Domain name update in 2020.

The forum was originally located at bitcoin.org/smf, then forum.bitcoin.org (hence the redirect), and finally bitcointalk.org. Fun fact: The name "bitcointalk" was invented by Jeff Garzik, and he's the one who bought the domain.

Cobra also owns the bitcointalk.org domain name. I consider the forum to be basically owned by or at least dedicated to the Bitcoin community, though; I don't call anyone an owner of the forum.

OP’s post is about bitcoin client domain and yours is about bitcointalk from the op post you’ll see that the domain was created in August, 2009 when bitcoin client was launched while bitcointalk was created later that year in November, Or am I the one getting it wrong?

You're correct, this forum never took the domain "bitcoin.org", even when it was attached to the site that has the domain name, it was only a webpage "bitcoin.org/smf" and not the main site . bitcoin.org is the official site for bitcoin, domain was bought by satoshi himself, the forum is an environment for relevant bitcoin discussions which is why it was later taken out as a subdomain "forum.bitcoin.org" and finally had its own domain "bitcointalk.org". The person you quoted didn't understand the OP before he rushed to reply. The site has existed quite long though and it is a beauty it's still in existence long after Satoshi disappeared.

However, just like you’ve said that the site was still active even after satoshi left. I’m part of the people that will wonder who pays for the renewal of the domain servers since it clearly shows that satoshi just paid for 1year service.
Who has been paying for the subsequent years since satoshi disappeared? You might not be in the right position to answer that but that just my thoughts.

According to the bitcoin.org, the website was owned by Satoshi Nakamoto and Martti Malmi. Satoshi handed it over to some people before he left. The site depends on support from the Bitcoin community, which comes in the form of donations and sponsorships. 

Many Bitcoin critics would expect the site to go extinct after a few years since they thought that Bitcoin is a failed project. It's a great achievement for the site to be consistent for 18 years. I also give credit to those that a managing the project; they are doing a good job.

Still running and surviving for a full 18 years, I think that's the power of a strong community that continues to support Bitcoin and maintain what Satoshi has built. We still don't know what the future holds. But I hope that 18 years from now, Bitcoin will be much bigger and more widely adopted globally. *fingers crossed

Finger crossed! Nah, don't worry. If it has lived 18 years, then it is a teen already, has lived through the hardest phases, and now into another phase where it will get mature haha, like me.

Really, it is a great achievement for that site. It possesses great information, official sources, and information for open source wallets. For a newbie, that site is more than enough to learn things and ask questions here on Bitcointalk.

Both bros are the best combo for someone to start their journey in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin didn't fail those who trusted in it since, it was created by Satoshi and that's why this forum is still very active since 18 years ago till date regardless, that the rate of adoption of bitcoin is very slow. Bitcoin has continued to survive the harsh weather and a lot of attacks on it by the government, institutions and individuals in the past.

As bitcoin increases in value overtime, the same way this forum will increase in members overtime which is a sign that the community has come to stay as long as bitcoin exists. This forum has automatically been a blessing to forum members for the past 18 years.

It has really been a great ride all along and he will be happy seeing what he has created still evolving and has equally come to more live for many to get information on. For it to have been in existence for 18 years, doubling the number of years is already an already accomplished goal. Bitcoin has always doubled its all time high at every bull market, so I expect that as long as Bitcoin is alive and keep doubling its value, then this website will continue to be live and continue to serve its purpose. When it marks two decades (20 years) of existence, I will be expecting it to live and active for another 20 years again.

Only time can tell but we're all optimistic about it, the next years might be the easier ones compared to the earlier years where we know that a lot of people have doubted Bitcoin.

Yes, how time flies isn't it, perhaps most of us are trying to recall where we are 18 years ago, in my case, I'm doing some freelance job as a side hustle. And having doing it for many years, it was one instrument how I discovered Bitcoin as we have been talking about it with my peers.

And since Bitcoin is the prime mover, although might not be the first one, Satoshi put everything together, had similar inspirations to get his idea on how a crypto could be successful. So for sure we will exist for another 18 years or more and as time goes by, it's value as going to be higher in the future.

This also gives me great joy when I see many people around the world who had no idea about Bitcoin before trying to learn new things and they are fascinated and believing in it. The popularity of Bitcoin is increasing day by day. In the past 18 years, Bitcoin has decreased a lot in terms of price. Those who did not like Bitcoin from the beginning have repeatedly said that Bitcoin will never come back. But Bitcoin has made its own position and has proven that no opinion or thought of people can have any impact here. Nothing can stop the Bitcoin network. And behind all this, this forum has also been playing a very important role. This forum creates a great opportunity for beginners to learn practically. If a curious person wants to know about how Bitcoin was launched from the very beginning, what kind of thoughts people had and what topics were discussed, then they can also see them through this forum. That should still exist until now because it's part of Satoshi's history, since he originally owned it. Anything connected to him should be preserved, including this forum, because all of these are part of the early history and success of Bitcoin.

But I just have one question, who owns the website now? Could the current owner possibly have any connection to Satoshi?
