Bitdefender products prevented users from downloading these malicious files and deleted them. It is an advertisement for their products.
Bitdefender researchers have already observed malicious files disguised as The Odyssey (2026) circulating online. According to internal insights, Bitdefender security solutions prevented users from downloading and executing malicious files.
Several lure filenames were observed, including:
the odyssey 2160phd (2026) engsubs eztv.exe
the odyssey 2026 1080p h264-djt.exe
the odyssey 2026 1080p webrip-lama.exe
download files are in .exe format, not the common video formats. exe files should not be downloaded from unknown sources.
Wouldn’t anyone who sees that the file ends in .exe just avoid opening it? But as the article explains, The trick is that hackers can set the .exe file’s icon to look exactly like the VLC media player icon or another media player. This can make you think that the file you downloaded is the movie you wanted.

You can right-click the file and select Properties to check whether it’s an .exe file or a normal MP4 media file, because you can’t really tell by looking at it. That’s where the trick comes in.
There are so many pirated movies and websites promoting them and some of these sites may be made to infect your device, either through malware or malicious pop-up ads.
That’s why using a good antivirus is important. It’s also much safer to watch movies through official, legitimate platforms and pay for a subscription rather than risk getting hacked.
