As the younger generation progresses into their retirement age, I believe that this opinion will change. It is currently considered risky because the people who are at the retirement age currently are old people for whom cryptocurrency is not something they really understand. But for those of us who are in the cryptocurrency space currently, maybe when we get to approach retirement age we will not consider cryptocurrency as risky in our retirement plans as the people of that age currently view it.
To us at that age, who will have a good understanding of cryptocurrency, our opinions will be different.
But put sentiment aside, is cryptocurrencies not risky? Leave bitcoin and few other coins, did you not notice that most of these coins are not getting to all time high? You will see some coins to be good, but later the coin will be moving down in marketcap rank. Cryptocurrencies is good, but there are also many of them that are worthless. Although I think you have a point that the way we think is different from the way old people are thinking about cryptocurrencies. Most old people are not into crypto at all.

This survey does not surprise me. I wasn't expecting everyone to choose investing in Bitcoin over something more stable for retirement. Apart from the fact that those who are strongly against Bitcoin may not fully understand Bitcoin, another major reason behind their decision is that they believe that pension savings or investments should be less risky and not as volatile as cryptocurrencies (they must have pictured cryptocurrencies as shitcoins that can crash at any time). Well, there are still 26% who believe in Bitcoin; it is not entirely a bad report.
If they want to truly make these people happy, they can just give them the option of choosing how they want to invest their retirement funds: crypto or other options.
I thought the survey was for the government to like challenge the workers retirement funds into asset like the cryptocurrency and not just individual using their own benefits to invest in the bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general. The fact that pension schemes manager do invest pension money on stocks is what must have brought about this suggestion, and it’s not really a bad idea if we kind of look at it from a bitcoin enthusiast perspective. What needs to be done is more adoption and awareness that bitcoin will actually make a good idea for that because it’s not actually volatile as it use to be in the past and has actually yielded the best results in the last 10 years. 26% is already a good number if this survey is carried out in the next few years I’m certain we are going to to get a good number around 60% or more. Like every other kinds of survey, I believe that this particular survey was intended to get the workers' opinion about crypto so it will enable the management or whatever organisation incharge to form their decision. From the response given, it is already clear that they might not go ahead with the idea of investing the pension fund in crypto. Alternatively, if the management is serious about crypto, they can consider giving the workers who are interested in crypto the opportunity to invest in crypto through their pension funds. If these first set of people become successful with crypto pension plans, in years to come, more people will also be interested in crypto, and will no longer consider it as something very risky. They should give it a try first instead of discarding the idea totally.

We are in a world where people choose safety over risk, even if it was only Bitcoin mentioned there you will still get similar results. So the reply didn't really surprise me personally I could say that the world today is too busy to be inspired by Bitcoin, only few get to be on that trajectory

It's quite understandable because people want their retirement savings to be risk free which is why they would have submitted such a response. We all know how highly volatile bitcoin is and other cryptocurrencies are in fact more volatile than bitcoin. So its obvious that they would not prefer their retirement savings to include bitcoin. May be not as of now but may be later.
People with so much practicality will never choose unstable and volatile assets for their retirement savings, and there is obviously nothing wrong with that because a person can't afford to take that risk when they clearly know that the asset they are choosing could easily lose a good percentage of its value despite rhe fact that it can grow as well, but a person with no intention of making long-term investments will never choose such an asset. For retirement savings or plans, people often choose Gold and the reason for that is simple, it is because Gold is way more stable than Bitcoin, because Gold cannot lose 50% or more of its value within a few days, or even gain that much within the same period, which is why most people who are a bit old and come from times when there was no technology and stuff like today, they will surely trust Gold more than Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies.

Should retirees invest in such volatile assets? In one sense it is better not to invest the last money of a retired person in such highly volatile assets, even if there is a possibility of big gains. Retirement money is provided so that a person has the opportunity to use that money well during the last part of their life. but if for some reason the person has to lose the investment money or hold it for a long time, then it is definitely not suitable for him. If everyone has the opportunity, then he should definitely do something that can help him a lot in the future, especially in financial security. The prices of daily necessities are constantly increasing. If the retirement money cannot be used for anything, then that money may become worthless at some point. That is why it is better to invest in a platform where the risk is relatively low. Retirement money can be invested in Bitcoin, but it is not a problem if it is a small part of the total assets. Moreover, it is also a good idea if someone invests in assets like Bitcoin to diversify their investments. This will definitely reduce his risk and increase the possibility of getting returns from his investment. Everyone who has invested in Bitcoin has received good returns in the long term. Moreover, in the past history of Bitcoin, everyone who has been a long-term holder has been able to benefit.

Just have long term investment plan for bitcoins, you will not see it risky. We are in a world where people choose safety over risk, even if it was only Bitcoin mentioned there you will still get similar results.
It will remain a debate if bitcoin is not only included, but including all cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies is where some people lose huge amount of money while investing on those shit coins. Bitcoin is very different. I will like to see research on just bitcoin. If the results are the same, it will not be surprising because many people always for go for what is wrong. If you want to be successful in life, do not follow what common people are thinking.

I do not know the reason bitcoin is not separated from cryptocurrencies, because many people see cryptocurrencies to be very risky and not have store of value characteristics. Was that data derived from a comprehensive survey, or from a representative sample ? Beyond that, I think there are still many points worth questioning regarding the data. First, if the survey query didn't specifically mention Bitcoin, then the use of the term "crypto" likely implies a generalization that equates all cryptocurrencies. Second, the people sampled for the survey might not necessarily understand Bitcoin; consequently, many of them wouldn't support including it in a retirement savings plan. Third, had the survey been truly comprehensive, then I am convinced the "very risky" percentage wouldn't be that high, especially if Bitcoin specifically had been the subject of the questionnaire. I believe that many Americans already understand Bitcoin, and its long term potential. So, I don't think that data is applicable to Bitcoin itself. Unless, the questionnaire were to rephrase the questions in greater detail.

Volatility is what makes Bitcoin risky. And if the price remains in equilibrium, it won't be profitable. Volatility is needed to gain profit. It is that trait that makes Bitcoin a valuable asset to invest in. There are other qualities needed to reduce risk in Bitcoin, which involve patience, tolerance, and others. An investor who lacks this quality may not be successful. Just have long term investment plan for bitcoins, you will not see it risky.
More emphasis should be placed on this statement so that newbies do not get excited. Bitcoin can still experience significant loss in price over a long period that a newbie to question the information they got concerning long-term investment, so a newbie needs to be prepared for that possibility.

Yes, but bitcoin has been performing good. All-time high is $126000, bit it fell to $58000. It shows how bitcoin has become so less volatile, and I think this will still continue to be less volatile. Anything that newbies want to put their money on, they should research about the thing. Good research on bitcoin will let them know the right strategy to use to invest in bitcoin. Also they should not fomo. Investing during bear market is better.

On that poll says that they think crypto investment is risky. They're not wrong with that and they need to be conservative if they're into retirement or near to it.
What they need to have is an asset that they know well. Compared to us, we can easily say that crypto or to be specific, Bitcoin is part of our retirement accounts.
It will be worth it when that year comes and I hope that it does for everyone. So for those who despise bitcoin as part of their retirement, don't hate them because they are just being honest to an asset they don't know.

This report tabulates data from the public-use version of the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) from the U.S. Census Bureau. It could be said to be a comprehensive research since the data was collected from an organisation that documents the income and program participation of people in the US. Well-collected, representative data where the sample represents the entire population would also give a valid finding. Most Americans have either never heard of or are not very familiar with private equity, cryptocurrency, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). More than half (53 percent) oppose employers offering cryptocurrency as an investment option in workplace retirement savings plans, while more than three-fourths (77 percent) believe allowing cryptocurrency in workplace retirement plans is risky. The US is generally recognised as the crypto capital of the world. Reports also show that many people in the US are ignorant of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin. Anyway, I agree that narrowing the research question to just Bitcoin might have changed the respondents' responses. https://www.nirsonline.org/research/nirsonline-org-reports-retirement-insecurity-2026/

This remains positive news considering that 26% are considered to be in favor and considering making crypto a retirement plan asset. Of course if viewed more broadly that the next generation will be more familiar with digital finance has a greater chance to consider crypto. I also highlight 21% of respondents answered "Don't know", can be classified as a group that can change in a positive direction if given an educational space around crypto.

I wouldn't blame any nearing retiree who doesn't want cryptocurrency or specifically Bitcoin because most other cryptocurrency are shitcoins for their retirement plans, the much that they understand is that Bitcoin is volatile which would discourage them. I don't think that most people who have worked in their active years presently would want to risk being given a currency that they're not sure that it's value would reach their retirement gratuity when it matures. My believe is that the younger generations who understands that Bitcoin is a store of value with so much potentials to reach ATH would be glad to have their retirement plans in Bitcoin, if you can do DCA strategy to buy and hold Bitcoin for many years you can as well have it as your retirement plan. But our older folks don't understand it, they prefer something stable that they can relate with and we can't blame them.

They oppose employers paying crypto? they don't understand it. But if I'd be part of it, I'd give it a yes and a strong favor because I have holdings and it goes straight as my plan for my retirement. And the answer they have given doesn't oppose from their understanding because they know how risky crypto is. There are those who have considers it as a good option and those are the ones who understand volatility and crypto's risk. When people on that age nearing retirement has to choose what's best for them and shouldn't be as risky as it is because each cent for them is important.

This survey is showing about cryptocurrency in general not just bitcoin and that means bitcoin is joined together with other crypto assets including the very risky ones. The percentage here does not tell us exactly how they feel about bitcoin in retirement plan. Personally, I would be more interested to see the same question asked specifically about bitcoin, they are some people who think meme coins or unknown altcoin are too risky and may have completely different opinion about bitcoin because of it history. Retirement money is different from money you can afford to risk, bitcoin can be a long term retirement strategy but not to be seen as risky as every other cryptocurrency

This is not about practicality and profits, but experience. People who are experienced with Bitcoin will use their retirement money with Bitcoin than use invest on another assets. I'm trying to understand what you even mean by volatility when it's, in fact, everywhere. Any asset, security, crypto or Bitcoin can become highly volatile at any time, the time and activities are what determine the volatility. Gold, for example, is volatile on opening days, and Bitcoin can be volatile any day, but not that extreme, Bitcoin volatility has reduced compared to early years.
Investment is not about stability, in fact, assets that appreciate also depreciate in value, but the good thing about Bitcoin is that it has never depreciated in the long run. No person who has made a Bitcoin investment in the last 5 years has regretted it. Gold is more stable than Bitcoin in my opinion. Bitcoin has increased 204% in 3 years profits while Gold has done 140%, if you look at the last 5 years, Bitcoin is up 590%, while Gold is up 133%. Now, which one do you think is better?

It's possible that they have heard that many of cryptos that have been in the headlines did rugpull and have been a bad investment and made a lot of people losses. So, them near to their retirement needs something that gives them an assurance that their money will grow even for a very low interest rate. While for the younger generations, they've got a lot of years to take risks and they can have as many failures as they can be because they have a lot of time to recover.

Americans have mixed views on cryptocurrency in retirement plans; the majority view it as risky.
If we look at the current state of Bitcoin, it's understandable that they would think that way, because it's true that Bitcoin tends to be volatile. But will that remain the case when these young people reach their later years, when Bitcoin has become more mature and widely adopted? Not necessarily. Bitcoin could become less volatile as adoption grows. That's why it's important to look at the long term. While in the short term, the price may be volatile, in the long run, things could look very different, and that could make Bitcoin a pretty good option for retirement savings plans. However, this may only be possible for those who truly understand Bitcoin's potential. Those who don't understand it may continue to view it as a risky asset.
