No surprises here.

It's only recently that Bitcoin started getting mentions in the US so it's going to take a while. Now that things like Clarity Act and other policies that will come in future, it's likely that number will reduce significantly. If the US government in its policies say they're cool with Bitcoin, it's only a matter of that before citizens of the US start considering it.

I do not know the reason bitcoin is not separated from cryptocurrencies, because many people see cryptocurrencies to be very risky and not have store of value characteristics.

It might just be you and I and the rest of us here who had disassociated bitcoin from crypto currency but in the general overview, bitcoin can be generally be associated with crypto currency. So I think the interpretation there about the US workers being against the inclusion of crypto currency to their retirement plans could entirely be a common dislikes for digital currency.
I am also sure the employers won't suggest highly volatile currency because risk factors should be put in place so that retirees savings would have and edge to store values in the long term.

I guess conducting research from other country would still gain the same outcome from this research with Americans, retirement with bitcoin or crypto would always be risky, most especially if the government itself does not show good support for crypto. Because the government serves a good model for the citizens, now if they will neglect the idea of crypto investment, what would be the reaction of the citizens themselves? Of course, they will follow what the government says about crypto or bitcoin investment.

This is the reason why everyone faces a retirement crisis. Not because they are not knowledgeable about crypto, but because they set the government as their standard and avoid the risk that crypto brings.

I do not know the reason bitcoin is not separated from cryptocurrencies, because many people see cryptocurrencies to be very risky and not have store of value characteristics.
Bitcoin is cryptocurrencies though, so it's not exactly wrong.

But since we are talking about retirement, people are sensitive to it and want the safest but high yield option, those overblown news scared the older people into investing in it.

Truth is, retirement funds have been increasing exposure to crypto through ETF, Crypto basket, or even equity like MSTR, they just don't know it.

These retirement funds allocating 3% or even less to Bitcoin solve retirement deficit, they need to chase higher yield and do diversification.

If I were them, I'd be more scared if my retirement fund still getting invested into AI considering how overvalued it has been.

The biggest problem I've noticed here in my community and in other communities is the failure to distinguish Bitcoin from other cryptocurrencies. Many of them see cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, as extremely risky and lacking the characteristics of a store of value, and thus they unknowingly confuse Bitcoin with altcoins.

They hear about the collapse of some cryptocurrency prices or the large losses in the market and therefore think that Bitcoin is the same thing extremely risky and its price may collapse at any moment and they do not realize the difference between Bitcoin and the rest of the cryptocurrencies.

While I agree that cryptocurrency is risky, "bitcoin included", as un_rank would have it, it seems most of the respondents are reacting way too much. The question was simply about offering crypto as a retirement investment option. Why did they have to answer in the superlative in each of the questions?

I presume offering crypto as an option doesn't automatically mean a portion of their savings would go into it. The inclusion of such an option doesn't prejudice each employee's right not to invest a penny into it. Am I correct or I just don't know how retirement savings plan in that part of the world works?

I wonder if this is simply a case of lack of awareness.

What I see is that it is not good to put Bitcoin together with other cryptocurrencies because it can affect Bitcoin’s reputation. A lot of altcoins are scams or useless projects, so I think Bitcoin should be separated. For many of us, Bitcoin is still the king of crypto and probably the only one we fully trust.

However, speaking about retirement, even though I am a Bitcoin enthusiast and I invest in it, I understand why people still think it is risky. We are talking about retirement money here, not just investment money, and because of Bitcoin’s volatility it can put someone’s retirement at high risk.

Bitcoin can give high returns, but it also comes with high risk. I don’t think putting your full retirement fund into Bitcoin is a good idea.

Retirement investment related surveys are mainly given priority to the opinions of those who are old and their time in the workplace is almost over and those people mainly participate in such surveys. At the moment, it is not unusual for those who are 60+ years old to have slightly different opinions about cryptocurrency. Because cryptocurrency basically refers to all types of tokens. In that case, many cryptos that do not give good profit in the long time, but rather have no value in the market. This type of token and bitcoin are not the same thing.

And if they are adults or young, they can be seen to have a lot of interest in bitcoin. Because they have the right idea about bitcoin. Although it is normal to have negative thoughts about other cryptos, but most of the young or under 40 years old in developed countries are more likely to have a positive opinion about bitcoin as retirement investment.

Back then people used to have multiple kids. Now many barely have one, and some choose not to have any at all.

My grandmother had nine kids, my mom had three and I have just one. Most of my friends don’t have kids, and they don’t even want them. Plus, people are living longer, so the current retirement system doesn’t look sustainable.

Actually this is one of the reasons I’m investing in BTC. We put money into pensions that we can’t touch until we reach certain age, and God knows what the future will look like. The future already doesn’t look bright though.

Even when it's just bitcoin alone in the survey I would agree that it's risky but only that it's what could be said to be safer to invest into among all other cryptocurrencies. Undoubtedly, there would be those employees who would be willing to have bitcoin set up as a retirement plan option, so it shouldn't be what employers should opposed on employees because retirement is one of the most important stage of life of any worker, if which every plan must be well thought through under the safest practice.

This post now aligns with a recent argument I had with a friend and I was trying to tell him that, a lot of people even though they know about bitcoin and how it works, would still choose not to invest or hold a larger number of it and this is simply because they still have some sort of fear in them and not certain what would because of bitcoin in the near future especially because of its high volatile nature.

Some other persons have fallen victims of various scams involving bitcoin and crypto at large and as such, when it is been mentioned as an investment option especially for the sake of retirement, it automatically becomes a no option for them and the statistics says it all.

Personally, I also oppose the idea of employers offering cryptocurrency in workplace as an option of retirement savings plan. Whether it's Bitcoin or altcoins. If I want to keep acquire some Bitcoin as my retirement plan, I should have a better plan of doing that and not my employer being the one to do that for me or force me to it. Perhaps, for someone who wants Bitcoin as a retirement plan, on their own, they will be accumulating gradually with their monthly income using the DCA strategy and before they get to the age of retirement, they must have already accumulated a huge amount of Bitcoin and by that time, the value must have been greater than what it is today. The decision is not something that your employer has to make for you. Just my thought, tho.

I think the biggest reason why the nation is facing a retirement crisis because majority of these people are staying on their safe zone, as if avoiding taking risk will make them profitable either, but it only made them lose more and face bigger retirement crisis in the long run.
Yes, this is just the reason and that is what the research will let people that understand it know. Most of these people are saving their money in fiat (US dollar). After years they will noticed that inflation has eaten many parts of their dollar. Anyone that have been saving his retirement money in bitcoin in the past 10 years now will not have this retirement crisis.

Bitcoin can not go up as it was in the past, but it will maintain to be a store of value and it can still go up more than 10x in less than 20 decades.

I had the same thought and you have said the same thing by chance. In fact, that's what many of us will do, HODL on our own as a complement to our retirement plans.

In the survey they asked about crypto, and I guess if the results would've been very different if they offered real estate or stocks: perhaps they would've been slightly better because of the particularly negative notion that is held about crypto, but I think most people would prefer FIAT in their retirement plans, while they are free to invest in other assets on their own.

This survey does not surprise me. I wasn't expecting everyone to choose investing in Bitcoin over something more stable for retirement. Apart from the fact that those who are strongly against Bitcoin may not fully understand Bitcoin, another major reason behind their decision is that they believe that pension savings or investments should be less risky and not as volatile as cryptocurrencies (they must have pictured cryptocurrencies as shitcoins that can crash at any time). Well, there are still 26% who believe in Bitcoin; it is not entirely a bad report.

If they want to truly make these people happy, they can just give them the option of choosing how they want to invest their retirement funds: crypto or other options.

I thought the survey was for the government to like challenge the workers retirement funds into asset like the cryptocurrency and not just individual using their own benefits to invest in the bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general. The fact that pension schemes manager do invest pension money on stocks is what must have brought about this suggestion, and it’s not really a bad idea if we kind of look at it from a bitcoin enthusiast perspective. What needs to be done is more adoption and awareness that bitcoin will actually make a good idea for that because it’s not actually volatile as it use to be in the past and has actually yielded the best results in the last 10 years.

26% is already a good number if this survey is carried out in the next few years I’m certain we are going to to get a good number around 60% or more.

It was 67% in 2022, but it has increased in the new research.

Americans have mixed views on cryptocurrency in retirement plans; the majority view it as risky.
It's not surprising because the world is going through serious problems.  In some countries, almost 99% might not be ready for retirement. Debt, house costs, health care, and others are increasing, making people not save more for retirement.

I do not know the reason bitcoin is not separated from cryptocurrencies, because many people see cryptocurrencies to be very risky and not have store of value characteristics.

https://www.nirsonline.org/research/nirsonline-org-reports-retirement-insecurity-2026/
It is also not strange that some Americans don't want their retirement funds to be invested in crypto. Many of them don't know much about the industry. The crypto sector is young and emerging, so boomers and Gen X don't have much knowledge. The research showed that Gen X and Boomers showed more skepticism about investing in Bitcoin.

Some workers will like their retirement funds to be invested in assets that are less risky, stable, and have government backing or security.

It's quite understandable because people want their retirement savings to be risk free which is why they would have submitted such a response.
We all know how highly volatile bitcoin is and other cryptocurrencies are in fact more volatile than bitcoin.
So its obvious that they would not prefer their retirement savings to include bitcoin. May be not as of now but may be later.

I do not know the reason bitcoin is not separated from cryptocurrencies, because many people see cryptocurrencies to be very risky and not have store of value characteristics.
This is for cryptocurrency and in cryptocurrency we can't say they were talking mainly about Bitcoin so I would like to compare this result with the result of another survey which only includes BTC. So if you can find one and compare it then we can know if they have the same opinions or not.

Because BTC is a good choice and a lot of people are now choosing BTC for their retirement plan maybe they live in different places, not only in US but it depends on a lot of factors, I would like to invest in an asset for retirement that I know would be there and would not vanish into thin air.

So I will definitely go for gold, property etc. but right now I am only after Bitcoin because I know I need it and if I won't invest or involve in it then I will be missing a huge opportunity like CZ just said.

"Bitcoin is much more dangerous if you don't use it. You're missing out. Not investing in AI technologies, not promoting the AI industry in your country is dangerous for you."

Americans have mixed views on cryptocurrency in retirement plans; the majority view it as risky.
As the younger generation progresses into their retirement age, I believe that this opinion will change. It is currently considered risky because the people who are at the retirement age currently are old people for whom cryptocurrency is not something they really understand. But for those of us who are in the cryptocurrency space currently, maybe when we get to approach retirement age we will not consider cryptocurrency as risky in our retirement plans as the people of that age currently view it.

To us at that age, who will have a good understanding of cryptocurrency, our opinions will be different.

There are two things I want to say. The first one is that I agree with those who are saying that the survey must have been conducted among people who are not very far from their retirement, which automatically makes it difficult for them to choose cryptocurrencies as an investment plan for their retirement because considering they understand everything about them or even the market itself, they would think that there is actually no guarantee that by the time they retire, their assets will have a significant value and they can simply sell them and use the money for the rest of their lives.
The age group started from 25 but I am sure people at 25 to 35 might not think of their retirement, if I am in this age group I would not worry about my retirement but younger generations will definitely choose Bitcoin for their retirement, the old might not because they already have made their decision and changing a decision that is already benefiting them is always harder for people at an age where wrong and risky decisions are out of the equation.

Also I read the report, the 9% of people gave the right answer to the question of how much savings should be kept aside from the total funds, which is 4%.
