There is a lot of information about Bitcoin, and I think this can make it difficult for beginners to know what they should learn first. If you had to choose only three lessons for someone who is completely new to Bitcoin what would you choose?
I am especially interested in answers based on real experience rather than just general advice. What did you understood when you first started?

1. How to earn it. 2. How to store it. 3. How to spend it.
However, it is not ideal to limit the scope of learning, especially when dealing with absolute beginners. You cannot generalize a person's background knowledge; there is a difference between having no knowledge at all and having misconceptions. I usually tailor my approach based on the context in which the person initiates the conversation about Bitcoin.

The first thing in your list needs to be changed a little bit. In my opinion, rather than "How to earn bitcoin", you can change it to "How to get bitcoin". Get bitcoin has a wider meaning than earn bitcoin because getting bitcoin includes earning bitcoin. People can get bitcoin by buying bitcoin with their money, mining bitcoin and get it from block rewards and mining fees, as well as can get bitcoin from working and receiving bitcoin as payment or salary. Earning bitcoin in my opinion is only related to working for bitcoin and it is too too wide. [General] How to earn bitcoins.Cryptocurrency job list.

1. It isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. If you came for the money, be patient because it takes time, hodl, and be aware it isn't smooth-sailing going to the destination.
2. It's supposed to provide you freedom; use it accordingly. Take note that freedom here isn't freedom from working hard, poverty, government neglect, inequality, and the like. It's freedom from monetary debasement, bank control, and government monetary tyranny. Owning Bitcoin doesn't mean you won't have to flip burgers anymore.
3. It comes with heavy responsibilities, quite a long list of dos and don'ts, and things to learn and unlearn.

People are already giving you good advice but these are stuff you could have already found with a quick search. Something you'll not find is this: after you've stepped into the Bitcoin World, you'll notice a lot of users are talking about this wondering alternative cryptocurrency that is "better" than bitcoin and will surpass it or some even go as far as saying it will "replace" it. They'll talk about how it is better (eg. have faster confirmation, bigger blocks, blah blah) ... but in time you'll realize (sometimes after having lost a lot of money) that they were advertising shitcoins. Just stay away until you have gained enough experience...

They create their projects that are low quality, have low values or zero values but in order to make noise, catch attention of the crowd and scam people easily and massively, they shill their projects as "Bitcoin killers", "Better than Bitcoin", "Replace Bitcoin". There are many examples of such scam projects with Bitcoin fork names or whatever names while their quality are super low, zero and their endings are mostly the same: scam exit, abandoned, died. To newcomers: make sure when you buy bitcoin you are buying bitcoin! How Many Bitcoin Forks Are There? You will be surprised!!!Has Bitcoin.com stopped presenting Bitcoin Cash as the real Bitcoin?

If I had to choose only three things, I'd foucs on:
i. wallet security ii. understading private keys/seed phrases iii. and learning how transactions and network fees work.
security is probably the most important because losing a seed phrase can mean losing access permanently.

The answer will depend on why you want to learn about Bitcoin. Bitcoin could be used for diverse things, so your goal will determine which area will suit you. Anyway, you should learn what Bitcoin is, and the whitepaper will be good material to read. How Bitcoin works would be the next step, which includes learning about wallets and how to secure them. Thirdly, you would have to practice buying Bitcoin in small amounts.

You have already gotten a good answers from the replies above..but i want you to know that your personal research will be important for you... but they're many more things a beginner can learn, especially the one's who have the passion in Bitcoin, so in addition to what other people said, I think a beginner should learn the following 1. A beginner should learn about decentralisation 2. A beginner should also learn about bitcoin wallets 3. A beginner should also learn about bitcoin Transactions

Good for you OP that with just a few posts you have gotten a good start about Bitcoin, the basics about Bitcoin wallet and how to secure your Bitcoin, have in mind that you cannot learn and understand everything about Bitcoin market and network in one day, as you're learning and researching your knowledge would be increasing gradually.
To add to what you've been told I will share three important lessons that I learnt about Bitcoin when I joined as a newbie in this forum: not your keys, not your coins keep your Bitcoin in none custodial wallets for large amount of Bitcoin priotize hardware wallets over hot wallets DYOR as I welcome you to the forum.

I will start with Testnet, Bitcoin Testnet itself. Play with it, send and receive between friends to know how it works.
Then how to keep private keys and recovery seeds safe. Airgapped, open source, passphrase, like some are recommending.
Then prepare for safety buying guides. Safest Centralised exchanges, dexs, and peer to peer.

Just stay away until you have gained enough experience... I really appreciate everything you said, and that is exactly what is happening. A new Bitcoin user need to be aware of this, so many of them may not even realize or get to know that people are being paid in most cases to promote shitcoin, and of which they only get to cajole them with enticing words that seems realistic, your advice is indeed a nice one as most new users of Bitcoin may be struggling to differentiate Bitcoin from other coins, some of us ( die hard Bitcoin enthusiasts ) today learnt this the hard way after some money has already been lost just as you said.

Some poeple come into Bitcoin with different motives, and/or from different stand point, meaning, they may be new to Bitcoin but have some underground knowledge while some Totally come with zero knowledge. So, I guess, most importantly, for Someone who wants to buy Bitcoin Bitcoin and HODL, then I would advise.. 1) know where and how to buy 2) know the kind and importance of wallet and privacy 3) know the volatility of Bitcoin and the importance of starting small (buying in small amounts first). When we get into the market, there are so many things we can learn, and it's better we learn them gradually, and not when we have lost so many things. We just have to be careful and also always ask questions.

Three points may not be enough to cover everything for a beginner, but assuming the basics are already understood, here are three points based on my experience: 1. Be realistic, no matter how profitable Bitcoin is in the long run, you must always consider every cent you invest. 2. Do not stop or become complacent with the amount of Bitcoin you already own, remain hungry to accumulate more. That said, this does not mean risking everything you have to the point where you can no longer sustain yourself. 3. Refer back to point number 1.

The most important things a beginner should know as the basics of Bitcoin are: - wallet and wallet security: non-custodial wallets and open source.
- Understanding the volatility of Bitcoin allows people to yield good value from it.
- A long-term mindset and awareness of scams are essential;
it is very common for many beginners who don't understand Bitcoin to see it as an asset to invest in to get rich quickly. They are easily convinced that Bitcoin can be earned for free through giveaways and other schemes. With this basic knowledge of Bitcoin, it is possible for a beginner to succeed in the Bitcoin space.

1. How to earn it.
I don't think how to earn Bitcoin is the best way to explain how someone can invest in Bitcoin. I would rather say how to purchase Bitcoin, because many people still don't know the right ways to buy and safely hold it. Speaking of earning,If you want to avoid buying Bitcoin directly, you can also earn it by offering services and asking to be paid in Bitcoin. You could even run a shop where customers can pay with Bitcoin as an alternative payment method. For someone who wants to learn about Bitcoin, there are three important things I would mention how to buy Bitcoin, how to secure it and most importantly, “don't trust, verify"It might sound like a simple statement, but "don't trust, verify" has saved me many times from making mistakes with my Bitcoin investments. Sometimes, the small things we overlook such as verifying addresses, checking transactions and understanding how Bitcoin works, are what make the biggest difference in protecting our investments.

For me, the three things I would teach any new Bitcoin user are... which I believe every investor who adheres to these will be successful and profitable in their investment.
To do more research even after knowing the basics, because failure to do proper research before making decisions can lead them to things that could ruin their plans such as panic selling, fall for scams etc.
Invest only an amount they can comfortably afford to lose, so that they won't be surprised if the market doesn't go as they expected.
Always exercise patience because that's one of the keys to be successful and can stay invested for the long term.
