Who here started gambling when they were still a minor?

I actually started gambling as a minor but it was not intentional or influence from pear group, but it was because my father usually send me an errand to place bet for him in the local shop, and from then I knew what gambling was all about. Though I was exposed but I was not gambling for myself.

I know gambling as a minor is risky, and I’m not saying minors should gamble. But in my case, being exposed early made me understand the risks, emotions, and self-control better.

The sad Truth is that even though you knew the risk and emotional problem involved, you will still gamble. Another problem there is that it's always easy to start but difficult to stop. Gambling as Minor will leed to long term Gambling addiction, it becomes very hard to stop because you started from tender age. You may claim to have master emotional and self control but it still doesn't stop you from gambling. I would've advice anyone to start gamble as Minor as well.

Your story has really proven that early experience can make someone to understand gambling in a different view. Just as you have said, it doesn’t mean that minors are supposed to engage in gambling The most essential thing is to understand the risk and learn self control because gambling can turn from being fun to a serious problem if a someone doesn’t have discipline.

 For me, I think experience over time teaches a person more things about gambling, especially knowing when to stop not seeing it as a source of income. Everyone has different story but the main point here is to gamble responsibly and never allow gambling to control your life.

I didn’t know about gambling at my young age, I knew about gambling when I was 18+ that is when I started gambling, I really didn’t know about anything that has to do with gambling, I wasn’t gambling then, but I have a friend who always comes to ask me about gambling predictions, since I’m very good with football, I usually gives him game predictions to win, and his been winning games, so I thought why don’t I gamble myself, that was how I started gambling, but I gambled at my older age, when I’m already accountable for every decisions I’m making, so I didn’t know anything about gambling when I was a minor, I don’t have access to the internet so how do I know about gambling, I used to see casino offices but I don’t really know what it is, because I wasn’t exposed to gambling at a young age.

I never gambled as a minor although I did act as a 'runner' for my uncle who would ask me to
place a bet for him, that was before the internet was invented! so he would give me the bookies
slip and the cash and I would go to the bookmakers shop and hand over the slip and cash.
I was too young to understand the odds etc.

When I was under 18 I would go to casinos on my holidays and play plinko type games, they
weren't considered gambling back in those days, oh the innocence!

It was only after I was over 18 that I first went to a casino to play slots!

If betting that the loser gets a punishment is considered gambling, then it can be said that I have been gambling since high school. Back then, I often made bets like that just for fun to make the game more exciting. For example, when playing dominoes or cards with friends, the loser would get a punishment, like playing cards/dominoes while squatting or having a rubber band snapped on the ear. Sometimes, we even bet while watching football, with the loser having to take a bath in the river all of this was done to make watching football more exciting. But as time went on and since I grew up and had my own income, I also started gambling with money.

Back in my school days, the internet wasn't like it is now and gambling sites weren't that many, maybe that's also why I didn't gamble when I was underage. But nowadays, with gambling being so easily accessible, there are actually quite a lot of underage gamblers and it's not uncommon for them to end up addicted. For you OP, you're lucky that even though you gambled from a young age you can still control yourself so you don't end up addicted.

My journey into online gambling started when I was in university. I was an adult, so I started real gambling when I was 20+ years old. But I think gambling at a young age is definitely very risky, and it is harmful in many ways.

I’ve been gambling with friends since as long as I can remember. I always really enjoyed making bets over card games or basketball shots… Great times. As a minor, I couldn't attend to casinos for obvious reasons, but gambling was already part of our culture since I was a child. I remember buying lottery tickets with my family and choosing the numbers we would bet. I remember going to community's religious parties where we played bingo game (although rewards weren't money, but gifts, food, drinks and so on). And we also gambled for fun among ourselves with small amounts of money when playing cards games, for an example.

Ironically, gambling has been considered illegal where I live since I was a child. It didn't prevent us from gambling, though.

When we were kids, we saw adults gambling with dice, and children imitated them with toy dice at school, using small money bets or even just for a few candies as stakes. 

But now we actually see minors accessing gambling. Even if it's with small amounts of money, I'm sure they are aware that they are gambling. It's not just having fun with a game.

Reading that so many people were exposed to gambling in their childhood is quite alarming, because children should not be exposed to gambling as it can cause serious negative impacts on them. And as adults, they should be aware that they have a responsibility to keep children away from gambling, yet it seems they are allowing it to happen. And I think there are also more children experiencing similar things now, where they are exposed to gambling and there's no one there to protect them, which might shape them into gamblers at a younger age.

Addiction is very dangerous and can completely destroy the life of a person of any age, and gambling is the most damaging to a person's emotions, and children become addicted very quickly through gambling. Of course, it is not right to let children go around gambling until they are adults because this can ruin a child's beautiful life. It is the responsibility of adults to keep children away from gambling.

It is very important for us to always be aware so that our children do not become attracted to gambling during their childhood. It is absolutely not right to expose them to such situations. I don't think there will be anything interesting about starting gambling as a minor, it is something the entire gambling industry forbids because it is explicitly stated in casino TOS that minors are not allowed to gamble. Hence, asking people to share their story of starting gambling as minors is like asking criminals to share their story from which we may not learn anything interest. Maybe you can explain what you want to achieve with such stories to motivate those who actually started gambling when they should be busy with their collage works.

I was introduced to the concept of gambling when I was younger probably before entering my teenage but I am not sure whether I participated in it or not. But I am sure that it was card game among the early 20s group of kids in the neighborhood, they used to gamble with real money using card game and even did many other things that I never tried, but that is my first encounter to gambling.

This reminds me of something: my grandmother was fan of playing cards, she would play regularly and whenever she would be having a good day, she would give some money to me and/or to my brother.

I am replying this post based on the people, I mean underage gamblers, they may not gain full knowledge about gambling and even though you were being sent to monitor whatever activity of you, you may not get that emotional feeling which are always attached while gambling with your real cash, but they were less of knowing what the real purpose of gambling. But if you are above that age you could get the best knowledge and understanding it will be that difficult for you to become easily addicted, and even though you are not addicted you will know the real pain of losing money.

Kids that are exposed to gambling can be affected negatively or not. It all depends on how the kid see it. Some are smart enough to know that's a dangerous activity for them while, some get carried away with it and get trapped.

I also started gambling as a minor, but I did that with friends because at that age, it will be dangerous for you to gamble with strangers and you cannot even go near adult gambling.

Gambling wasn’t really my thing then and before I started accessing gambling site,  I was above 20yrs.. not like I wasn’t aware of the gambling sites /Casinos then, not just interested even when I have a lot of friends very close to me into it then [won’t consider them minor, I roll with a lot of people above my age  . Probably my story is the quiet opposite when it comes to finding the right people to explain for you the risks, methods and dangers of gambling. Well, I am totally against exposing minors to gambling in their early age, most of young kids will just get thrilled to the designs and animation of nowadays games.

Myself, I knew about gambling all alone if I remember well, starting from the advertising campaigns in matches like world cup or leagues. So that’s when I was a kid and watching television I asked my dad about those ads, he simply said it’s a grownups thing and you shouldn’t search. Somehow, I kept thinking of it and started doing my research on Internet and found out about it.

Luckily for me, I learned few lessons even after growing up and knowing the risks, having a personality that takes risks and being at the wrong place and moment can definitely put you through it and gamble without following the right rules.

Been exposed to gambling or starting gambling at very early age is not really advisable or good per say because it is very true that under age children can be very fragile and they can be vulnerable to something ( that is to say that they can easily get addicted to something), you said you started around 10 years of age I mean that was really crazy and so early but the fact that you are not addicted to it and you did not over gamble means that you were really wise and brave person.
