What do you think Bitcoin will look like in 10 years?

Bitcoin has been around for quite a while now and has already gone through several cycles.

Some people see it mainly as digital gold, while others believe it could become much more than that.

I'm curious how people here see Bitcoin evolving over the next 10 years.

Will it remain mostly a store of value, or do you think we'll see new use cases develop over time?

Bro the store of value case has already won the contest and you should not doubt it so ten years from now this part is not in the question.

What else it can grow into besides people only using it for long term investment due to its scarcity, they can't really use it all as payment system due to the scalability problem but there are L2 solutions if they all learned that.

There will be some use cases that we have not thought of yet, it depends on who is using it for which purpose, payments, holdings, backups to issue new tokens, etc. is happening already but besides this I can't say for sure what more can happen.

Bitcoin technology is an invention in this new era of technology, and as time passes by, different means of using such advance technology will continue to emerge which will see Bitcoin being used for other purposes asides for being a store of value to the people. Bitcoin has been in existence for over a decade now and it is only advancing to become better than it was every single year passing by. If bitcoin keeps us with this pace and never faces any retrogression as it hasn’t since inception, it will become a more stable currency than it has always been in 10 years from now.

Even in ten years to come I don't think government will still have the power to control Bitcoin or make Bitcoin to turn to central currency which is the wish of some government that came across Bitcoin. In ten years to come Bitcoin will remain in store value and government will not have such unity to control the price of Bitcoin than to allow their citizens to get connected to Bitcoin.

As regards Bitcoin the protocol in my mind the big one on the horizon is Quantum computing and I
believe the Bitcoin developers will have that "coded in" by the time it vaguely becomes a real threat.

In terms of Bitcoiners and people who adopt or get involved in some way, we should definitely see
more people coming to it as the FIAT system gets more and more dire and their wealth gets even
more watered down. . . and we all know what greater adoption means. . .

Currently, apart from storing value, it is also being used as an international transaction and payment medium, and this use may increase further in the future. When it comes to Bitcoin's future use case, we would not confuse Bitcoin with stablecoin. There is no denying that stablecoin payment and settlement are currently making rapid progress. But its monetary property have never been and never will be like Bitcoin's. I would rather say that stablecoin are essentially digital representation of fiat.

However, I am starting to think that Bitcoin's most important role next 10 year may not be as everyday coffee payment. Rather we can see it more as base asset for global collateral, longterm saving, censorship resistant settlement, and higher layer payment infrastructures like Lightning.

The only innovation that can beat bitcoin is the one that will be purely decentralized and there will be no Centralized Exchanges and the transaction fee will very minimal. Bitcoin will be in much better position, ten years from here on and I am saying this by keeping in mind the progress of Bitcoin from its inception till date. Apart from individuals, today institutes are also investing in Bitcoin and this is the main reason why we saw Bitcoin at $120,000. I will leave my comment here that ten years from today Bitcoin price will be at $500,000+ and I am leaving this note for people reading today but for people who will read this thread after 10 years.

Bitcoin is the best money that man has created and because it's still in her early stage, the chance of bitcoin price is moving uptrend is higher than moving downtrend because more and more people will continue to adopt bitcoin overtime. As for the security aspects, the devs will take care of that just as they have been doing till date. Bitcoin will remain a store of value overtime and will gain more people confidence because Fiat is a trap to poverty if you hold it for long.

What do you mean by saying that we may see new cases develop over time? There can't be new use cases, Bitcoin can only be used the way it has been designed for, but you could say that people may start using it more as a payment method than a store of value or an investment asset, because currently, the majority of people or even institutions that are into Bitcoin are mostly using it as an investment asset to make money from it, but this may change within the next decade or so.

My gut feelings say otherwise though, I believe Bitcoin will keep dominating mostly as an investment asset and a store of value more than a payment method, which was what it was originally created for, but nowadays people barely care about decentralization or financial privacy, all they care about is how they can make more and more money and as quickly as possible, which has also become the reason for Bitcoin gaining so much fame and popularity in such a short period, because if Bitcoin wasn't volatile and has the possibility of providing people with profits over time, we might not have as much adoption as we have today.

In the next 10 years, bitcoin would have achieved a lot of growth, far more than what we have today, and the thing about the next ten years is that it is sooner than we may think. The present use case of Bitcoin is that many people see it as a store of value and are taking advantage of the opportunity to invest in it but as time goes on that opportunity to invest and make proper profit from it will reduce and the original use case that the creator of Bitcoin had intention for will now almost become practical that is people now using Bitcoin for everyday transactions from one side of the world to another or even within their own immediate country.

Well, for me I expect to see a more matured lightning infrastructure coupled with better privacy tools, improved multisig and custody solutions. Generally, just good and genuine improvements, the network is already matured but it can always be better. For price, I expect it to be more valuable obviously and I see more and more people eventually become aware of it.

Another thing that comes to mind is quantum computing, with the rate at which technology is improving, I expect Bitcoin to adopt a post quantum cryptography scheme in the next 10 years to protect its signature and funds. This mighy not necessarily change it’s fundamental principle but we can expect it develop new quantum resistant ways of signing transactions and giving users a way to migrate their coins before the existing cryptography becomes vulnerable

This discussion have happened here in this forum many times. However, in the next 10 years bitcoin will continue to be a store of value because what ever amount of bitcoin you own will still remain in its value whether the price increases or not but the target should be to hold till the next 10 years. The next 10 years should be 3 halving events and going by historical price performance of bitcoin during and after halving, you should be able to envision what the price of where the price of bitcoin could get to in the next decade.

Going back to 10 years ago, the price of bitcoin was around $975 and it grew high to the current ATH, relate same move in the next 10 years and see what the price will be. Bitcoin will continue to be a store of value till almost all supply has been mined.

Well Bitcoin isn't controlled by any single person, so for that whenever there is a newly proposed upgrade, the network's consensus must be reached before it can be implemented. I think in most cases if the feature doesn't align with something decentralized, Bitcoin will only keep increasing in adoption not evolution but that's not something we can predict with just thoughts or perspectives alone....

Though I believe there would be several cases of minor adjustments that would make utility more formidable, I don't know about others but for me I think Bitcoin will evolve not only technically, but also fundamentally and in its appearance, because the future of Bitcoin holds more than we can predict even before Bitcoin reaches that 10 years, we would probably be seeing a global scale of untold potential, that would impact both the system and we the users. Right now we can all agree that the technology is at its peak still, it's only been 17 years so we just got to expect the unexpected when it comes to Bitcoin evolution. That's all.....

Hmm, 1 vMb block every 10 minutes, miners complaining about the earnings, people concerned about scalability, one fork every 2-3 years attempting to fix something and getting rejected, and of course, the same debate if it's money or a commodity, as well as the other non-ending debate, is it better than gold or not?

We had all these 10 years ago, we're going to have them in 10 years also, one strength Bitcoin had is that it resisted change, with it's good parts and downsides also, so we're stuck on this path till forever.

Well, for me I expect to see a more matured lightning infrastructure coupled with better privacy tools, improved multisig and custody solutions.

LN is 8 years old, it should have been mature by now, the fact that it's still seen as a curiosity right now by most users it's a sign it won't do much in the next 8 years either.
