As a beginner should you first learn the basics of Bitcoin security before using self custody or to use a wallet and be learning along is better ?

And to those that have being using Bitcoin over the years. What is that one thing you wish you understand about wallet security before you start the journey.

Wallet usage isn't that complex to understand, it is something that can be taught in a day and possibly someone can assist you navigate it for the first time and then allow you to find your way around it if as a newbie you want to Hold some Bitcoin first before learning about it. for the sake of opportunity, you can choose to stack some Bitcoin first with some very basic preliminary knowledge before you go ahead to getting an in-depth insight into what is applicable with Bitcoin and how it works, with the knowledge of wallet and other basics around Bitcoin.

choosing to learn and understand Bitcoin first before ever stacking some units isn't bad either, the truth remains that whichever way works for you, you can choose to follow through that way, non of the the above ways proves to be better than the other except that with one you may get lucky to bee on a bullish opportunity but then that could be some subtle FOMO even before you start the journey, personally i always advise you understand whatever it is you are going into first before you venture into it, because it gives you the edge you wouldn't have ordinarily if you had to start without basic knowledge, you may also get to avoid certain mistakes by getting those basics first.

Having just a Bitcoin wallet does not mean that a person knows what he is actually doing, anybody can have a Bitcoin wallet without knowing any single thing about it, the different between someone that knows what he is doing and some who just have the wallet is that the one who understands already knows the risks attached and the safety to protect his wallet from being scammed or hacked and how to store his seed phrases, a person who just have a wallet might not even know what a seed phrase is and how sensitive it is to avoid other eyes from seeing it. So some basic knowledge is very important before getting a Bitcoin wallet, because with the knowledge you can praticalize with it from what you know.

First of all, a beginner should learn the basics of Bitcoin security before thinking about how to use a wallet, this is why knowledge is important before getting into crypto. A lot of beginners that didn't learn about exchanges and wallets well enough got scammed at some point in their journey of investing in cryptocurrency. Trying to rush the process can be very damaging in the long run. Personally, I learnt everything that I had to know thanks to forum, wallet security was something I understood, securing of seed phrases and backing them up, all of these are things I learnt from being actively involved In the forum.

I think it is improper of anyone to want to have a wallet without understanding one or two thing. You must know to send and how to receive, even if you don't much about Bitcoin, you are going to know more about those one or two things and importantly, the seed phrase. I don't think a person that has Bitcoin will say they don't know seed phrase, it's the house that hold your coins together, if you lose it you have lose all your Bitcoin except person that loves to use centralized exchanges.

It's better to learn about scams and how to lose Bitcoin as a beginner than knowing much things that are going down with Bitcoin. If you learn about it, you will rarely have hard times fighting scammers. Even the hack that people are talking about, it about seed phrase issue with entropy. If you learn how passphrase, seed phrase work, you will not have any problem with scammers and your wallet.

Learning the basic is really important most especially on how to send, receive and also how to protect seed phrase also. And again I won’t say that anybody who holds Bitcoin must have to understand seed phrases, this because you can hold Bitcoin through custodial exchange without having to even handle one.

But for someone using self custody you will have to understand seed phrase cause it very much important, because if you don’t understand the part that you need to keep it safe and avoid exposing it. Because if expose it may lead to loss of access to your funds. This are the reasons why beginners should understand the basic security risk before Dey go ahead in putting in money in their wallet.

I believe that beginners are supposed to first learn the basic security of bitcoin before keeping large amount for self custody. You don’t need to understand everything before you start, but you should at least know the important of seed phrase, why you must not  share your private keys. You can learn more as you’re using the wallet but starting without any security knowledge can make you lose everything.

So having bitcoin wallet doesn’t mean that one must understand self custody. Self custody has to do with responsibility because you are the one controlling your funds and it’s you that will bear the consequences if anything happens.

As a beginner, bitcoin security is not the primary knowledge you need, except if you want to do a huge lump sum that is where it will become important to know about bitcoin security before you invest but for someone who wants to be investing a small amount using the DCA method, learning about bitcoin security should be done while you have already started investing.

I wish i understood about the vulnerability in leaving my bitcoin in an exchange wallet because that was where i stored my bitcoins when i was a newbie but after i got the awareness of self custody wallets, i no longer leave my bitcoins in an exchange wallet.

If beginners learn basic things about bitcoin security before step in with a large amount of bitcoin into a personal wallet is a good approach, there’s no need for beginners to understand everything before investing, but just try to understand how important the seed phrase and private keys are to your bitcoin wallet.

My believe is that, as investors you learn a lot by using wallets, there’s certain things that even if you search for it you can see it and read it, but to understand it more until you put it into practice by using the wallet. And one thing I also advise is seed phrase is something private that if you lose it, there may no way to recover it, it always keeps private, nobody shere it with anybody.
