Do you bet and watch Northern European football championships?

Most football fans follow the top European leagues. But Northern European football championships are also interesting in their own way. Among them, the following stand out:

Sweden: Allsvenskan
Norway: Eliteserien
Denmark: Superligaen
Finland: Veikkausliiga
Island: Besta deild karla
Faroe Islands: Meistaradeildin

Most of these championships are held on a spring-autumn schedule due to weather conditions (only Denmark and the Faroe Islands use the autumn-spring schedule). Some teams are well-known to a wide range of fans for their participation in the Champions League, such as Bodo/Glimt.

If there are any fans of these championships, I suggest discussing the results of teams from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands in this thread.

If truth be told, I don't bet on or watch the northern Europe championships, infact I don't even know if such football tournament exists in the first place, I'm just hearing about it for the first time, because I'm more focused on betting on and watching the popular football competitions.

Now that you have brought it to my attention I will check it out, to see if it is worth watching. Because I'm not familiar with the national teams from those countries.

The only country I have I have bet on their leagues before among the ones that you mentioned is Norway. I do not know much about the other ones, but probably I could have bet on one or two among them before long time ago. I do not bet like I was betting some years back after I am occupied with other things.

I don't watch small leagues but big leagues because I don't have the time. I'm cool with the big five leagues because I don't have even watch all the matches. I don't offen watch Ligue 1 and Bundesliga. I focus more on EPL, Laliga and Seria A. We all have our area of interest in football. I can only watch these teams if they make it to the Champions League group stage.

I read this whole list several time. But apart from few clubs, I don't know any of them. This is first time I saw the names of these club. I am somewhat familiar with Bodo/Glimt, Vikings and Malmo.

Main reason why these leagues are not so well known is that they don't have such strong squad. You can only see star and first class players in Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. All clubs in these leagues are strong, so these leagues are also quite busy and exciting. Since the matches outside these leagues are not so exciting, I didn't feel need to watch them at all, let alone bet on them.

It wouldn't be a good one to say I haven't heard about this league, because I have definitely have and it's great. But the reason I don't love engaging them in my betting things is because I am not that familiar with it and this makes it so hard for me to analyze or even to predict their matches since I am not that conversant with them. Although it's a nice league and someone that put in more time in it will definitely get used to it. Maybe this thread will be a reminder to other users that there's such league that we aren't paying much attention to. Good one op.

Although I'm not familiar with these leagues either, I don't think the same as you when you explain the argument that it makes it hard for you to predict their matches. Odds are calculated in a way that your chances of winning or losing in the long term don't depend so much on your analysis, so chances are that you would have better luck betting in these leagues than in the one you know best.

For me, the reason I haven't had much interest in them so far is that I enjoy more betting on matches I plan to watch, but seeing this thread perhaps from now on I will like to see some of these matches, and in that case I may bet.

There's a reason you don't know them. We have always sucked at football (not sure why) and few players that stand out (Litmanen for example) rather just moves to somewhere where their talents are more monetarily appreciated.

If i had to guess the reason, it's that people in here are more in to ice hockey so that gets way more support from fans and government. And players can make an actual living from it.

If there are no interesting matches in the major European leagues, I usually turn to these Scandinavian leagues. Scandinavian leagues have a unique characteristic, they typically produce a high number of goals in almost every match. Suitable for bettors who usually bet on the 'over'.

I’m not really in favor of discussing match results in this thread, it would be better to have separate threads for each league to keep the discussion more focused. From six leagues you mentioned, most people only like three of them, Allsvenskan, Eliteserien & Superligaen.

I don’t really follow up this leagues much as I do follow up major European leagues  because am familiar mostly with the teams from EPL, Serie A and La Liga. But won’t at the matches aren’t interesting cause of less popularity. Once time is being dedicated for this leagues getting to understand the teams, you find a god matches to watch. But for me I would understand the team first before I decide to bet on them.

I also went through the whole list, and the only one that felt familiar to me was "Sirius", and it was not even sport-related, but because he is an important figure here in bitcointalk.

Aside from that, the other names are very foreign to me; maybe I might know them one way or another, but currently none of them is ringing any bells for me, and I don't think I have ever picked them, too, even when I am running a random parlay and picking different games just to bulk up the ticket.

I don't watch their games but I think I know almost all the teams in those leagues because I bet on them regularly. Some of the reasons why I bet on this league especially the Norway league is because they have a good ratio of goal scoring and almost all the games play out an over 2.5 goals, so it's always a good spot to select games for betting. Among all, I feel the Danish League is probably the one I have played the most bets on, teams like Copenhagen made me win some big cash a few years back when they were still in good form.

This is the same thought I was having.
The most I have looked into is Asian leagues. And I didn’t do that keenly it was because a player from my country chose to play there rather than someplace else.
There are still so many unknown and not popular leagues. All they need is good sponsorship and they will grow in popularity.

I don't really gamble on Norwegian Leagues but Bodø/Glimt became very popular as they managed to qualify for last season's champions League, but were eliminated by Sporting CP in the round of 16. This time around, they have succeeded through the qualifying stage and now they're in the play offs (leg 2 of 2). They still have a better advantage to feature in the UCL and sell out the league eve further.

I guess this post topic would need to be changed, if the intention is to make it a regular discussion thread for these European championships.
I know of Bodo/Glimt in the Champions league and have bet on them losing to their opponents a few times during most of my bets, but not in this season though because the UCL is yet to commence.
As for betting on these European football championships teams during my bets, I may have picked one or two unknowingly because I bet anytime I feel like and it could fall during the start of their league season, not minding if the EPL or UCL is on.

I rarely bet on these leagues, and the few times that i've had them on my slip were only because I needed them to boost the odds.

Sometimes I tail bettors who know their stuff on other european leagues, but they mostly cover the popular ones and would only touch the others when there's nothing on the slate for the week.
