On a Linux Bitcoin Core there is no $HOME/.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf
Where can I find an example one to set up specific items for this bitcoin node I have setup?

Are you talking about the forum search engine?
If so, it's always better to use Google and add site:bitcointalk.org to the search.

Are you talking about the forum search engine?
If so, it's always better to use Google and add site:bitcointalk.org to the search.

I believe he is referring to Linux, where he is attempting to search for the Bitcoin.conf file, rather than the forum search feature.
He maybe can't find that file through find command.


@OP I think you can't find it if the Bitcoin.conf file is not actually exist.

Try creating a bitcoin.conf file you can generate one from this link below

If you still can't find it, would you mind to try finding the bitcoin.conf file on the Bitcoin Core GUI under settings> Option and then "Open Configuration File".

The configuration file is not automatically created; you can create it using your favorite text editor. By default, the configuration file name is bitcoin.conf and it is located in the Bitcoin data directory,

For other reader, Bitcoin data directory means location where you store Bitcoin blockchain data/files.

Sometimes the writing of users is hard to interpret and we interpret it depending on our own backgrounds. If the implication is that he is able to search for that file on Linux, then my reasonable assumption is that he is able to create the file on his own where appropriate. In the follow up question he is asking for examples, and therefore with this basic linux knowledge he was just missing the contents of such a file. With the links that everyone has provided he should be good to go. I have always wondered why Bitcoin Core refuses to make an example bitcoin.conf file be generated on the first run with some main options commented out and with descriptions for how they can be used. Not doing this does not benefit anyone and doing this would have spared us many of these questions over the years across many platforms.

If you've downloaded the tarball from bitcoin core's website,
there should be a sample 713-line bitcoin.conf in it that contains instructions and commented configs with explanations of what can it do.
Just extract it and you'll find the sample conf inside "bitcoin-31.0" dir where you extracted the file.

Just uncomment the ones that you need.
Of course, that file wont work if it's left there instead of moving it to your datadir.

Awesome, Thanks to all who responded with links and tips. I honestly didn't think about looking in the source/distro Doh!!!
For the search item, yes I was referring to the forum's search which maybe just a bug or perhaps it doesn't like Chrome. If I simply put in bitcoin.conf
I get an immediate response in a dialog box on the page stating "An Error Has Occurred"  and within that boxed area it states: "You are searching too quickly. Wait 90 seconds. (There is a Google-based search engine on the search page that does not have this limit.)"  Which is interesting because it seems to work for some other words, like "config" which returns no results found so interesting.

When I google for it I get hits for the Ghub repository's item, but as someone mentioned it doesn't illustrate the various options at all, so.

But all is well. I was just trying to limit the number of connections to my Bitcoin Core server as it seems like I have upwards of 50 at a time, which is all fine and dandy but I'd rather not use my entire 1Gb connection just for that lol...

About that, it's affected by your current rank's restrictions.
Since you have zero activity at that time, you'll have to wait quite a bit before using the search feature right after you post or do something that counts towards that limit.

Here's a reference:

Logging in, sending PMs, searching via the forum's built in search engine and reporting posts to a moderator will also be counted as posting and extend this limit back to 360 seconds. Don't worry: as your activity increases, the 360 second limit will decrease as well.
