I'm afraid the sad reality is that if you're just one ordinary mortal, your money can't move along with what you call smart money. At most, your timing could coincide with theirs. Outside of that, however, expect that your money is always two steps behind. What often happens is that you either miss the bus or be happy with leftovers.
I guess it's better to just create your own path and stop guessing which step "the elite and smart money" takes next.
There's so much sense in your input, because it's not about information or following the whales, it is more about how much you have to lose and still remain buoyant, because whether we like to agree or not, smart money investors also make loss but they don't get affected financially because they have money in surplus.
Big players have massive cash reserves, and can survive the harsh reality of the market longer than a retail investor who is barely afloat ever could, even if all the right info is made available.
