In this present day, technology has really advanced a lot, making things very easy, fast and convenient for humans without having to stress too much or work too hard.

Now my question:
Is the advancement of technology actually making humans more productive, improving our skills or are we gradually losing our basic skills and some other essential skills, since we are now dependent on technology for everything?
Are we becoming less productive, losing our problem solving abilities, critical thinking and creativity?

It is a different thing for different persons. Technological advancement has made some people more efficient because of how they've used technology well; some other persons who have used this technology negatively have been affected by it and have been made totally dependent on this technology that they can no longer function on their own or even show any form of efficiency without it. Technology should make you better, not make you less. If technology is making you less, you are probably using it wrongly, and technology should not be blamed but you for how you're using it.

The advancement of technology was intended to assist humans to do things better and faster but humans are gradually becoming too lazy because of their over dependent on the use of technology in everything they are doing. Gradually humans do no longer go to skills they depend on the use of Ai to assist them to do things faster. In production today people no longer want to use their hands to work and their brains to think even in educational sector students now go to the easy ways instead of studying to pass their exams. Humans have lost it all to technology that ability to do anything do not exist again so the introduction of technology has turned majority to lazy people.

Our ability as human beings to create technologies that will make things easy for us, is what you should refer as creativity and ingenuity, no matter how you try to make things look as if it is basic for human beings right now, it was the thinking of people that made all of these come to reality. technological advancement did not start today, it has been a work in progress for the last 100 years, electricity was discovered by Michael Faraday and the equipment he used in creating electricity is being advanced, today we have wind powered electricity, we have solar powered electricity,  we have various types of means to use and generate electricity, all of these are creativity of the human mind, and this creativity will not stop, it would continue to advance till the end of time.

In the old times when there was no phones, do you realize how difficult it was to communicate with people in far distance and how long it will take before a message can be passed to a receiver living outside your country? Compare how difficult communication was then and now that you can be in your room in your country and call your brother who is living in another country.

Humans deserve rest too because over the years, they have been using their brain to build technologies that will lessen their task so that the brain doesn't get too stressed as a result of critical reasoning to proffer solution to a problem. It is true that human task will reduce since many modern technology can do almost everything but we shouldn't also forget that it's same humans that builds these technologies and it took them a lot to achieve. Human that has been working without technology needs rest but human that has not done anything need both manual and technology because it seems like the older generation have a better life and live longer than people that are now the new generation of today. Do you know how many people that are dying of cancer today, mostly they are mid age people, older age people have it too but this generation seems to be the most affected in things they do.

Everything we do today is technology, the food we eat are now technically modified, we are not eating natural food again. Even the natural food we consider to be natural are not the kind of natural food we eat back then, they are modified all modified today. We also consume processed food, these things are having high adverse effect on us but we think the technology is the best thing. The more I look into this generation, the more technology take us back.

Technology is a very broad term because it is applicable to almost everything we do today. Some are not necessarily skill related, but its use has made life a lot easier in general. For skills, I think it has increased productivity and improved skills more, _{(although there's also a negative side to it)}. One of the most interesting thing about technology is the ease/access it gives to learn different skills at little or no cost... Take YouTube for example, it literally contains thousands of resources/materials that can allow anyone learn almost any skill.

It would be unfair to generalize it or blame technology... Productivity is achievable when things can be done efficiently, and the only way things are done efficiently is when there are enough resources or necessarily skill. But when it comes to problem solving abilities and critical thinking, a lot of people now prefer to seek the use of Tech just to get quick results. The thing is, this part of it is always subjective because some people might not see it as a problem... Take for example, using AI in exams or school related work, or a music artist using AI to create songs, or an artist making graphical designs with AI when critical thinking and creativity is mostly expected... That's already a negative side to its usage imo, but I think it's more of a human problem than a technology problem.

The development of technology is making people's work easier. People are able to complete their tasks faster, but it is true that over-reliance is also making people lazy. Nowadays, people are relying more on AI than on their own intelligence. People are more interested in getting AI to do the work instead of doing it themselves. I think the problem is not the technology itself, but how people are using it is the most important thing.

Well, OP, your sayings are indicating to me more towards the use of AI technology, right? As you said, we are getting more dependable to technology, which is then damaging our productivity, way of solving problems and creativity. Then on this, I would say this technology has both its pros and cons at the same time. These technologies are helping you to save your time, but on the other hand, you are becoming more dependent on such technology.

These technologies bring any information to you in just seconds, but on the other hand, it is not nature-friendly. Because it consumes a lot of fresh water, and the sad part is that a lot of people lack of consuming freash water due to its unavailability to them. And we really know the fact that we are slowly moving towards the time when wars will happen over the matter of water. As for the decline in problem-solving ability, critical thinking, and creativity, that is actually something that happens to some people who may rely too heavily on technology to do various things for them, for example, when AI, which should be a tool to help them, is instead used so often to solve even very easy tasks. They depend on AI so heavily that it makes their minds dull, because they use AI too often over time without actually taking the time to think and solve things on their own.

I don’t really think human has lost it all to technology because technology has done us more good than harm. For sure, if not for technology me and you wouldn’t have been in the forum here or been able to use some tools which help us with our daily activities. I believe that as people lose skills due to technology, more skills with technology tools are being created, so it is still a win.
Only people it has made lazy are people who are lazy from the onset.

Actually, answer to your question is that it does both. We *are* improving the skills that will allow us to operate the new technology, but at the same time, we may also lose some basic skills. I likened it to the learning of mathematics --> Decades ago, we compute all the algorithms by hand (say Newton-Raphson or linear interpolation or curve-sketching) - so much so that we are able to regurgitate the rules, and also to memorize how to sketch graphs. But with the invention of the graphing calculators, high school kids now only need to input the equations in and voila! the equations are solved.

What did we lose then? We lost out on how to memorize the rules by heart. What did we gain then? We are now able to operate the calculator more efficiently, resulting us being able to sketch more complex graphs (that were not possible before).

No, I don't think we have lost our creative abilities or critical thinking and problem-solving abilities because of technology. We should think about it this way: were there no stupid or lazy people back in the day when there was no technology? Yes, there were. And, are there no intelligent or highly-skilled people in today's world that's full of technologies? There are.

So, if when there was no technology and still stupid and lazy people, and there is technology now but there are still intelligent and hard-working people, doesn't that mean it has nothing to do with technology or human nature itself? Just because I go to the market in my car to buy groceries doesn't mean I have become lazy, but it's just a facility that I now have and it makes things easy for me, saving my time, saving me from getting tired by walking there on foot. Of course, if I need to work out and do physical activities and exercises, I can always do that in my free time, I don't necessarily need to do that when I have to do something else.

Almost every technology that we have today is useful for us. If people get lazy and say it is because they have facilities available, they are just using this as an excuse.

I ran into this exact trap a while back when I started over-relying on automated tools for daily problem-solving.  At first, it felt like a massive productivity win because I was pumping out work faster than ever. But then I realized my raw problem-solving muscle had turned to absolute mush because I was letting software do all the heavy lifting for me.  You need some difficulty within your work if you truly want to grow critically thinking about problems.

So my take on this: Using technology to do your work better is a strength. Needing technology just to do your work at all is a weakness.

A human being only loses their basic skills if they stop using them, and, for me, the use of technology is a complement to what I know, even if it facilitates decision-making; the decision remains mine. Because with technology, there will be less pile of work for humans, yet there is high productivity for the company. And no brilliant company will prioritize human job over technology, its always technology first and just let the humans operate them.
