it could maybe reduce people's exposure to gambling ads which is normally displayed on the street and in the different apps in their mobile phone, but it cannot cure those that are already addicted..Some folks have gotten so deep and buried in gambling that they don't even need ads before they can gamble, since they are already have gambling accounts and are very much already conversant with the gambling apps and websites..The government has to put in more efforts and have measures in place to help those that are already addicted. ..

These are just adverts on bill boards, television and other means of adverts forgetting that Humana are very go at advertising, what about online gambling, the adverts will still continue there and addiction which they are trying to reduce or prevent will continue from there, yes their reason for banning it is good but how well will put help reduce addiction .

To me I do not see it as something too late because even though there are others who already fallen a victim of gambling addiction, the prevention could help those who are yet to start gambling or having interest to start gambling. It is not actually that easy to entirely eliminate gambling adverts across all the social media platforms, and even though there is a restriction there could be some people who are accessing the internet or gambling site with VPN which could allow them to have full access to everything on the internet.

No system can be 100% effective no matter how well it's placed and planned, there will always be a loophole which the smart ones will exploit, but it will just limit how much free access the average person can have and view those gambling-related content, even with the use of VPN. Some social media won't still display the ads to them since their country have been captured during time of registration, but some people can register accounts using outside location.

My personal prediction on this: the decrease of gaming addiction will be minimal in the short term there in the Philippines, as people who are already addicted to gambling will continue to gamble away their money.
Casinos will continue to advertise on social media, where there are less restrictions and it is harder to moderate content for teens ad children.

Actually, if you take a look on Instagram, you will see a lot of accounts giving visibility to casinos like Rainbet. It seems Rainbet has heavily invested in that kind of tactic.

GAMBLING ADS SHOULD BAN 100% in all platforms and in all places.
Theres big problem in the Phillines becuase of online gambling.

In gambling, its for fun and entertainment but we have online gambling now that expose every age in the community.
With the life in PH gambling is very dangerous as many people earn small amount and do gamble as they can deposit a minimum of 20 pesos in most platform that 1/3 USD.
Hoping to get their money bigger instead of buying food.

If the PH government can't do it because billions of corruption money are from gambling, they should have a minimum deposit  to stop some people who cant afford.
Lets say a minimum of 100 USD (6000 pesos) or much better we go 10,000 pesos for the minimum deposit.

ang AGAIN, NO ADS anywhere!

You are right, there is a law that legalizing gambling here in the Philippines and in fact it is one of the source of revenue that the government rely on as its income is a substantial amount. But recently with the influx of online gambling wherein ordinary citizens could gamble even with a small capital, that's the beginning of the problem as more people are addicted to it and this gambling companies doesn't target the rich only, the poor people are the ones badly affected by this gambling addiction that is why the government had to take action. For me banning ads is not enough but i do appreciate it as the government have acknowledge that there is this problem that affected its citizens.

Yes, its not banned but rather regulated. It is just that the government wanted that other platforms or companies should really that register themselves and being regulated on which of course they would really be taxed on that case rather than on running without any license or permission on which its normal for the government to really that impose sanctions or banning out of these companies. Although it would be understandable on why they are trying out to go underground just because taxes on PH are ridiculously high but well this isnt something that a solid reason to evade tax considering up these businesses are highly profitable. So if there's a regulation then it is just that right that these companies should be following it but its not shocking that there are still that those who do able to bypass regulation.

Are ads so effective? If government ban snacks and fastfood ads, because they make people fat, do you think people would stop buying them? Gambling has been popular in Philippines for centuries. I dont think if they bad ads today, it will change anything. Gambling is too deep into citizen life already. I think they must think about different solution. What you have offered might work, but it contradicts that gambling is for everyone, not for wealthy only. I am afraid that people would borrow money to get that minimum deposit, and it would make situation even worse.

I'm sure its still effective. If you look at it this way, companies would not keep paying for advertisements if ads were not helping them get more customers. So removing or limiting those ads should still make some difference.

The thing is, gambling addiction is already a problem in the Philippines, so this kind of action will not completely solve it anymore. But at least it can help minimize the problem and reduce the number of new people being attracted to gambling.

For me, this kind of law is already late. Stronger controls should have been in place from the beginning, before the problem reached this level.

I think it's for the greater good, if anyone is running a casino in that country they should move elsewhere, addiction is always on different levels, when you said you've seen enough try moving into another country you will see more, I  believe that's the case in the Philippines, their senator is pushing for a nationwide ban to curb addiction.

This means that the case of addiction in the country is gigantic,  gambling addiction is going on in my country too but not to the extent where people will be calling the leaders to intervene, even while some lives were destroyed no one called out to the leaders for rescue, like I've said there is level to every addictions and it's plainly bad in some countries Vs other countries.

To be honest, this won’t be easy and won’t go as expected, because there are so many loopholes that can be exploited to return to gambling.
In fact, gambling in the Philippines has drawn a large portion of the population into it, there are various reasons why they do it, but the main one is the desire to make easy money, a flawed mindset instilled from the very start of their gambling journey. The country’s economy has been significantly impacted by gambling, and of course, where there is poverty, there will be a rise in crime. When people don’t have money to gamble and don’t have jobs to earn money, many of them turn to a life of crime, such as robbery, pickpocketing and various other crimes. All of this is done to get money, not just to survive, but also to gamble.

Even in countries where there are job opportunities, you’ll still most likely find a high rate of gambling addiction, it’s not even about lack of jobs any more it’s more of a mindset, because many people who end up getting addicted to gambling are not really sorting for a major source of income but rather a way to make some extra money, maybe because their income isn’t just enough to keep up with their lifestyle, so they’re looking for another way out of the insufficiency. So it’s not even about job, but about the gambler’s mindset.
