Yes. When I was still in school, my hostel mates and I can play cheese during the day and overnight. If not because of the chess, we would have been sleeping during the night. Although, it did not affect our school life and we do not use money to gamble, but we are just playing it for fun. It is very possible that if we use money to gamble with it, we might start spending more time on it.

I totally agree with you, Chess game is very much different from other games and in Chess it is mostly played by two persons and in order for someone to win they have to be very fast in thinking and in reasoning more like predicting what will happen before any move and sometimes you need to try and read the thoughts of your opponent. In Chess you don't look at statistics and some others features and I guess it is because of the act of deep thinking that has made people not to play it like other games.

The answer is quite obvious. Chess is a critical and intellectual game. I used to play chess, but I often found it difficult to beat some of my opponents. As you already mentioned, chess requires a lot of critical thinking, and you have to think both smartly and quickly. When you compare chess with regular gambling, the difference is clear. Regular gambling requires little to no thinking. You mainly need your money and your time, while the algorithm does most of the work for you. In the end, you are simply playing a game of chance. So, why should a game like chess create addicts? Of course, there may be people who spend a lot of time trying to master the game and become the best in the world or reach a certain level. It you observe the nature of sports betting and casino games like slot you can tell that it's designed to attract addiction, given that it's not as complex as chess that requires deep thinking and calculative effort to win the game, casino games like slot doesn't requires much effort to learn and the result is instant.

Yes, it can. It all depends on personalities involved.

Think about it this way; people who can easily be addicted to chess are mostly nerds.It's just like reading, we also have people who are addicted to reading (i.e they can't go for a day without reading). I can confidently address anyone who has a rating above 2000 in chess as a chess addict because you will definitely need to devote alot of your time and energy in the game to achieve such rating. But you can say the number of people who are addicted to chess playing is low when compared to other games and sure that is because it is a mental game that involves logical reasoning.

But their are individuals who find critical thinking to be fun, those are the set of people who are addicted to the game of chess. I also have friends who could get distracted and spend almost their whole day playing chess. That is addiction in my opinion.

The answer is a capital NO. It is very evident with the way the game is. We can't compare chess game to other gambling games like football betting and all other ones. The reason is because they have two different modes of winning. In gambling such of football betting and other ones, the winning mode is based on LUCK, while in chess, the winning is based on expertise and experience.

You only win in chess when you known the game and an expert in it. A newbie in chess can't win someone who have played chess foe years and knows the game very well. You are right mate, apart from chess, I also think that those games that are mostly dependent on the players skill and his intellectual strength rarely breed addicts. Honestly I am not seeing any crypto based gambling houses offering chess based games to gamble whereas most casinos are just repeating what we do see in most successful casinos, really demonstrates the lack of innovations but we cannot ignore the fact that casinos will prioritize what gamblers prefer and what attracts most gambles. Simple mechanics play the big part here, it's made people easily addicted when they stake low and suddenly hit big win, who doesn't like seeing small money turn to big money when only simple things to do and that very different from playing chess. I don't think people are really addicted to it,just that many are obsessed with the game ,it's a brain work and winning feels good , because it make one feel smart,luck isn't really necessary in chess game ,many plays it for fun and competition mainly brain competition to see who will do better ,only problem I find it is that if you pay  so much attention to it,it can make you forget other activities,so it's best to have a time frame for it , that is why even if there is a prize for it at the end , people hardly get addicted to it .

I think it also comes down to the amount of time you spend on the game and the effort involved. When you place a bet, you analyze the situation, but it takes significantly less time. When you are actually a player rather than someone betting on the game, you are directly involved in the competition, and that requires specific skills. Playing chess puts a lot of pressure on the brain due to comparative intelligence, calculations and thinking of new strategies one after another, which is why most people do not get addicted to chess. However, this does not mean that no one bets or does not like chess, but comparatively very few people get addicted to it. I have seen some people who play chess regularly but do not gamble or bet through it.

Another thing is that as you said, people get more addicted to games where it can be played easily and where there is not much pressure on the brain.
