There are several reasons that lead to depression in our society and those reasons are on the rise daily. There are TV shows that enlighten people about the causes of depression and their curative measures but is this enough to end depression? I have noticed that even some people that talk about depression, that council victims of depression also get depressed at some point. Depression seems to be a personal thing influenced by external occurrences like disappointment, unfulfilled life and fears. We just have to caution ourselves against depression especially now when many people are already depressed. Worsening economy is a reoccurring factor, this is the aspect that may be solved by policies and surrounding neighborhood. But in the case of personal lives like relationships or religion or something very insignificant, how do you cure such, even rehabilitions don't solve this problem entirely because depression is personal and untill a person decides to fight off depression, no real help can be given.

Traumatic experiences in life can lead to a depressive state and I am sure that your friend got better when he let people in that looks like he got the cure but depression is something that doesn't go away like that and as a commoner, we should not be the one to say they are better because they can go to that depressed state at any time if something triggers them and it can be more aggressive.
You're right, but we just have to do something about it when somebody around us is depressed, like I said, I'm sure the pain didn't leave completely, but something about him changed, he was no longer an indoor guy, which change is a step towards leaving his bitter experience. Nothing beats associating with people you can trust when you're depressed. Kids are also strong antidotes to depression, I have been through depression myself, when my brother went through a surgical operation, the pain he went through didn't stop bothering me, until I started mingling with kids, one thing with spending time with children is that they're givers of joy, their words and instincts gives hope to the mind, and helps with seeing a brighter future over what kills us on the inside.

I know that not everyone will be comfortable with depression, but the challenge is that many are not keeping away from the things that cause depression by what they are doing. We need to make some adjustments to make things workout especially when we feel there is an abnormality going on with us. Once you are depressed, you lack confidence to face the future ahead of you.

In our world today, we have lots of depressed people living life like nothing is wrong. Depression can be as a result of many things like loneliness, financial pressure, peer pressure, stress and many others. Depressed people don't even speak up because the society don't place importance on it. Depression is real and we all go through it at different points in life. My question is why aren't we talking so much about depression and how to manage and help depressed people?
The many others, and addiction can be one of the causes. Many have learnt to live with depression, even an underage child is going through it. The world we live in is already turned upside down, even therapists have their own emotional and mental problems going on.

Everyone at this point needs the little help anyone can offer. Many are depressed, first and facial impressions are falsely how they feel on the inside, many suicidal cases are a case of depression, and nobody is available to stretch an arm or shoulder to lean on, depression isn't fought alone.

I cannot say that people are becoming comfortable with depreciation what I believe is that more people are now distressed due to various related reasons and everybody is focusing on handling their own issues, a depressed person can hardly help another depression person so depression is more common now, it's not as if people have become comfortable with it. A lot of family and economic problems that centers on money and relationships are the major causes of these depressions, when your best is no longer enough to give you a desired happiness, also health matters is a part of it when you watch yourself or your loved one gradually succumbing to sicknesses that is beyond control you would be overwhelmed. These things are very common in every societies and that is why depression is increasing, people don't like the increase but have to accept it and find a way to get out of it.

Making them comfortable is the right thing to do and I am not saying you did bad but we often mistaken that they are cured when we see some changes because if they actually got into depression then it is going to be a long recovery process so if we thought they are fine now and treat them just like everyone then they are just a triggering point away from having suicidal thoughts.

Depressed people don't even speak up because the society don't place importance on it. Depression is real and we all go through it at different points in life. Sometimes we feel nobody will understand what we are going through so the best thing to do is let it be in our head, not saying anything to anybody will only make matter worse and some persons keep quiet because of how they grew up, let's say in a family where the environment is toxic and the father and mother don't have time to listen to the child/children, with the quarreling, fighting and all that, it makes the child to keep things to him or herself. The moment they are seen as an adult it will still hurt them, speaking out or telling someone their problem will be hard because that was how they feel is the right way to go with life.
People will never see depression as something to bother about because it is now seen as part of life so there shouldn't be any importance to be placed on it, let's forget about it and move on but people are slowly dying from it. The best advise to whoever is feeling depressed is to talk to anybody that is good in giving advise, letting those pains out will heal you faster than creating a room of silence for it.

well I don't really blame those who keeps quiet in the state of depression sometimes, it might be as a result of how they where treated earlier before that made them to change there attitude on how they share there experience with people and the response they get in return may not be encouraging to them. So to them now keeping quiet seems to be the best solution, but it is not.
Silent makes depression worse and it makes people in such condition feelike like there life's waste and everything about them is wrong.

I have seen many conversations on social media and TV channels about depression, some people can overcome depression, their stress and social and family pressure always remain. But such a situation will remain as long as you live, so there is no need to increase the stress in yourself by thinking about it.
But some people who cannot overcome it definitely need to follow strategies. So that those people can reduce their responsibilities, they should nurture the pressure of their family within themselves, and keep themselves away from excessive stress

Blame them if they lose their life in the process of remaining silent. Depression can lead to mental disorders, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts. It can make someone lose interest in things they love the most, like their relationships and career. Depressed people need to confide in someone for help and assistance. A man cannot bare he burden of depression alone.

Keeping quiet is not the best solution to survive depression. It has never worked for anyone. It is generally not the best method to deal with depression when the struggles, problems, and emotions are persistent.

Depression has become a part of our society. Life means that sometimes there will be sadness, failure, sadness or mental stress which is a very normal human feeling. You have to try to handle this situation yourself otherwise you will not be able to move forward in life. When it feels like I can't do anything anymore, remind yourself that this is just a mental state, not a permanent truth. Don't underestimate your own ability to overcome the past. There is no need to see the whole path of the future at once. Confidence will not return in a day, but it is slowly rebuilt through small positive habits every day.

We talk too much about it and even social media has made having mental illness as a trendy thing, especially in this younger generation cycle. Some young people now build their online identity on being depressed all because they want some online sympathy and clicks to their page. Another angle is that people also see normal sadness as a medical conditions, life can be hard sometimes and even being broke can lead to loneliness and that's a natural human reaction not always an imbalance in the brain. So by constantly labelling every single bad moment as depression, it looks as though we are making people feel like they are broken beyond repair but just teaching them how to deal with tough and difficult times is more than enough.

Depression has it tolls on the individual himself far beyond the time frame he is infected with that mental illness, sometimes people build depressing lifestyle overtime just like addictions which takes time and consistency of activities to get to that stage of mental shutdown, depression is the last stage of the philosophical mental illness this could result into mental imbalance in the future even after such individual have overcome their depressed stage.

My question is why aren't we talking so much about depression and how to manage and help depressed people?

Well, it's hard to give an accurate reason, but I want to believe it's because of how fast the world is moving, and nobody is thinking of taking a break to reflect on the bigger problems than are either affecting us as Individuals, or affecting the general public as a whole. We're all just too busy doing one thing or the other, or channeling our energy to things that are not even relevant. And again, social media has created an illusion of false relieve, where its contents acts as temporary pain killer to what most people are going through. People now prefer to spend time on different platforms just to inject a fake smile into their faces, rather than meet with an actual person in order to seek for help. I don't know if this applies to everyone going through depression, but I'm certain that a decent number of people rely so much on it just for a temporary relief.

That is why you shouldn't blame anybody that act that way, is it very hard to even make them speak out their problems, we are humans and is really hard to kill off some habits and hiding our problems is one habit that we need to fight against, a problem shared is a problem solved because you have no idea who have the best solution to your problem. I honestly feel for those who started their childhood in a very harsh environment like the family case I used for instance, they are the ones that suffers depression for a longer time more than the others who got it from friends at an adult stage. These set of people don't see life the way some persons sees life, is like the World is cheating then since things are some how against them.

People visit the therapist's office almost every day due to depression. Depressed individuals are not comfortable with depression. I think they have found a solution to get out of depression whenever they feel depressed. Some of them talk to their loved ones about it, others go for their hobby if they can feel better.

There is this thing about some depressed people I don't like. That is, taking drugs, drinking alcohol, or smoking weed. It doesn't stop the depression. It only makes it worse. Sooner or later, the drugs won't be helpful again.

Weed, Marijuana, alcohol and drugs will only make you feel good but doesn't solve the problem because depression is a mental state. . Solutions defers for different people, some just need to talk to a loved or a friend to share what they are going through or the cause of the state they are in and they are fine. While others need to seek professional help from a therapist, psychologist or a psychiatrist. Some others pray about it and also do things they enjoy to get their spark back like exercising, hanging out with friends and any other hobbies they enjoy. Let's support more and judge less .

I think a problem shared is half solved because sharing the problem doesn't automatically bring a solution but might be this first step in finding a solution. Solution to depression differs for different people, some just need encouragement and some need to be distracted with hobbies. Serious depression cases might need professional help and intervention. Depression is the reason why some people become loners and are secluded from friends family and the society and they need all the help they can get..

Depending on who you are sharing your problems with, the thing is it won't just solve the problem but it will give the individual involved that little sign of relief, the burden won't be that heavy on them. Some persons don't like talking instead they stay mute and watch life move pass them like a movie so when they eventually say all they have in their mind you'd see how happy they are, it happens. I agree with you, distractions and all that to keep the mind busy but what then happens if they're alone? It comes up again and the person start feeling down and this also makes some to start smoking and drinking thinking it will make the problem or whatever made them to be depressed go away but it won't.

My question is why aren't we talking so much about depression and how to manage and help depressed people?

Depression is real and many people in the society are facing one challenge or the other. Almost everyone need help because depression don't care about your status. If you are asking why no one is talking about depression, am afraid people are talking about it but how will you know? Anyone who is depressed and needs help should go and see a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist. There are people meant for issues like this.

You're taking it too far, quite seeing you speak from the heart, it's true, and geographically right, but here in Africa, we may have lost every other thing to the westerners, but community. We have a strong community of people, it'll be hard to run out of people to talk to, unless you don't want to talk to anybody. Over here, depressed people stand a great chance of recovery; families, churches, school mates, etc are always there to check up on people, and someday, somehow, you'd see the depressed person starts talking. Funny enough, I once read on paper that the high sunlight in Africa helps to drop the rate of depressed people.
