This was previously discussed: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5591224.0 But there is no poll over there for that.

Edit:
I will always go with the option of taking part and spreading the rest across 29 years, since money can just be exhausted when it comes in bulk, but you can manage it very well and reflect in the next year if you misuse the first round payment.

Looking at $1.04B vs about $450.5M, it would seem at first that the annuity is obvious winner here Grin. But that's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. $1.04B is 29 years of future dollar and $450.5M is today's dollar. Also implied discount rate between these two number is roughly 5%/year. In other word, if the winner can make about 5% annual return after tax in long run, then the economic value of lump sum becomes quite competitive with the annuity. Cheesy

Thats 50% deduction of overall winning but having that lump sum of $450M and thinking that tomorrow isnt guaranteed, then you would definitely be getting this option. So do I.
Actually it would really be just that depending into your preference whether you are thinking up for long term and wanting for your family to benefit it out at the moment you die already then they do able to get benefit since the payment would be over 29 years and basing up into your lifespan then it would be something give out that confidence and assurance but well, we do have those questions and doubts when it comes into this aspect.
For me then i would be getting the lump sum no doubt.

This should be the second time similar thing is happening as I have seen a similar post in this forum. In his situation, I would go for the full amount spread over 29 years. I wouldn't want to lose more than 50% of my winning, neither would I want to take the risk of one off payment to avoid mismanagement of the lumpsum. Receiving the payment month means I would never have to work again and as the money is dropping I will be investing it diligently.

If there is a guarantee backed by the law that the money would not be stopped halfway through to the number  of years it spans across then it will be okay with me otherwise one time lump sum would be better. These days funny things happens a lot as there could be a turn or twist of event which would likely not be in the winner's favour. Policies could be changed at any time, a new terms and conditions might  invalidate the payment halfway. So anyone taking any decision should be able to think far and wide the possibilities of event's occuring and how to manage situations if they choose to spread  the payment over 29 years.
