On a neutral ground, once your wallet address is exposed to the public, it should mean no harm to you.

But you cannot try to continue doing this in today's advanced technology and innovations, when we also have a number of fraudulent activities going on the internet with the use of the social media and other related platforms that could create them and avenue for staging attack, if I were to be in such condition, I would only maintain my stand available public exposures.
Well technically there’s no actual or direct risk associated with merely just exposing your public wallet address, but indirectly, what you’re doing is also revealing your transaction history, which can automatically create useful information for someone who’s targeting you. There’s a difference between being transparent and unnecessary exposure when it comes to Bitcoin transactions. Just because every transaction is visible on chain doesn’t mean you have to make yourself identifiable, you can still maintain some level of privacy, because even if every transaction is transparent, no one would still know which transaction is yours if you don’t tell them directly.

The bottom line is to protect your privacy, and avoid making your wallet address be a target. Well, there may not be an immediate, tangible risk of the kind you mentioned, but I think such seemingly minor details can create vulnerabilities, and leaving them unaddressed is dangerous. Therefore, try to avoid exposing your wallet address; if it has already been exposed, try to obscure the transaction details immediately so you don't become a target for tracking (especially regarding your personal information).

By the way, I just read something relevant to this topic, and I really liked the suggestion for users need to exercise a higher level of vigilance, here : coindesk.com - How to stay safe after the Ledger customer data leak: experts urge privacy first

On my way your public key will be reveal when you spend the transaction but the advice is that anything you do make sure your privacy is protected. Ever since bear market start, there has been number of reports about how people loss money to physical attack in their homes, report says some of them didn't even do all these we discussed, they did worse by exposing their identity that they have Bitcoin and that was how they got attacked in their home.

The banks maybe centralized system and not like because of how they operate but there is a reason why banks hide client details. Even the governments hide the things they do, they don't want the public should know much about the things they do because of how valuable privacy is to everyone. If Bitcoin is a smart money that is better than other institutions, then you have to protect your privacy as much as you can.

You're not aware with dust attack?

Try to read it, so you would know the risk of exposing your wallet address in the public.

Quote
A dusting attack sends tiny amounts of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to many wallet addresses in order to trace their owners.

Attackers analyze the movement of the "dust" across the blockchain to link addresses together and identify the person or company controlling a wallet.

If successful, the information gathered can be used for phishing, extortion, or targeted scams.

You can reduce your exposure by not spending dust, using a wallet with "Do Not Spend" or coin control features, and using a fresh address for each transaction.

So best not to expose your wallet to anyone or anywhere. Protect your privacy, since this can help you stay away with many scams happening in internet.

Also read more from this article https://www.binance.com/en/academy/articles/what-is-a-dusting-attack you will get more idea if you read the whole explanation about that type of attack.

Since your email and the monitored wallet address were included in the data leak they can guess that it is your wallet but they cannot say with complete certainty whether it is your own wallet because anyone can monitor anyone else's address like this.

The problem will happen when the scammers think that address is your own and start attempting to scam you. $7000 is not a small amount so even if they do not try to scam you now they may do it after some days when you forget about it. For this always keep an eye on your email and never click on any link from that email no matter how official it look.

I think one important thing that a lot of people often overlook is that thinking that privacy is just about hiding their identity, or their address itself, but they fail to realize that it’s equally about breaking any link between your transactions and your real world identity. The moment those connections are established, you’ll be surprised how even your future transactions would be revealed easily. And this is why privacy is way much easier to preserve proactively than to recover after you’ve already created the trail.

Are there wallets that are suggesting addresses? You want to send the coins to another address and not the wallet address, so the wallet can not suggest you any address. The mistake is the later one that you mentioned, which is copying address from the transaction history. The best is to copy the address from where the receiver sent it or on an exchange or from the receivers wallet directly.
I think one thing people mostly overlook is the fact that this mistake can be easier with the help of address reuse. If you constantly send and receive bitcoin from the same address over and over again, then transaction history may seem trustworthy, but the safest approach remains to verify the destination from an independent source every single time you wanna initiate a transaction before signing that transaction. Just a few seconds of verification can actually make you prevent landing yourself in an irreversible mess/loss.

Yeah, I know about dust attacks, I’ve read a couple articles and posts about that, I guess I should have included it as a potential risk of exposing one’s address to the general public. But the thing about this kind of attack is that only those who are careless and ignorant are most likely to  fall for this kind of attack. There’s always need to double check transaction details and information before giving the final go ahead, and again, who copies address from their last transaction? For me, that shows the highest level of ignorance and carelessness.

Here's a second technical point about the wallet side, separate from the email and phishing stuff the others already covered well:

Knowing a wallet address plus a rough balance figure (say $7000) is more useful to an attacker than people realize. Not because they can touch your funds, but because it makes timing-based social engineering a lot easier to pull off.

Anyone can watch a public address for free using nothing more than a regular RPC node. No special tools needed — just keep polling for incoming and outgoing transactions on that one address.

So if someone specifically wanted to target you, they could easily set up simple monitoring on your exposed address and get pinged the moment you move funds, receive a deposit, or interact with a new contract. That timing information, combined with the email breach, makes a phishing attempt way more convincing — like an email that shows up right after you make a transaction, referencing something that makes it look like it "knows" what you just did.

This isn't a reason to panic (your funds are still safe, and this is old news to anyone who's dealt with on-chain analytics), but it's part of why "just a public address" is a bit more exposed than "just a bank account number" once it's tied to an identity — the on-chain activity itself is fully public and trivially watchable in real time.

Even so, there's always the most careless person inside a classroom regardless of what type of subject is that. And with this, it's sad that no matter how you would level the ignorance of some people have, there's still a few that will fall for it.

I agree but he still need to be aware of potential attacks on him through email, as said about the phishing emails he needs to be careful of.

Yeah, exactly — the phishing side and the monitoring side aren't really two separate things. They feed into each other. If someone's sitting there watching the address on-chain, they don't have to guess when to send the phishing email. They just wait for the next transaction to go through, and then they pounce right after. That's what makes it so believable in the first place.

And it’s very unfortunate that people would just decide to ignore the signs, just because it hasn’t happened to them yet they just believe it won’t. What many people fail to understand is that the safety of their wallet is just as important as the asset inside, if not more important, because if the security and safety is compromised, then there’ll be no more investment after all. Only those who really understand this are really mindful about their wallet’s security.

And these hackers are clever for their schemes. If the victim is ignoring the signs, they'll have to pay for the cost of it if some phishing comes to them.

It takes an experience for them to learn. Either from their own or from someone else. If they learn from other people's experience, they won't carry the burden of it but if they are overconfident and ignore the sign then it's for them to see the situation and how they'll react from it.

It takes an experience for them to learn. Either from their own or from someone else. If they learn from other people's experience, they won't carry the burden of it but if they are overconfident and ignore the sign then it's for them to see the situation and how they'll react from it.
Sometimes, the hardest lesson come from the ones you literally had enough information and could have easily avoided if you had only taken your time to evaluate the situation but still chose not to take the information seriously and ended up falling into that mess. The mistakes of others can indeed provide the warning without the cost, but when a person becomes overconfident in themselves, they end up feeling the reason those people failed was because they didn’t know better, and so they believe their situation would be different. And at that point experience then become the teacher that they could have easily avoided if they had paid attention to the warning.

With that way of learning through our personal experience and we're aware of the situation and yet, we somehow fell for it. It's regretting to be in that shoe because we have an idea but we have not adhere to early signs that has been shown. We make mistakes but with the obvious, we should be reactive and being overconfident doesn't have a space when threats are just all around and chooses no one as their victim.

The email address is the risk you're exposed to, you can receive personalized phishing links there. Scammers will try to get you to panic and make a mistake that can lead to you sending them actual sensitive personal information.

Your address being exposed doesn't pose a security risk. Many users here are on campaigns with their addresses in a public spreadsheet. A dust attack can be attempted, to try and get an idea of any other wallets you own but that also doesn't expose you to any further risk.

You’re very correct the email address is the bigger risk here because scammers can use it to target you with personalized phishing links. They can even create urgency for you or make you to panic, hoping that you will make mistake and give them sensitive information.

But your bitcoin address being in public doesn’t mean that you have expose yourself to any serious security risk. Most people who are in campaign have already gotten their addresses publicly disclosed. No attacker can have access to your wallet or your funds when you post your address.

Learning from personal experience should be for people that do not have enough knowledge to guide them on what to and what not to do. Those who are here in this forum are supposed to be at an advantage because quite often, they get to read stories of personal experiences, scam reports, scam alerts, security breach alert and well detailed explanation on how to stay protected.

With all this information offered to them for free, including I,  I do not see any reason why someone who is aware of all these scams will still fall victim to thesame scam he/she is very much aware of. It is not overconfidence that caused it, it is just an act of carelessness and unseriousness.

Being involved with Bitcoin comes with a responsibility, not everyone are lucky to have a second chance when they come in contact with scammers. That is why they must flee when they suspect scam, instead thinking that they can play along and still be in control.

Not that it’s actually wrong to feel confident, it’s very okay to be confident in yourself or your knowledge, but more importantly even in our confidence we must learn to draw distinct lines between merely being confident because we see good opportunities and allowing our emotions to cloud our judgement. Because sometimes this is actually the problem, even when it’s clear that it’s a red zone, our emotions still wants to push us into giving it a try, probably due to the potential benefits promised.

Yes, exposing your address to the public does not put you in any risk of losing your crypto coin, however technology is increasing day by day and people are making things that were impossible before possible now, but I believe no matter how technology increases I don't think there will ever be a time that exposing your address will put you at risk, such a time will never come.
No matter how you expose your crypto address nothing can be done with it that will affect or that will lead them to steal your crypto coin.

Carelessness and unseriousness is due to overconfidence. They have become careless because they think that they'd not fall for it, and that's because they are overconfident with what they know. The negligence is on them due to that and that's why there are experienced and people aware of these scams and still fell for it.

Not that it’s actually wrong to feel confident, it’s very okay to be confident in yourself or your knowledge, but more importantly even in our confidence we must learn to draw distinct lines between merely being confident because we see good opportunities and allowing our emotions to cloud our judgement. Just don't be too over with it or having of too much of it. And we have to balance all of these factors, emotions, knowledge, confidence. Too much of everything is bad.
