Since this isn’t just an ordinary price movement, what do you think is driving it?

Based on the five polls above, if you had to choose, what would your answer be?
The Clarity Act could be a factor driving the price up to $80,000, and to be honest, I don’t really care about any of that. I’m just smiling at the current price increase.

Unpopular opinion: Bitcoin hits $80,000 because the price decreased this year.

It's only 20% higher than it was 1750+ days ago.

The denominator (USD) has been going worthless all along.

The price has been simply suppressed and we are long overdue for a proper upside repricing.

CLARITY ACT that has not been passed can not cause increase in bitcoin price

What that caused the increase bitcoin price is debt buyback announcement of the United States. There have been many threads that this has been discussed about.

Immediately after the announcement, the price of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies started to increase.

These are actually good points.
Still, the market rarely reflects true value but a mix, including some true value, lots of speculation based on real and fake news etc.

Regarding your statement about USD losing value: 100% true - it would be very cool to have a BTC price chart showing its real purchasing power over time.
The closest thing to that I found is this: https://www.samara-ag.com/bitcoin-cpi

what is driving this rally?

In my opinion, I think different factors must have acted as the catalyst which made price to pump the way it did, from your poll, there's no way I can pick just one option as the only factor that influenced the price of Bitcoin meanwhile all of these things just happened in the same period, that's why the price even showed the significant move, if it was just one factor that influenced the price, then we would not have seen such big move. I do believe that the huge amount of money that was liquidated from short position traders, the weakened dollar,  huge accumulation of more Bitcoin by investor, and the others factors contributed to the move we saw.

The Clarity Act could be a factor driving the price up to $80,000, and to be honest, I don’t really care about any of that. I’m just smiling at the current price increase.

Smile is on faces of people who have taken advantage of opportunity when price went down to $62,000. It was expected from Bitcoin to go up in price after remaining down for many weeks. This is also a lesson for those who talk negative things about Bitcoin when its price goes down because that is the best time to fill your bags with Bitcoin. Many people are now regretting that why they didn't bought Bitcoin when price was $62,000 and if they are serious then they must remain ready for next dip because Bitcoin keep giving opportunities to buy.

What happened to Bitcoin price is not a new thing I mean it has been happening for years now and this is also a normal market behavior that is, if you do trade or read the market charts. Once market ranges or consolidate for a particular price in a given period of time that is under support and resistance, once it breaks the support or resistance level the momentum will be very high and that was what happened to Bitcoin buyers took control and break the structure which causes the massive push or rally.

The CLARITY Act is just buy the rumor and when it's passed that's probably a sell the news event which may happen middle of the month by September. There are just too many factors that drives this price to where it is now but I think it's just a usual move when the market is speculating something huge to happen.

Code:
Massive short liquidations
I wonder why this one is in the poll? Of course, shorts liquidation will be present because it's longing. I don't think that should be on the choices listed above as it's only natural shorts is getting liquidated when there's a bullish event.

See, the only reason why the price of Bitcoin has not increased based on this is that the pressure to buy Bitcoin plays the most effective role in the current price being higher. And there is a more unique reason why it has a role, but it is not a permanent price increase due to the current Bitcoin price increase.
At any time, the price of Bitcoin can return to its previous level again, but I do not only consider the price of Bitcoin, but I have focused more on buying Bitcoin and holding my Bitcoin tightly.

I will mostly go for the CFTC AND SEC cryptocurrency regulatory framework; I have also heard several people talking about the same thing. The Clarity Act is another thing we must see as behind why the market seems to be more volatile, because as they plan to hold a meeting, no one knows what the outcome might be, and that is why several people are expectant to see whether such a meeting could be a reason to either push the market upward or draw it downward.

I don’t even understand why someone thinks this isn’t an ordinary price movement, the time I’m writing this post we are now having $79k which is why I’m not surprised by anything, I’m expecting it to go above 80k it should be approaching $100k so I can be smiling as well.

Well I don’t really have much interest in the so called pool, I’m more interested in the price of bitcoin going up, it would surely come with excitement.

I think the Clarity Act could be a factor as well, it could be something that is being pushed my Donald Trump, we have always had the impression that somethings Trump does could be having effects on the price of Bitcoin.

It could be different factors as well.

Exactly the point, there is no way we can accept one reason or factor to be responsible as the catalyst which has caused this pump and I doubt, it is no longer new that alot are already happening and considering one factor could only mean how much we don't really understand what's happening around Bitcoin environment, picking one factor is more like pretending that other things happening are not relevant and which is not true, as far as am concerned, everything happening is very important and relevant as to that which contributed to the pump.

Yea I want to click a few of those poll options.

Is the market move upwards natural/normal - yea - for the Bitcoin market it is normal, its happened
hundreds if not thousands of times before.

But it rarely keeps going without some sort or "correction" I hate that term, what market price is correct
at any given time?
, anyway yea I expect a pull back but as to when or at what mark - havent a clue!

To me this is not just a usual price move, what is driving this rally?
This is actually one of the most common "jumps" in bitcoin history and if you zoom out you'll see many of them in the past 17 years. Each time we enter a sideways accumulation market and get stuck there for a long time, we always see it be followed by a big jump like this. By all standards this was a very mild FOMO buy too.

A good example would be April 2025. Price was stuck in a sideways market and accumulation went up for about 2 months while price was stuck in the $80k range. Then on April 21, 2025 the price started breaking out and in a little more than a week it reached $98k.
Then there was a panic sell correction where price dropped real fast about $5k but the rally continued and by July we had the ATH at $120k+.

It's the same usual thing here too.
Price was stuck in $65k range for months.
The jump was sudden and in a little more than a week it reached $80k+.
Now we have a small panic sell correction.
Next? Maybe we see the rally continue and set a new ATH before the year ends. This time somewhere in $150k to $200k?

What is the reason(s) for this rally?
Increased adoption!
Some events acted as catalyst too. In my opinion the US debt smashing through $40 trillion was a strong catalyst itself. A lot more people lost faith in fiat after that...

It’s indeed common from the stats you’ve provided and I wouldn’t see it for nothing out of the ordinary but, the Bitcoin market movement.

Could it really be all that can attribute this recent pump of Bitcoin to? I really do think we had a fair adoption rate previously to this time and yet, the market did stale for a long time. I wouldn’t want to say it’s anything out of the ordinary but perhaps, people or investors have gotten exhausted in their attempt to further dump the market in search of a buy in.

After Trump talked about the Clarity Act fair decisions and that US citizens should start buying bitcoin because the US government is also planning to buy more bitcoin. He also said that the market will pump beyond their expectations and that was when I started seeing this pump from $65k to this current price.

People started to buy out of FOMO couple with the weakness in the US dollar which has made a lot of investors lose trust in the dollar. The US new highest debt is also a catalyst.

The reason is always the same.

There are more buyers than the sellers.

Why do people started to want bitcoin?

That's the real question. What do they know? Few days ago not many people wanted bitcoin, now again everybody wants it.

The other explanation is, somebody wants us to think that way. Maybe it is a market manipulation... In any case, as long as your risk levels are manageable, there is nothing to worry about.

OP, if you look at the liquidation cascades we had the last days, weeks and month, both bullish and bearish, with some even hitting new record highs for a single day, it seems clear that market makers on/and big exchanges were hunting leveraged trades to bring in huge profits for them and the exchanges.  Tongue  Im sure, we are still in a bear market,...  Wink and this current rally atm seems to be just a bull trap. I strongly believe we will drop below ~$40k USD before or till october. *finger-crossed*  Cheesy
