Threads that don't belong in the gambling section and other shenanigans

That thread is really a Sports discussion and nothing to do with actual gambling.
It happens a lot in the gambling board.

But I'm curious 

Is there a specific board for sports base discussion aside gambling board? I think all sports related topics are being published and discussed in the gambling board? If that's not the case, then a lot of topics do not belong to that board.

I can say more than 80% of posts in the gambling board (gambling discussion to be precised) are not about actual gambling but about different sports and league discussions which are the dominant discussions with high numbers of posts.

There is no dedicated board for sports. There probably should be but it would likely kill both boards. People only post in the Gambling section about Sports because they can easily get paid there but if there was a Sports board then people probably wouldn't post in there much if they can't get paid to do so, especially if it was a sub board of Off topic. If it was in its own section in Other maybe people would still post in there as long as campaigns paid for such but would they? It might just end up being treated like off topic is with most campaigns not paying for posts there.

You have a point there, most of topics there isn't directly related withgambling, but there is close relation as people discussing results of games and talking about upcoming games. While topic about Football stars and career of their children - it's a bit more difficult to relate this topic with gambling.
Maybe sports discussion board would be solution which would make situation a bit better, but somehow I don't believe that theymos is going to make it.

There's a way, but I doubt the admin will consider this. Maybe we could have child boards for sports betting discussions. We could have 3-5 popular sports as child boards. So the hierarchy would be something like this.
Bitcoin Forum > Economy > Marketplace > Gambling > Gambling Discussion > Sports Child Boards A/B/C

I don't think that we need separate child board for every major sport. One child board would be enough IMO

Also, I have another idea. What if we limit the league threads by only allowing 5 to 10 of the strongest/top leagues? We can make the league selection method a bit more objective by using a third party points system like Opta Power Rankings [1]. For leagues outside of the top 5/10, we can merge them into a "Rest of the World Leagues Discussion Thread".

No offense, but this idea doesn't sounds good. Discussing multiple leagues in single topic would be huge mess. And I actually like these separate topics of smaller leagues - it attracts less spammers, unlike topics about major leagues like EPL or La Liga. Mostly people who are genuinely interest about these leagues is posting there.

Actually there is a dedicated topic about rest of the world competitions created by me in the past to avoid seeing side leagues being popping up for several weeks then disappear and all the mess happening around. It is not that active comparing to the other topics and the rules in the OP aren't strictly followed but less spammy than the others.
I converted also UEFA Europa and Conference Leagues topics to self-moderated to reduce the amount of spam and to get reports from people there.
The gambling section could be improved. It requires a lot of efforts from everyone.

Most of the casinos that advertise here have sportsbooks. If they wanted to get traffic, I would think that a specific sports discussion sub-board would be included as one of the paid sections even if it was an Off Topic child board. But then again, campaign rules are inconsistent and don’t always make sense. Posts in the Altcoin discussion section aren’t paid in some campaigns even though most gamblers use altcoins these days.

People see Gambling discussion is full of football topics so they thought it is ok to post any football related bullshit there Gambling discussion should be renamed to Football discussion and the rest.

I think I saw this thread in the gambling section, I wanted to write there, but I did find the thread somehow lacking an interesting conversation, some of this people just creates thread about football all over the place, I’m a huge football fan, some of the topics I’m seeing are totally unnecessary.

I think so, because there are so many discussions going on there about sports related matters. It's just the matter of love for the game. Football is so popular that it out numbers other lovers of other sports. So, we expect such crowd and population showing interest for sports and gambling. Of course, those whole love sports and watch the matches will somehow want to try there luck on games in betting to see if the can be rewarded for there passion, and there's nothing more than that. Members should just try not to abuse the opportunity of freedom to post and comment on any kind of sports they like and in different leagues. Threads on gambling or soccer itself should actually be about sports or gambling and not just any kind of write up that does not represent the true colours of the gambling section or board.

People post sports discussions threads in the gambling section because that is primarily where the sports fans on this forum are. You could make the argument that sports talk isn’t appropriate on a Bitcoin forum, but lots of people have outside discussions here. That is just part of being social in a community setting.

But sports and gambling is actually on the same page, take for instance football sports, people gamble on it and this days we even have more things not even related to sports that people still gamble on.
It will really be much better if a sports board is created in this forum, a lot of discussion in the gambling board are not really meant to be in that board if we should tell ourselves the truth, but I believe since they are actually related that's why it's permitted.

Gambling discussions cannot be made if sporting events are excluded so even if there should be a dedicated thread for sports in the off topics board it will still generate traffic inasmuch as signature campaign makes it mandatory for participants to post there. Except maybe signature campaign managers will use only posts about casino games as the criteria to pay their campaign participants but then, in that case, sports discussions and thread will begin to diminish.

The forum is more harshly moderated now than at any point in the nearly 12 years that I’ve been here. This place was always about free speech and anti authority.

Whilst I think there has to be a level of rule, we have to be careful that this forum doesn’t turn out like every other one I’ve been on since the mid 90’s.

It will not be an attractive place for people to be if this forum goes down a certain path.

I don't think it matters where the SEO stamping is done. The way I understand it, casinos are paying for the mass aggregate of fresh impressions, as the signatures will be viewed at a minimum by anyone looking to write their next post. In the past, signatures were about getting clicks, but its no longer about that. Its about rote impression count to help a casino's SEO strength. This is what led to the gradual return of rewarding quantity over quality.

My main point is campaigns should just pay for posts in any section, including Off-Topic. Its a net negative to force people who know nothing about gambling and don't care about it to make x amount of posts a week in that section. I'm not sure its even beneficial to the client.

Perhaps I resonate with this, but however the concept of the gambling post is thus on the basis of advertisers being casinos or gambling companies hence fueling the gambling industry is what they look at but perhaps since views and social impressions is the target this days, all boards can provide that than stocking up with a particular board leading to garbage collections of threads.
Perhaps, I get pissed off a lot of times with some things or post I see in the gambling board, even though they are gambling related and still remain valid discussion but it’s always obvious that they are bullish and made only for counting purposes and not a create a genuine discussion or argument.

And the problem is?
If they want to get paid for posting in gambling, they should post about gambling, not copy-paste two lines of text from a match event and disguise that sports gossip as gambling.
It wll be up to the casinos and the campaign managers to decide, do they want to pay for that so the spamm users will keep posting or they will not and finally, someone who doesn't have a clue if Girona is a Spanish or German team for example, can finally stop showering us with his knowledge

I've been around much shorter than you so I don't know how it was in those early days, but during my time here, I haven't noticed forum being more harshly moderated than before. If anything, moderation seems to me more lenient.

They are "forcing" it once you apply for that campaign, which has some requirements and you get accepted.
It's exactly as a job, if a job requires you to work half of the weekends from 8pm to 8 am you can still apply and do it or in case you know you're not capable of doing, well, you don't!
What is some casino finds out that whatever seo score x, page views that ... technical and miningshave the best scores and forces people to do 5 posts in those sections also?
As much as I would laugh my ass off the first few weeks, it will become a disaster soon.

I still think we need to focus first on the forum, then on accommodating posters.
