Hi everyone,

We’ve recently opened applications for the Eritrea Internet Gaming License, and we wanted to introduce the framework here as there are a number of casino operators, sportsbook operators, game providers and crypto gaming businesses active on BitcoinTalk.

Official website:
https://eritreagaming.com/

Player Safety & Complaints

Before going into the licensing information, we want to make one thing very clear:

Player safety is one of the most important priorities of the Eritrean Gaming Commission and Eritrea Gaming.

We would like this BitcoinTalk thread to be used not only by operators and providers interested in licensing, but also by players who have questions, concerns or issues involving a company operating under an Eritrean Internet Gaming License.

If you are having an issue with an Eritrean licensed operator, you are welcome to raise it in this thread.

Where appropriate, we can:

• Confirm whether a casino, sportsbook or gaming business actually holds an active Eritrean licence
• Confirm whether the domain being used is an approved domain
• Help direct players to the correct complaints process
• Review concerns involving an Eritrean licensed operator
• Escalate potential regulatory or compliance issues where appropriate
• Identify websites falsely claiming to hold an Eritrean licence

Every legitimate Eritrean licence and approved domain is intended to be publicly verifiable through the official register.

Who can apply?

The framework is available for both B2C operators and B2B gaming service providers, including:

• Online casinos
• Crypto casinos
• Sportsbooks
• Prediction markets
• Poker / bingo operators
• Game studios and game providers
• Casino platform / technology providers
• White-label technology providers
• Gaming software and API providers

Current licence costs

• €10,000 licence issuance
• €10,000 annual renewal
• €300 per additional approved domain / URL
• Indicative processing period of 10–15 days for a complete application

Looking for Operators & Industry Partners

We’re currently interested in speaking with:

• Existing operators looking for an alternative licence
• New casinos and sportsbooks preparing to launch
• Crypto gaming businesses
• Game studios/providers requiring B2B licensing
• White-label and platform providers
• Gaming licence consultants and resellers
• Corporate service providers working with iGaming clients

If you're an operator/provider and would like us to review whether your business may be eligible, feel free to contact us directly within this forum or through:

Licensing: licensing@eritreagaming.com
Partnerships: sales@eritreagaming.com

More information, application requirements and regulatory documentation:

https://eritreagaming.com/

We’ll also be monitoring this thread, so operators, providers and players are welcome to post questions here.

With the name itself Eritrea means its a country right? As far as I researched regarding gambling even offshore websites doesnt allow any users and even operators to do so in the country.

Gambling in Eritrea: what you need to know
All forms of commercial gambling are prohibited in Eritrea, with no licensed land-based or online sector. The ban is enforced by the authoritarian state and reflects cultural norms. While modern betting is absent, traditional strategy games like Andada are popular. Internet infrastructure is extremely limited, further preventing online gambling.

Can you explain this? The business as I understand is about licensing for gambling and gaming operators right?

Also find an information that states:

Is online gambling legal in Eritrea?
Online gambling status: Illegal (Online casino, sports betting and online poker illegal). Land-based gambling: Restricted or illegal. The current framework was established in 1991. Players who use offshore sites face direct legal risk under Eritrea's laws.

Using a VPN to access gambling sites in Eritrea is Illegal.

Crypto gambling in Eritrea is Banned.

Jusy to clarify cause it seems gambling even from foreigner operators seems banned or illegal.

Yes, Eritrea is the country/jurisdiction behind the licence.

The important distinction is between gambling being offered to people physically located in Eritrea and Eritrea authorising and regulating companies that provide internet gaming services internationally.

The information you quoted from GamblingMaps appears to describe the position concerning domestic gambling access in Eritrea and, importantly, does not reflect the newer government specific internet gaming framework that was formally established in 2026.

On 14 July 2026, the Government of the State of Eritrea issued a specific authorisation establishing the Eritrean Internet Gaming Regulatory Framework. The instrument expressly states that internet gaming is authorised to be licensed and supervised under this framework and that eligible B2C operators and B2B gaming service providers may apply for an Eritrean Internet Gaming Licence.

The Eritrean Gaming Commission is designated as the competent regulatory authority responsible for issuing, renewing, supervising, suspending and revoking these licences.

This does not mean an Eritrean licence allows an operator to offer gambling everywhere, or necessarily to Eritrean residents themselves. The Government authorisation specifically states:

- “No licence issued under this framework authorises activity in a jurisdiction where local law separately prohibits or requires additional local authorisation.”

Operators therefore remain responsible for blocking restricted markets and complying with the laws of every country in which they accept players.

So there is no contradiction in Eritrea restricting gambling access domestically while at the same time operating a government authorised regulatory framework for licensing offshore/international B2C and B2B internet gaming businesses.

The document you referenced is a third party website, whereas the current framework is based on the Government gaming specific authorisation dated 14 July 2026, Reference EGC/GSA/2026/0714-001, which is recorded as ACTIVE.

This is interesting. From what I can see, you're trying to compete with the typical Caribbean countries where cryptocurrency casinos usually obtain their licenses. This is the first time I've heard of an African country doing this.

So, like licenses from Caribbean countries. You can issue an international license, but in countries where gambling is prohibited or where a specific national license is required, that casino wouldn't be able to operate there. However, there are plenty of countries where, due to a lack of regulation, it would be possible.

And by the way, I don't know exactly how much Caribbean licenses cost, but yours seem cheap—I guess you're trying to attract customers with the price.

I did a little search and seems like the initial cost for an Anjouan license it $17000 roughly with other expected fees to be $40000+. Not sure if this company is legit at the moment, but if so, definitely the cheaper option.

This is good because most of the casinos coming here without license and this will be an opportunity for them to have their license done. So how long will it take to register casino license? And I also navigate around the internet to see if I can obtain some information about your services but what I found was Eritrea is not offering gambling license both online and offline. I don't know if this is true or not.

I know Eritrea is an independent African nation that gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993. It also has no known record online of having an official sovereign framework for international iGaming.
So what Op posted may just be a made up ruse because it smells like a scam site to take advantage of those who want cheaper license.

This is interesting. From what I can see, you're trying to compete with the typical Caribbean countries where cryptocurrency casinos usually obtain their licenses. This is the first time I've heard of an African country doing this.

So, like licenses from Caribbean countries. You can issue an international license, but in countries where gambling is prohibited or where a specific national license is required, that casino wouldn't be able to operate there. However, there are plenty of countries where, due to a lack of regulation, it would be possible.

Yes, that is broadly what the commission is building - an alternative international licensing option for B2C operators and B2B gaming suppliers, particularly in the crypto gaming sector.

The difference we are trying to establish is that the Eritrean framework is expressly supported by a Government of the State of Eritrea gaming specific authorisation, with the Eritrean Gaming Commission acting as the regulatory authority.

We are still in the process of building international recognition with PSPs, banks, testing laboratories, platform providers and other industry counterparties, so we are not pretending that recognition is already at the level of long established jurisdictions.

This post is mainly aimed at crypto operators and suppliers who are interested in an alternative to jurisdictions such as Anjouan or Curaçao and are willing to look at a newly established, government authorised framework.

The licence also does not override local law. Operators remain responsible for blocking markets where gambling is prohibited or where a separate national licence is required.

It is a new jurisdiction, so people should absolutely do their own due diligence rather than just trusting a forum post.

We are not claiming that the license already has the same international recognition as Curaçao or other established jurisdictions. The Commission is still in the process of building recognition with PSPs, banks/EMIs, testing laboratories, gaming suppliers and other industry counterparties.

The reason we are posting here is to speak with crypto operators and B2B suppliers who are specifically looking for an alternative and are comfortable assessing a new jurisdiction early.

What we can provide is the underlying documentation. The Government Gaming Specific Authorisation is dated 14 July 2026, Reference EGC/GSA/2026/0714-001, status ACTIVE, and expressly establishes the Government authorised framework, the Eritrean Gaming Commission's regulatory powers and the B2C/B2B licensing structure.

There is also a full application and due diligence framework covering UBOs, source of funds, AML/CTF, personal suitability, technical review, restricted markets and public license verification.

We believe our license stands out because it is fully authorized by a recognized government body. This sets us apart from jurisdictions like Anjouan, which operate under much looser regulatory standards.

Yes, it really catches your eye. I’ve had a look online and this is the first thing I see.

I’m not entirely sure how reliable the information on GamblingMaps is either, but the OP certainly has a lot of explaining to do if they want people to believe them.

Are we supposed to be able to find that online? I've just googled it and can't find anything.

This is indeed good if ever they will manage to succeed on attracting new casino to pursue their license.

However, this good is still subjective to their activeness on the forum when they already get the client since we can report directly to them shady casino wearing their license unlike typical license like Curacao and Anjouan that very hard to reach out by players having problem to casino.
