Precautionary saving is simply a financial method where someone sets money aside for an unexpected event in the future instead of spending it immediately.

A few days ago, I heard my workmate complaining to someone else about how her boyfriend refuses to spend on what they need right now. She went on to say he covers the basic needs but won't take them out on frequent dates, shop for clothes, or other enticing expenses on finer things, but she is aware of how much he earns monthly, and it's enough to cover all these expenses.

She ended it by saying, The boyfriend prefers to save more than what he is supposed to save. And that brought my mind to precautionary saving because I remember that was the reason my in-laws divorced in their marriage, the same reason I want to end the relationship with my boyfriend.

Is this right to do? Women in the house, will you pick a man who saves for the future of you and him, or a man who will rather spend everything on you, forgetting about the future?

I would personally prefer a man who saves money, and I actually did choose someone like that. But of course there is a limit to everything. I don’t like stingy people, and I probably wouldn’t choose a stingy partner either.

Of course, going on dates is important, especially if there are no children or other major responsibilities in the picture. But that doesn’t mean you have to go to expensive or luxury places all the time. I personally enjoy shopping and spending money on nicer things, while my partner is the complete opposite. He doesn’t really like spending money in general, but when it comes to buying me a gift or going on a holiday, he doesn’t hesitate to spend. The same goes for things we need for our home. He sometimes tries to choose the cheaper option, while I tend to lean towards the more premium one.

I think most women probably wouldn’t want a stingy man, but being financially responsible and saving for the future is also very important. having at least one person in the relationship who is good with money is really important. Otherwise, saving and managing finances properly can become almost impossible.
