Did Anyone Here Start Gambling While Still a Minor?

Who here started gambling when they were still a minor?

Already in my 40s now, and gambling is not really new to me since I was exposed to it when I was still a kid, maybe around 10 years old.

My grandfather had a small gambling place in our town, you know not a real casino, just a small local setup. Sometimes I was asked to watch the players and I would get a small commission whenever someone won. Because of that, I slowly became interested and eventually tried gambling myself.

I know gambling as a minor is risky, and I’m not saying minors should gamble. But in my case, being exposed early made me understand the risks, emotions, and self-control better.

I did not start gambling when I was underage, I started gambling when I was an adult. I remember very well that when I was in my 20s, I used to hang out with friends and maybe bet on a sports match or two with friends, but that was offline. I started gambling completely online. Before coming to this forum, I did not know much about online gambling. However, I was under the control of my parents and was away from mobile phones when I was underage and was under the control of my parents, which is why I could not indulge in such activities. However, I think that every parent should keep their children under their control until they understand their own good and bad and should teach them good and bad.

Gambling is banned in my area. It is an illegal and restricted activity. Back before online gambling became a viral phenomenon. There was plenty of offline gambling—things like dice games, cockfighting, or lotteries. These practices had actually been around for a long time.

However, I personally never engaged in it. My parents never gambled. So I was not really exposed to it growing up. To me, it was simply something that wasn't an option for us at the time. Especially as a kid. It was very rare, or rather, I simply never encountered it.

I know gambling as a minor is risky, and I’m not saying minors should gamble. But in my case, being exposed early made me understand the risks, emotions, and self-control better.

In my opinion, gambling is extremely dangerous even for adults, let alone for minors. Minors simply don't understand how to earn money, nor do they know how to manage their emotions or handle risk. It is just too risky. The situation might be different in a country where gambling is widespread or legal for the minors , but here, it is better to keep the minors away from gambling altogether.

Can you tell us how you managed the risks of taking the absolute control of yourself as a teen gambling? Even some adults still lost their ways due to lack of guidelines which involves self discipline which I believe someone at the age of 10 may hardly developed by himself and I'm sure that no adult would want to put you through all that because they wouldn't want to be associated spoiling little child like that of 10 years as you then.
If you have also passed through the difficult journey and made it a success, congratulations and I won't be surprised if you say you've attained the gambling knowledge up to the professional level.  .
I hope this shouldn't be misinterpreted to encourage underage gambling. Op told his experience and there's mystery behind it that not everyone in his shoe can survive it.

Frankly speaking, I didn't start gambling as a minor I was already in my twenties when I started.  I started gambling while I was working as a manager at a local gambling office on my street.

Initially,  gambling was something I did for fun because I was bored,  but what started as fun and entertainment began to control me,  and it was looking as if I was getting addicted to gambling.  

I started gambling with the company's money,  so I have to stop and redress myself,  and now i gamble normally with my own money and an amount I can comfortably afford to lose.

t was fun if the intention is to get entertained but become frustrating if the motive changes to profit.  But one think must always be in mind, allways gamble what we can afford to lose.

I recall how traditional dice and "crazy ball" games were frequently held in secluded spots in my neighborhood during my childhood to avoid detection by patrols. I didn't play the games myself, but I was often asked to make a guess, as children were believed to bring good luck. Sometimes, losing players would deliberately tip off the police to have the location raided.

People who grew up in neighbours where there are a lot of young men often experience street gambling as it is mostly common. I witnessed one during secondary school days but one thing that makes me not too often come close to them is because of how frequently they easily get into arguments, which in most times results in a fight, which I tried to avoid because I don't want to receive unexpected beating from anyone.

We gambled cards but I'm not sure you meant that, gambling for money is much easier in these days but gambling for things or marbles, toys, cards or anything was just as easy and common years ago as it might be now and I don't see its anything terrible.     The problem with cash betting in contrast is the ease at which is multiples without the feeling of real worth or harm that might come with the loss, if you physically lose your trading card or whatever then its more of a one off.
    I don't have any elaborate story, for cash as teenagers we used to play card games but only for coins never notes so mostly just fun.

I believe "Cara o Cruz" /Coinflip is probably the most common way children have to gamble and it is rather accepted by society to have children to gamble with coins, since they are seen rather as common items which do not necessarily represent casinos or bookies.

If you think about it, it is interesting how even casinos on the internet nowadays have taken the basic concept of Coinflip and adapted it so it can be played on electronic devices on the go. So we would still have complex slot machines, we also have simple Coinflip games on the same casino so we can variety to choose from.

I started gambling when I was 8 years old, if my memory serves me right. I was good with my Math so it's not really a problem for me to understand how the game works especially the card games.

Back then, you could easily spot people who were gambling outside. Most of them consisted of 3 old people sitting around one table. The police didn't even mind them because they knew it was just a small-time type of gambling. That is how I learned about gambling without even playing it yet, while watching the old ones play the game. So, of course, after learning it, it must be tested.
In the US, they play with pennies and dimes for low-stakes card games. Here in the country, we do that too, and we call it 1,2,3 but we use pesos.
