Is there really need to know operate the linux OS for learning blockchain dev?

I was searching for a good roadmap to learn about the blockchain development but in most of the case what observer there is also mention Linux command line in the front line, So my question is do I need the Linux environment for learning the blockchain development ? What is the exact connection between the Linux and blockchain development?
And also another question is-
If I learn blockchain learning now, will it be worth it?

Software projects that do not target a specific operating system such as Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, etc. are generally developed in a Linux development environment.

If you need to run your or any application on server, you can't really avoid using linux and terminal, unless the appplication support windows and you're willing to pay premium for windows server.

Can you be more specific. For example, worth it for what? Getting a well-paid job? Getting a remote job? Expand your knowledge/skill? Something else?

A simple analogy: Learning blockchain without Linux is like learning to be a car mechanic without ever opening the hood. It can be done but limited.

And your question is incomplete, try to explain to the blockchain part of it what you want to learn?
Because learning Blockchain is there are things without using Linux such as:

• Frontend Web3
• DApp Development
• Wallet App

While what is certain to use Linux is such as:

• Blockchain node
• Lightning Network
• DevOps & Automation
• Electrum server, etc

I think it is very hard to become a developer in anything without having at least some Linux experience.

Basically all developer tools are designed around the command Line, and linux is the targeted environment by most developers. You will have to get used to work with Linux terminal and command line if you plan to become a developer.

MacOS is linux-based terminal, windows WSL is also linux based, so will be able to get used to it even without using linux directly, at least in the beginning

Well it is less about when, and more of which lane you choose: “Blockchain dev' isnt just one ability, it is actually multiple tracks, such as frontend/dapp development track, node/infrastructure development track, wallet development track…”, AakZaki explains in his breakdown.

There is not enough demand to support the amount of frontend/DApp work, with too many bootcamp grads chasing a few junior Solidity/Web3 jobs available. I would say that infra-side (running nodes, Lightning, DevOps automation) work has far less competition simply because it requires the background most beginners skip with Linux/systems itself, which is why the core point of this thread is important, as the hard road is the less crowded road to take.

So it is not “will blockchain be worth it in 2026” as much as “which part of blockchain” – it varies a lot dependent on that.
