Arkham Intelligence data[/url], Metaplanet transferred 4,800 BTC to Coinbase Prime today, following the company’s transfer of 2,000 BTC worth $155.5 million two days ago, another series of transfers three days ago totaling 3,331 BTC worth nearly $266 million and lastly a transfer from six days ago moving 139 BTC worth $11.1 million. In total, those deposits amounted to 10,270 BTC worth approximately $806.3 million this week alone.

No evidence yet that Metaplanet is selling its bitcoin holding, but it is very possible the treasury company is planning to or has sold some of the coins sent to Coinbase Prime.

Institutional holder and companies with Bitcoin reserve are optioning into to coinbase prime for custody settlements, what we should know is that, when a company that have structural finances moves their large Bitcoin holding to exchange without official sells signaling, it could mean various reasons and not selling just because of movement, but also you have to treat this large movement not just as treasury settlement movement but may be an unconfirmed sells intentions judging from current prices and market realities.

Yeah, this could be a preparation for a sale, but could also be a custodial move or another institutional transaction. The distinction is also important cause Metaplanet has reportedly said that previous transfers were custodial rather than an intention to liquidate.
While a transfer to a prime broker or an exchange can precede a sale, the on chain transaction only shows us that the coins have been transferred to an address associated with Coinbase prime but doesn’t tell us what happened afterwards.

Corporate treasury tracking can also be tricky, sure it can tell us where coins are moved but once a company starts using institutional custodians, we may not be able to know the company’s actual balance by simply looking at identifiable addresses.

In most cases when you discover that an institutional investor and making a decision to move their assets to an exchange from a wallet, what first come to your mind is that they are trying to sell, but sometimes, this could be only just a reaction the some particular decision whereby they wanted to either make a transfer from between assets ownership or trying to trigger the market to react towards his attention to they could make a decision to either sell or buy more.

There are more than one reason why companies move crypto to exchanges. Metaplanet has not made any comment concerning this news, so I might just assume the transfer was a normal custody and treasury management process. A few weeks ago, there was news that the company moved Bitcoin and was going to sell it. But Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich said it was not true

I do not even know, but it will be disappointing that some companies are making much decision at the wrong time if the treasury company is selling the coins. I just hope the company is not selling 29% of its bitcoin holding for now. They can sell when the price of bitcoin get to all time high if they have confidence in bitcoin investment.

The important thing I'd be looking at would be after the Coinbase transfer and not that the transfer itself necessarily signifies a sell. If the BTC is indeed being sold, we should eventually receive more tangible proof, like the BTC's reported holdings decreasing or anything else that would indicate that the coins are in the market. So far it's only speculation that it's a sale. But 10,270 BTC is a pretty massive amount, so I believe it's worth paying attention to. A more complete picture should be available in the next official Metaplanet update, as opposed to the on-chain transfer alone.

In fact, we don't know exactly why Metaplanet is transferring bitcoins to Coinbase Prime. 🙋

It's quite possible that this is a secured lending transaction using yen arbitrage (JPY carry trade). Metaplanet's bitcoins act as collateral. However, the essence of this transaction is not the sale of bitcoins, but the purchase of them. We see that the price of bitcoin is showing signs of growth. Perhaps this underlies Metaplanet's financial calculations.

It's quite possible that Metaplanet wants to take out a cheap loan in Japanese yen and use it to buy bitcoins. When the price of bitcoin rises to $100,000, Metaplanet will sell some of the bitcoins and repay the loan (along with interest, which is historically low). As a result, the amount of bitcoins in Metaplanet's balance will increase, not decrease. 🧏

It's not surprising because we've already seen Strategy sell some of its Bitcoin, even after being one of the strongest representatives of the HODL, don't sell.. The important thing is that those sales weren't necessarily about dumping Bitcoin, but were part of managing their cash reserves and financial obligations. The same could be the case with Metaplanet. From what we know, they've only moved a portion of their Bitcoin to Coinbase Prime. That doesn't necessarily mean they're selling. It could also be for custody, trading, financing, or other financial purposes. So I don't think this is something to panic about. At some point, these institutions may sell portions of their holdings to realize profits or manage their finances. What matters is the size of the sale relative to their total holdings and whether their overall accumulation strategy changes. For now, they still hold very large amounts of Bitcoin, so a few transfers shouldn't automatically be interpreted as them abandoning their long term strategy.

Let’s not conclude based on the movement of coins; besides, Coinbase Prime is not just where they trade, but it’s also a pro Coinbase, according to what they call it, where they help institutional investors and whales. hold their coins, so we can just remove the negative sentiment and believe them until their is a sign they actually sold, but to what point will it be for a company to be selling part of their holding and lie about it at same time.

Well I may not be correct but right now meta are in a legal battle and they have lost some cases and now they are being required to pay states huge money as compensation, this money are very huge and more cases may be on the low in court or could be settled out of court.

I am not Meta's account officer so I will not be able to know if they already have laid down plans on how to handle such cas s before now but it could play a slight or significant part in why meta would want to sell their Bitcoin.

A few weeks ago CEO Simon Gerovich denied selling his bitcoins, he said routine custodial operations are possible recently that transfers to Coinbase Prime are not for sale right?

This issue will not be published for sure, from their side will always refute it even though the scenario that eventually sell, suppose they sell at the price now there is a certain reason.

Bitcoin that is transferred from the institution to the exchange will be of concern to small investors... in general, nothing is certain.

It's hard to tell whether they are selling or not. They want to be at the top of Asia, so for me, it might be that they are just moving to Coinbase as just standard within the company. Perhaps we just want to equate the current correction to some institutions that are selling, including Metaplanet.

And this is just my personal opinion, I don't usually follow those blockchain analysis account like in Twitter and then reporting those large movement. They might be stirring the community with their reports and likely creating FUD.

Whales are not dumb to sell without any plans of making profits or strategizing, certainly in a way that benefits them in the long run. This is how the market is manipulated, each time whales plan to sell, small investors begin to lament even before the sell is done.

We cannot stop selling, if it is a way to manipulate the market and buy back cheaply, we can also be a beneficiary if we join to buy the dip.

With rumors denied by the executives, we have to  wait and see what happens, but selling that amount of Bitcoin for a price that isn't worth the last ATH, those in charge of making decisions can't be so dull to sell now.

It would be a bit tough to know if they'll likely sell sooner but on a second thought they've moved about 29%  of their holdings so far which means they might be hoping that the price of Bitcoin gets closer to the ATH before selling that's why they moved it there in preparation to sell later.

Metaplanet only moved the said amount of coins,not sell, so whatever be their decisions in the future remains to be seen while we prepare for a possibility of bull run following the recent price increase of BTC in the market.

They've sent to coinbase prime could have some reasons and it's not mainly about selling. Coinbase prime accepts transfers for collateral management too.

So, there might be some loans that Metaplanet is asking for Coinbase prime. But it's all speculation and could still end up with a bulk selling.

But know that Coinbase prime, isn't just for selling larger amounts of Bitcoins because they have services that can be offered to companies like Metaplanet.

They have analytics on their website that show nothing about selling; it's still 43k BTC in total holdings, even though the disclosure page does not mention selling something from their holdings.

I read the august 31 disclosure related to the partial exercise of the 10th series of stock acquisition rights. I believe they are not going to sell read this:

"Accordingly, the 64,032,000 shares acquired by Simon Gerovich through this exercise are also subject to the
lock-up agreement and, in principle, may not be sold or transferred until August 17, 2031."
