Adoption in Bitcoin is on the increase but I think a lot of what we put emphasis on is getting people onto Bitcoin and what happens to them after they are here. Most newly converted Bitcoin user, know how to buyBitcoin but do they understand about seedphrases, fakewallets, phishing links ,that one transaction cant be undone, to check information before paying and many others ? In Nigeria especially where much of crypto is picked up via social media and personal contact, this can pose a grave threat.

Adoption without knowledge can create more victims than Bitcoin users.

It could be helpful if we could as a local community prioritize Bitcoin basic safety training and knowledge before trying to shove people into Bitcoin and encourage them to spend . One who can secure and protect his Bitcoins is worth much more to the ecosystem.

What should be learnt first, before paying with our first dollar forBitcoinin Nigeria?

Someone teaching anyone about Bitcoin investment has only one first task to do. Not the profit making but the security of your coins. The rate of uninformed new investors we have today are at it's peak.

Most people come into the market just for making profits but forget that the path to such accomplishment is not as easy as it sound. Except you want invest in ETFs which I don't consider as Bitcoin investment

Knowing how to keep you coins secured is the most scared knowledge that any Bitcoin investor should hold dear as without it, your journey would be very rough..

This is not really a big deal if the person that introduced one into bitcoin tell them also about the security aspect of holding bitcoin. Many people don’t really know much about bitcoin security and privacy and just delve into investing into bitcoin, thank God to forums like this that helps to enlighten people more about bitcoin security and privacy.

I know that not everyone will get to have the privilege or opportunity to learn from here, but even the internet and social media spaces don’t lie when you know how to seek for the right knowledge about what you’re investing into. How sensitive and highly valued bitcoin can be doesn’t allow for exposing some important information about your holdings, but when you don’t know it is better you ask and view multiple options for one which is the right one to follow.

Scammers can disguise as if they’re helping you not knowing they’re after your coin, so do well to know who you trust and not to trust. The best way around is to always seek for knowledge and know about the potential risk exposure flags that can temper with your holdings.

What should be learnt first, before paying with our first dollar forBitcoinin Nigeria?
It depends on how much you want to invest that will determine the kind of knowledge that you should seek first. If you want to invest a huge amount then it is necessary to understand how to buy bitcoin, how to withdraw it to a hardware wallet and how to protect your private keys. If you want to buy a small amount of bitcoin then what you should learn is just to buy and DCA till you have accumulated a huge amount then you can move it to a self-custody wallet and learn how to protect your wallet and other security measures that you will need to follow in order not to fall for scams, phishing attacks and avoid clicking on malicious links.

The bottom line for me is to have both the basic knowledge and know about 80% of what Bitcoin is all about and the kind of investments involved in it, because knowing just only part of it could also pose a threat when the market becomes very erratic and security wanes.

The knowledge of spot ETF, DCA, lump sum, mining, are all important and an integral part of the ecosystem before a potential investor can then decide on which is more convenient to invest in and the best risk management practices to secure it.

It’s the responsibility of everyone who’s interested in something to learn further [and that includes what you’ve mentioned].

Anyone who introduces you to get some bitcoins will actually explain the basics of what to do and not .. to keep your Bitcoins safe unless he’s also doing it wrongly [this is why you should always do your own researchs].. the rest is left as your responsibility and as well as , asking questions when needed.

You literally don't need to be spoon-fed before you know about thing you need to know about Bitcoin security, because to me, I think the basic about Bitcoin safety and how to buy and sell their Bitcoin, including the best non custodial wallets where you need to store your Bitcoin, in other to have full control over it is all a complete newbie need while starting his or her Bitcoin investment journey, while the rest can be learnt by himself or herself. Which is why we always emphasize that people do their own research even while investing in Bitcoin. And when it comes to creating a local community to help people out, that was the main reason why this forum and most especially our local board was created, as a medium to help those newbies within our geographical locations about the right use and protection of our Bitcoin. So it's left for you to apply what you have already been thought.

What should be learnt first, before paying with our first dollar forBitcoinin Nigeria?

You know, even when you go to the bank to get a debit card, the attendant will always warn you not to share your pin with anyone and they will also tell you that they will not call you on phone to demand for your personal information such as password and pin, right? That's because any thing that has to do with your financial security is very iimportant. Relating this to what newbies of Bitcoin investment must learn first, they must bear in mind that the security of their Bitcoin is important and so should endeavor to learn about the best way to securely hold it without losing their private keys or even giving their wallet access to scammers. Before investing, learn about the risk, security is one risk that some beginners overlook, they think the only risk is about that dynamic nature of price.

Adoption in Bitcoin is on the increase but I think a lot of what we put emphasis on is getting people onto Bitcoin and what happens to them after they are here. Adoption without knowledge can create more victims than Bitcoin users.

I blame the centralized exchanges that makes this difficult. One thing I have learn here and outside this forum. When you see a person from this forum talk about Bitcoin and altcoins and wallet, they don't included centralized exchange, it's aways within the forum and their wallet but once you engage a person that does not have quick background of crypto, the next thing that comes from their mouth is Trust wallet and exchange, I don't know how they becomes so used to exchanges.

There are many things to learn but it will also make sense if you learn about past or history of Bitcoin, show them the chart and the progress and how it has been. That first impression will win you trust, tell them things to share, how to have a wallet and demonstrate to them how to use Bitcoin. These are the things you need and if they are interested in learning more, introduce them to the forum, there is nothing wrong been active here to understand.

Op, when next that you want to post a thread please do pay attention to your spacing of words because I noticed that some of the words that are supposed to be separate were joined and secondly, also pay attention on how you insert your comma's so to enable readers get a proper understanding of the information which you're trying to convey.

Responding to your thread, I don't think there would ever be a time we would lack people or tools that will teach newbies about Bitcoin; this is the information age. Everything is available to you at your fingertips: Google, ChatGPT, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, and the rest of the other platforms we can learn from.

The question asked might be strange not when people use their phones to make research about bitcoin, learning is continuous so expecting everyday lessons might be impossible especially when the person is not staying close. Anytime I speak about bitcoin I always try to include the part concerning bitcoin risk probably tell them openly they have little chance succeeding if they don’t keep their coin safe and stay low meaning patience. Learning how to buy bitcoin is not the only knowledge a newbie should know instead keep personal informations private, knowing the wallet type matters too, so far what I have observed about bitcoin adoption growth is how people are easy to believe once they hear profit meanwhile if bitcoin never made progress definitely the adoption rate will decrease, people who fall as victim today also develop the mindset of quick money reason why they’re easily manipulated, not always about knowledge because scam is not only for newbies instead experience holders too once faced scam.

What should be learnt first, before paying with our first dollar for Bitcoin in Nigeria

Bitcoin will always figure itself out, don't be too concerned but instead focus on building yourself and your portfolio. The first thing is always learning how to navigate a Bitcoin wallet perfectly without mistake and always stores custodial wallets for your transactions or horllng plans so you can enjoy privacy, complete control of your funds, adjust fees or increase if there's a delay as that can't be done with centralized wallets or you get over charge. We have a high rate of influencers coming up with videos and guiding the new adopters so you shouldn't he worried as that's taking care of itself already.

What’s the rush? Some people rush into trying to introduce people to bitcoin as if it’s a Ponzi scheme with referral rewards; they don’t do the basic teaching before heading into the financial part, which is wrong, and in such a case, if the person who is introduced to bitcoin somehow loses his money, they will hold the person who introduced them to it responsible, as he or she failed to do the needful.

Bitcoin knowledge should be shared. What it’s like and how it works allow the person to understand it first, then decide on their own if they will invest or not and not to persuade them into it as if profit were ending the next day.

I was once a newbie and even though i had a few persons point me in the right direction, i didn't wait to be spoon-fed, i wanted to learn about bitcoin and i did. So i expect whoever i tell about bitcoin to do the same thing, even though i don't tell strangers about bitcoin and you obviously know the reason why.

Nobody has to tutor anybody, simply tell them about bitcointalk and share quality articles about bitcoin with them, in that way you have done half of the job, the other half now depends on the person and their desire to be a part of the network.

If you learnt how to buy Bitcoin first before learning about basic things like seed phrases, i really think something is off somewhere. There are certain basics that needs to be personally understood before you start purchasing Bitcoin especially when it comes to holding. If you dont understand the basic, i highly doubt you would be able to hold especially when the market shakes up a bit. Bitcoin is limited yes, but that doesnt mean we should just rush into buying something we dont personally understand and i really love the quote here "Adoption without knowledge can create more victims than Bitcoin users. ", this is so true, as we preach Bitcoin adoption we have to add proper education to it.

I feel like one thing that's easy to miss is that when you're advising someone who is a complete beginner to “do their own research”, it's not always sufficient. A beginner might not even be familiar with the research to be done or which risks to check out. The first lesson shouldn’t simply be how to buy bitcoin but more concerning the facts you are responsible for and the factors that can wreak havoc on you.
What a private key/seed phrase is, why no one should ever have to give their seed phrase, how phishing and fake wallets work, why transactions in Bitcoin can't be reversed in general, and so on and so forth.

After grasping those fundamentals, they can begin to learn about hardware wallets, multisig, privacy, exchanges, and anything else as they build their portfolio and understanding increases.
I believe that the person introducing somebody to Bitcoin has a duty to this as well. If you're ready to share with someone the worth of Bitcoin, you must also be able to share with them how the worth can go away with a straightforward security blunder.

It is hard to appreciate the significance of Bitcoin security unless you comprehend what you are attempting to protect.

No matter the amount we want to buy, taking into account our safety and that of our coin is paramount and for a newbie investor, I think before jumping into investing in any project, doings proper research about such project is always the best approach to investing and seeking proper safety measure to secure your investment is another important step to follow.

I had to quote you because I wanted to correct the impression about amount that, because every dime matters and if anyone gets scammed even if it’s $10 we would feel very bad and that’s is why we don’t need to wait for out investment amount to get to a certain level before taking the necessary steps.

It’s not everything you can teach someone especially when it comes to the security of their assets, even if they’re retarded at least they’re not retarded to an extent of not knowing that they will be security conscious of their asset or money just  the same way they protect their ATM card and pin or BVN not to reveal it to anyone except they truly trust the person. Their wallet seed phrase is their ATM pin and if they loose guard it then whatever be the outcome they should be able to face the consequences. I know that most newbies might not really know about seed phrase as all they’re inquisitive about is just to buy bitcoin and invest, but these things are there right from onsets which I believe they will be aware of when registering for an exchange or wherever they want to buy bitcoin, it’s just left for them or anyone who brings them on board to tell them to keep their seed phrase secured, it’s important they don’t just overlook it during the registration process because they might not know how important it is as at the time of registration but as time goes on they’ll get to know better.

You know one thing I noticed with some newbies  is, the do lay hopes on about the bitcoin price, how is it going to profits in due tune, when would the next  bull going to happen again, and that's what leads most of them to huge loses. Why no thinking about security, like how to manage the bitcoin you have bought and holding it for a while. It's high time the newbies should understand the fake wallet and the new wallet, know how or where to hide your seedphrase, not sharing with anyone nor matter what, because this days, scammers can disguise ro some extent just to be trusted. Most especially when you discover about bitcoin through social media. As you said, it becomes more easier for them to gain trust. Well not only introducing newbies be the without kidding them through is th3 main issues, but some newbies also are overwhelm with thier eyes service. Nevertheless, I still like some smart newbies that tends to be buying bitcoin gradually and be learning along the line. So the biggest lessons in Bitcoin investment is security.

What should be learnt first, before paying with our first dollar forBitcoinin Nigeria?
I like it always when we talk about money here we should stick to our currency, most of us here buy bitcoin with our Naira even if we have to convert to a stable currency so using terms like NCA instead of DCA for example is more appropriate. Like in this case I’ll prefer it to be “before paying with our first Naira for bitcoin “.

That aside I tink what should be learnt first for anyone coming into bitcoin should be understanding what that are about to go into, how it works, and how to keep it safe.
Most people  that get into wrong hands from trying to go into bitcoin are mostly the desperate one’s but if you’re open to learning and following what you’re told you shouldn’t have to a serious challenge as regards buy, trading or holding  bitcoin.
