Building a better nation is a responsibility for everyone; therefore, we all have a role to play in this. Together, both the leaders and the citizens must be able to support the government and ensure that everyone at their various levels performs their roles and responsibilities in national building.

We must also consider the economic aspects, which should be balanced because we need one to run in order to boost its productivities, everyone must also ensure for full participation, this will increase the chances of having a perfect economy.

Both citizens and government have a mutual role for the betterment of a nation. Government must set goals, plan and implement them and there should be good leaders and representatives in government not the ones that contribute to corruption. Likewise citizens must be helpful and law abiding. Because in some nations citizens are not contributing to the development of the country at all. Some citizens even lavish economic boosting resources such as crude oil, mining resources and other government properties. And some citizens go ahead to misuse what the government has already done, such as health facilities and others.

You can have all the mineral resources in the world, and your country will still be very poor and undeveloped.
When a country has a lot of mineral resources and they don’t have good leaders that has the quality it takes to build the nation they will not grow or be successful. It is only when the nation has those resources and also a leader that can manage those resources very well that they can grow.

In Nigeria, we have a lot of natural resources that can make us become one of the most developed and rich country in the world, but because we lack good and quality leaders that can change the country for good that is why we are still undeveloped.
This poor leadership is where the problem of most nations come from, even with all the minerals on earth a country without good leadership system will continue living in poverty because all those corrupt leaders will be interested in what they will gain and not why they where elected into power. Among everything, what we should be looking at is how to live a transparent life that can help build a better nation.
The only solution to this underdevelopment we experience today is change in government, so those resources can be utilised to become useful to the citizens and country.

Having mineral resources doesn't guarantee a better nation or make a country developed. A country might have enough mineral resources  but lack the ability of management,  management in the sense that the money made from the natural resources are used for the benefits of the citizens of the country.

Sadly even protests have lost momentum in Nigeria these days. Protests are one of the ways the people and citizens can use to correct bad governance and also put government in their place, it is practiced even in developed countries where you might say the government is on top of their game yet people do protest especially when their needs are not sufficiently or effectively met by the programs and policies of the government. This is where we would have performed effectively as a citizenry but unfortunately we are also losing our voice and in a country like mine, the people have relaxed too much to the point the government do not value their clamors any longer and this is where the major problem lies. The people are the enabler of these corruptions if you look at it critically. Because the people have relaxed so much and do not hold the government accountable for what it responsible for, the government have now also underrated the importance and the power of the people.

The best nation is one that allows its people total freedom, except where people harm other people, damage the property of other people, or directly threaten other people. That's the way the USA was in its beginning times.

Things have changed for the USA. Even though this is still the written basis in all the US laws, it is being trampled by government people and people of the courts. The are dragging the common people into their jurisdiction through the usage of words that the common people don't know how to defend against.

This is bringing the USA freedom down, and turning it into part of a worldwide prison, run by the BIS bank.

The Bank That Runs the World - And Why You've Never Heard of It

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS), a sovereign financial institution in Basel, Switzerland, was created after WWI to manage German war reparations. Founded by central bankers like Montagu Norman of the Bank of England and Hjalmar Schacht of the German Reichsbank, the BIS was granted unprecedented legal immunities via the 1930 Hague Convention, making it exempt from taxes and its assets immune from seizure, even in wartime. After the Great Depression rendered its original purpose moot, it became a secretive club for central bankers.

You are right. The government and the citizens have equal responsibility for the development of a country. For example, the government should ensure equal law for all and take a strict stand against corruption, and the most important thing is to improve the education system so that students can be skilled along with education. And the government should ensure proper accountability for the citizens to fulfill their responsibilities and make decisions correctly. If the government provides accurate information then only the citizens will be able to make correct decisions regarding their career, business, education, investment. Just as citizens should pay taxes properly, the government should use them properly, which will be beneficial for the citizens. The government should create the country's system in such a way that the citizens do not go the wrong way, do not make wrong decisions. If the government can create such an environment, then the citizens will also be responsible.

The problem isn't in the mineral resources but about the leader's who are not accountable over public money and have sold themselves out completely that all they think about is themselves and their pocket alone. A nation that invest heavily on its citizen's by providing more skills to the youth, create jobs, invest in good road, education, health knowing fully well that one day this resources will run out will go far and be better compared to a country where these things are not found.

A better nation builds school's, good road, refineries and even factories, bad system of government will rather not focus on development but shares money, and a country will experience greatness if the system is working efficiently, like the police wouldn't be taking bribe, the health sector works, the court works, NAFDAC is also working and people that are giving positions or contract delivers without embezzling the money meant for a project thereby leaving people to suffer for their selfishness.

It seems to me that a country will develop only if it has a lot of oil, gas or mineral resources—the matter is not that simple. The real issue is how the country is using what it is getting from those resources. Many countries have a lot of resources underground, but due to corruption and not taking proper care of them, it does not make much difference in the lives of the common people. Then there are countries that do not have much natural resources, but they have made great progress by emphasizing education, medicine, technology and creating skilled people.

To me, the greatest asset of a country is its people and strong institutions. If the money from the resources is used for education, health, communication and new employment, it will benefit the entire country in the long run. But if that money is stuck in the hands of a few people, then even if the country's resources increase, people's lives will not change much. So, I think, having resources is certainly good, but if those resources are not in the right hands and used properly, it is not possible to develop a country with resources alone.

Becoming a responsible and respected nation is not easy, and it's not the government's duty to train its nation to be responsible nation. What steps should be taken by the government if people don't respond? History shows that to raise awareness to people, the main role is in the leader's hands, but, along with citizens they also give good responses, so that they pick the policies and then apply them in their daily routine.

Along with an ethical nation, it should be financially stable if they survive in the world honorably. But for a strong economy like America and China, people should pay full attention to the policies given by the government, and the government should also make citizen-friendly policies. If those steps are taken, then we will see a lot of improvement and innovations and technology can be seen which are also created by our people.

Many may say some nations where blessed with diversity of mineral resources which was why they where able to build a better nation while some that has this same minerals even in excess still suffer and never finds way to out smart poverty and unconditional hardship every day.
After seeing this it got me confused and made me think of asking if this same minerals that transformed the developed nations are still the same once in the once swimming in poverty or if there is something the underdeveloped once are missing i all rectification,  so if there is i will be placed if this should be brought to my knowledge.
Good governance is what will determine if a country is going to survive or going to face trials through bad governance. There are many countries that are suffering now due to bad leaders that are busy stealing their natural resources instead of using those resources to build roads, businesses, industries, schools for people to learn and get good job when they are done with school. Bad and corrupted politicians are the ones taking over the government and leading the people into the river.

At same time citizens also have a responsibility to contribute positively to their country by being law abiding, responsible and protective of public resources and in some kind of country citizen’s themselves contribute to underdevelopment by illegal of exploiting resources such as crude oil, minerals resources and vandalizing government property.

Yes citizens can also misuse and damage facilities provided by government like you mentioned earlier such as schools, roads, hospitals and other public infrastructure, so therefore national development cannot be responsibility of the government alone so both side most play their part for the nation to truly progress and be a better country again.

Yeah that valid. Citizens are also part of the problem when they vandalize public properties, like that of street light or transformer cable.
But also, the  root causes of all this behaviors needs to be looked into. Common man loses patriotism when the leaders aren’t doing the right thing by looting billions, showing bad examples. The presence of hunger, broken systems and anger lead poeple to be desperate enough to come to destroy little infrastructures that are available just for survival.

Leaders must first of all live as a good examples for us to have a better nation. If the is working positively and theirs a care for the masses citizens are going to fall in line and protect their country properties.

CHANGE BEGINS FROM ME AND YOU !!!

We can't completely put away resources it's the backbone of a nation to grow speedily, if a leadership is oriented and future focus where they harmonize with the citizens for development and everyone having their hands on desk by doing what it takes such as maintenance of public property and ensuring the government do the right thing kick against any policy that is anti development such nation must be better, but one thing vital to note is that punishment of those. Who embezzling pubic fund and violation of laws must be brought to book and serve if it demand capital punishment the execute without mercy these are few qualities needed to be better nation.

The is no magic iin bringing a country into a developed standard than having a good plan which hits the ground running and using experts in the various sectors in executing those plans of the leader for the country, which is what several leaders in underdeveloped and developing countries are bereaved of, resource management.

When embezzlement of funds becomes excess in any country, it will spend all it years servicing debts that the money borrowed that accumulated to big debt was never used in infrastructural development but embezzled.

Development is never about how much resources a country has but about the content of the leadership and how the scarcely available resource are managed. I usually question how much resources Britain has for it to have developed to what it is today compared to many other countries with much resources that are still struggling to advance.
