There’s a scene that repeats itself with suspicious punctuality. One of the Winklevoss brothers posts something on X. Carefully chosen words about financial freedom, about the end of a cycle, about what will be worth it in the coming years. Hours later, Zcash’s chart goes up. You don’t need to declare a conspiracy to notice that this has already happened too many times to be mere coincidence.

The story began discreetly, almost bureaucratically. In 2018, Gemini, the exchange founded by the twins who once battled Zuckerberg over authorship of Facebook, became the world’s first licensed exchange to list ZEC. It was a gesture of regulatory caution, almost notarial. At the time, they explained to the press why they preferred Zcash over Monero: regulators felt more comfortable, they said, because it was possible to trace who was withdrawing what. A privacy coin domesticated to please those who oversee it. There was an irony there that few noticed.

The years passed and the relationship slowly deepened, like someone building trust bit by bit. Shielded withdrawals enabled in 2020. Public conversations with the project’s own creator, Zooko Wilcox, discussing privacy as if they were old allies in a shared cause. And then, in November 2025, the gesture stopped being institutional and became personal and financial at once.

Winklevoss Capital invested nearly sixty million dollars in a forgotten biotech company, Leap Therapeutics, and turned it overnight into Cypherpunk Technologies. A Nasdaq-listed company with a single stated purpose: accumulating Zcash. The declared goal was to reach five percent of the entire circulating supply. It wasn’t a quiet move. It was announced, celebrated, commented on by Tyler Winklevoss in near-poetic lines about Bitcoin being digital gold and Zcash being money that moves unseen.

From there, the script became almost predictable. The company buys ZEC. The price reacts. One of the brothers shows up with a punchy line, sometimes an audacious price target, nearly a thousand dollars above anything fundamental analysis could comfortably support. The market reacts again. An eighteen-million-dollar purchase coincided with a ten percent rally in twenty-four hours. A statement about the end of AI hype made the token jump more than twenty percent the same day. The company’s position grew from two hundred thousand to over three hundred thousand ZEC in just a few months, always in plain sight, always followed by a press release.

There is, as far as public records allow us to see, no proof of secret agreement or illegal maneuvering. All of this happens in broad daylight, with press releases and signed posts. And it’s precisely that transparency that makes the case unsettling rather than reassuring. When the men who profit most from an asset’s appreciation are also the ones who talk most about why it should appreciate, it becomes hard to separate conviction from self-interest. Strategy did something similar with Bitcoin, and nobody called that a crime. But Bitcoin is an ocean. Zcash, by comparison, is a swimming pool, and the same stone thrown into the pool makes a much bigger wave.

Maybe there’s nothing beyond what those involved themselves claim: a sincere bet that privacy will be the next great chapter of cryptocurrency, with the money simply following that conviction. Or maybe there’s something subtler at work, a mechanism that needs no collusion to function, it just takes a handful of billionaires with a global megaphone buying a small asset and then talking it up loudly enough. The line between these two readings isn’t drawn anywhere. It’s up to whoever’s looking at the chart to decide which side of it they’d rather believe.

altcoins can be manipulated, as Elon Musk manipulated Doge through tweets, but there is nothing to support your hypothesis, as Zcash changes like any altcoin and there is no manipulation.

I agree with you to great extent because established altcoin like Zcash surely move like every other altcoins but something things changes that can result im massive rise or dump of certain altcoins. For instance, crackdown on privacy can greatly hinder certain privacy coins from rising rapidly just like when Monero was being delisted by so many exchanges. Such actions can affect the growth of certain coins thereby making them not respond to market even if other altcoins are moving.

it just takes a handful of billionaires with a global megaphone buying a small asset and then talking it up loudly enough.
To be fair, the same thing happened else where, like how Peter Schiff shilling for silver, Elon musk with his short tweet "Gamestonk!!" for GameStop in 2021, and tons of other examples.
The people with global megaphone will take advantage of it.

You will eventually realize that these billionaires don't get to become billionaire by doing what is right, they become rich by doing what is needed to make them rich, such as constant shilling of their own portfolio.

I agree with you to great extent because established altcoin like Zcash surely move like every other altcoins but something things changes that can result im massive rise or dump of certain altcoins.
These procedures do not involve the manipulation that DiscoJoker referred to. Manipulation of the value by one or two investors can happen with low value tokens and memecoins and is more difficult with established altcoins like Zcash.

I like your analogy comparing Bitcoin (BTC) to a vast ocean & small cap altcoins to small ponds, it makes the concept easy to understand, even for a beginner. Fundamentally, in any financial instrument, whales can have a significant impact on asset prices. There are many real examples, starting with Elon Musk & Dogecoin (DOGE).

Institutions or individuals who have big capital will become a catalyst. So, it's quite possible that the rise in the price of Zcash (ZEC) isn't solely due to market movements, but rather driven by a specific catalyst.

The story began discreetly, almost bureaucratically. In 2018, Gemini, the exchange founded by the twins who once battled Zuckerberg over authorship of Facebook, became the world’s first licensed exchange to list ZEC.
Taken in isolation, it doesn't look suspicious. But viewed together, it gives one pause.

Indeed, if one has to choose between Zcash and Monero, then, of course, the only choice is the private coin - Zcash. Cheesy

Winklevoss Capital invested nearly sixty million dollars in a forgotten biotech company, Leap Therapeutics, and turned it overnight into Cypherpunk Technologies. A Nasdaq-listed company with a single stated purpose: accumulating Zcash.
Now, this is quite curious. A biotechnology company that has suddenly taken an interest in private Zcash.

The declared goal was to reach five percent of the entire circulating supply. It wasn’t a quiet move. It was announced, celebrated, commented on by Tyler Winklevoss in near-poetic lines about Bitcoin being digital gold and Zcash being money that moves unseen.
They announced it publicly precisely so they couldn't be accused of having a secret agenda.

This joke about the moves unseen is, of course, not bad at all. Smiley

There is, as far as public records allow us to see, no proof of secret agreement or illegal maneuvering. All of this happens in broad daylight, with press releases and signed posts.
It seems that was their strategy.

All of this happens in broad daylight, with press releases and signed posts. And it’s precisely that transparency that makes the case unsettling rather than reassuring.
What are you worried about? Is it because you’ve become concerned about the manipulative nature of this market?

When the men who profit most from an asset’s appreciation are also the ones who talk most about why it should appreciate, it becomes hard to separate conviction from self-interest.
Let me let you in on a secret: practically the entire crypto industry is driven by self-interest. Isn't it? If you are discussing Zcash, then you likely own this private coin as well and are interested in making money by investing in it?

Maybe there’s nothing beyond what those involved themselves claim: a sincere bet that privacy will be the next great chapter of cryptocurrency,
It would only be a form of pseudo-privacy, however, since regulators wouldn't allow for true privacy. That is precisely why the guys mentioned earlier opted for the private Zcash. They understand this dynamic and placed their bets on something with profit potential. That is why XMR wasn't chosen; the path to regulated markets is closed to that coin, meaning there won't be any growth.

with the money simply following that conviction.
I would be more inclined to believe that it's the other way around.

Privacy crackdown on coins like munero that you mentioned doesn't just happen like that or over the night, there have been in the news long before the exchanges start delisting them, so for anyone holding such coin they should have taken action when they read the news about government unfriendly laws that limit their privacy policies, altcoins that goes from 100-0 those ones are as results of market manipulation from the dev teams I mean insider dump will be the reason for wide market dump such coins can be easily identified.
