Have any of you use this feature in any of your capable bitcoin Lightning wallet?



If yes, how does this works?

I don't see a lot of people talking about receiving Bitcoin with just a Lightning Username.
Have you tried it? It's a wonderful feature if it actually works don't you think?

I'm also thinking 🤔, people who don't want to expose themselves in their business as someone who accepts Bitcoin payments in the eye of the public, this can be useful? Instead of address it will be username, something about this feels more privacy?

This has been around for quite sometime actually and it's called lightning address:

The whole point from it is for you to stop generating invoices every single time, or requesting them. As you can see from the link above, many wallets support this

Lightning usernames, no.

Because usernames are very bad for privacy. I even don't use address whitelisting and labels on centralized exchanges because of the same privacy concerns. You can join a centralized exchanges with KYC or without KYC, if it is KYC, it's bad for privacy but if you proactively label addresses where you withdrawn your coins to, it's worse for privacy and transaction history by adding extra information for the exchanges.

No, your region should not matter to use this feature but this is mainly used in lightning network wallets, not wallets that only support bitcoin or centralized exchanges. Which wallet  are you using?

I’m actually using a trust wallet, but I have seen bluewallet amount the list now which I have as well, I didn’t not see it the first glance at the list. It seems to support only open source wallet if I guess right and I’m not mistaking.

To send or receive bitcoin, We have to create a bitcoin wallet. There is a seed phrase in which we can access the wallet. If someone wants to send bitcoin to the address of that wallet,  just send it with the bitcoin amount of that wallet address.  I am familiar with this.

but what is the bitcoin Lightning wallet that is being talked about here?
Is this wallet different from the normal wallet that I am using, like Electrum?
If the bitcoin network is the same, then what is the use of this kind of difference in the wallet?
And in the case of business transactions, wallet to wallet transactions can be done, why is the use of a different wallet being talked about here?

I actually tried it years ago and haven't since -- many new wallets and features now even on the one I'm using (Electrum) but generally don't find a need for it myself.

Why did I feel like this is more Centralised? Because you just labeled who you are to that wallet address unless you are someone who is one but many, someone who is capable of having multiple identity.

Someone who can be John on his national ID and be Ezekiel on their LN username, still I don't feel it's necessary, don't expect this to enhance privacy thing, you thought it all wrong.

If you want true privacy there are many altcoins for that, one even have a feature where you can message others like P2P platforms where no data is been stored anywhere.

Same here, I've never come across this feature in every single crypto wallets that I have used in the past or ever used until I installed cake wallet, right now cake wallet is the only wallet that has the feature that I know.

This was what prompt me to create this topic in the first place.

I recall that such services have been around since 2020, so they're not new. Interest in LN has waned since Bitcoin transaction fees decreased. The only reason for using it is the speed of transaction completion compared to the average of 10 minutes. It also doesn't offer higher privacy compared to a Bitcoin address, as EMAIL addresses can be reused.

It's a no-kyc virtual card, but to even try out how it works you would have to pay for one year of use in advance. I don't know if you've ever used an LN wallet, but it's not as simple as it seems at first glance. Phoenix wallet is relatively simple because it is more or less automatic. I only used it for sending, but if you download that wallet and look under Settings -> Experimental you can generate your LN address which you can send me via PM and I will try to send you the transaction.

Maybe you already have an LN address generated in another wallet?

It's possible that there are gift card providers, without KYC, and with support for Lightning Network.

I am not sure because with stricter AML and KYC regulations and enforcement, many market places shut down recent years but if want to find something possible, this topic has a good list to start with.

For two years, I offered free LNaddresses on my domain to anyone interested using this setup: https://github.com/believethehype/nostdress. However, over those two years, I didn't receive a single request for an LNaddress. So you are right: it really is an unpopular feature. But personally, when given the choice between paying via invoice, LNURL, or LNaddress, I prefer LNaddress. Before making the payment, it allows you to visually double-check right away whether you are sending sats to the intended destination or if something went wrong along the way.

It's easier that way it's a great thing instead of having an actual LN address that is hard to remember. Buy a domain, set up an LN server, connect.

It's nothing new, sending satoshis to usernames that link to a bitcoin address. It's mostly dependent on wallets and so 2 person using the same wallet can use this feature.
It has been there since a long time and may be now they have started this on lightning wallets too.
Good to see this though, but still not sure if people are actually willing to use this feature.
I have never used this feature and probably won't ever use it too.
