I have not been a fan of comparing bitcoin with fiat, gold or other valuable assets. The reason I don't like that comparison was after reading the bitcoin white-paper and understood the real purpose why bitcoin was created.

Bitcoin was created to be an alternative to fiat. It was created to provide liberty and not to be coerced to follow just way corrupt way provided by the government. Bitcoin was not created to replace fiat and neither was it created to replace or surpass gold. But if bitcoin is doing some wonders more than expected, we should be clad and hope for more and not to trumpet it.

Gold has been here for ages, but bitcoin is not up to 2 decades. I believe the market is still young, so bitcoin can actually evolve to many things more than our expectations.

I think we've discussed similar topics here on the forum.
Bitcoin doesn't not need to eliminate the worth of gold before it can surpass it. If more gold investors continue to move their assets into Bitcoin, the value of Bitcoin in the nearest future will surpass gold while gold still remains relevant.

Gold's historic longevity gives it an advantage over when it comes trust especially for the older generation of investors while Bitcoin that's existed for less than 2 decades is built to do better in a digital world so we'll see what the next few decades of adoption of Bitcoin will look like.

Bitcoin and gold are different assets and they even belong to different asset classes.
Bitcoin is still very far behind gold in market caps of these assets.

Even I am investing my money in Bitcoin, I believe in Bitcoin, I imagine of a very bullish future for Bitcoin but I am realistic that Bitcoin will not surpass gold too soon. It needs many years to surpass gold but I believe it will do that successfully.

https://companiesmarketcap.com/assets-by-market-cap/

Reading this the bullish case for Bitcoin book can help to understand more about difference between these two assets.

Bitcoin is already taken some places good and occupied before now, that is why you could as well discover that bitcoin is now also referred to as a digital gold, not because it is gold itself but has a value that is almost similar or even more better higher than goal, not only that but there are other features you could get from considering bitcoin as your investment currency or assets whereby good does not stand to render's such benefits in like manner, one of the most interesting and profitable assets in the world today is Bitcoin and has been increasing more in adoption than any other assets.

I'm not a Bitcoin hater or anything like that, in fact, I love Bitcoin and I know it's a great asset, but I think the comparison between Gold and Bitcoin is an invalid or illogical comparison for a lot of reasons, because there are far so many differences between the two assets, and they have their own pros and cons just like any other asset that exists out there. Gold has been around for centuries, and obviously has a lot more trust from a wider point of view when compared to Bitcoin, but this alone doesn't make it better or the best, because as I said, both are good.

One of the biggest reasons why Bitcoin has surpassed Gold when it comes to market capitalization is that people nowadays, at least most of them, are always chasing quick profits, which means that they want assets that have the ability or possibility to make them a lot of profits in a shorter timespan, and Bitcoin has got that potential, but Gold has more stability, which means there are far less risks involved in an investment in Gold than Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency.

If we search for: " How many governments have bought or own gold? " We will find information such as this:

https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/gold-reserves

We will see a large list of very rich countries such as the United States, China, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, and others. Now, if we search for: "how many countries have bought or own Bitcoin" We will only see a few countries like El Salvador that have bought it, but we will also see countries like the United States that have Bitcoin thanks to having seized it. We will also see countries like China having it thanks to having confiscated it from companies that operated some service involving Bitcoin in their country. So this means that not many governments have bought Bitcoin to hold it long-term. Therefore, Bitcoin surpassing gold is honestly something that won't happen anytime soon. I commented on this in a thread that discussed a similar topic and said that it would take at least 50 years for Bitcoin's market value to reach the market value of gold.

One thing is certain here a lot of persons can actually see that Bitcoin could be a much better asset than gold.
Indeed, more and more people nowadays see Bitcoin as a potential asset not only for hedging but also for making a profit. But for now, I think most people's trust is still greater in gold assets. Nowadays, who doesn't know gold?
But regarding Bitcoin assets, not all groups of people know the potential of this digital asset. People's trust in gold has existed for a very long time. But Bitcoin is a rare asset, the higher the market demand, the more expensive its price can become.

I see both as good assets. I don't think one will replace the other, but a shift in mindset for determining investment assets may gradually occur, related to generational changes.

As much as the debate on these two keeps popping up & will never rest, let's face it gold and Bitcoin are never going to be in the same league regardless of the similarities!!

If we are going to talk about adoption or widely accepted, gold will always win this and to make matters worse Investor money is attracted to security & regulation and that's a reason it's pushed into gold than it is for Bitcoin, and let's not forget several governments have gold reserves and all that which means alot of people and institutions have an interest to protect , unlike Bitcoin which fights for itself with the back up of its small userbase.

I try as much as possible to not have to compare these two assets as, they operates in very distinct fields, have their uniqueness and are equally very important in our society today, more on the side of gold though.

It’s being around for centuries, serving relatively the same purpose, money, jewelry, store of value and more as opposed to Bitcoin that have just a decade in some years on it. Aside from its market capitalization, it’s still got a lot to prove unlike gold that seems to have seen and done it all.

50 years you say? In other words you believe it would take around 50 years for the price of one BTC to go above a million dollars. I don't know, nobody can see the future, so you may be right, but i just have a feeling that 50 years seems like a really long time and i expect BTC to get to a million dollars sooner than that.

I do not have any stats or anything similar to back it up, but i just believe that with the trajectory of the network, it is expected to go across a million dollars before half a century.

What is the gain after comparing both assets? We end up with either buying Bitcoin or both because we see  the reasons.

Both gold and Bitcoin are useful, they are good assets and could be worth more in the future. Investors who can afford to do both shouldn't relent, It is an advantage to accumulate and make plans to hold the asset for the long term.

We do not need to have uncultured reasoning, whether Bitcoin surpasses gold or not, rest assured we must make profits from our investment.

That's the advantage of both ends for these investors of gold and bitcoin.

We're free to roam on both sides and that's how we distinguish which one can sets us more cash flow in the near future.

So, it's free way for both investors and people still never stop in arguing which one is better and how things will end up for both of it.

But the silent investors will simply do what they think is the right thing to do then when they are in profit.

Prior to this time we've entertained and heard discussions about Bitcoin being the digital gold, or being the next gold, well... There's been a lot of back and forth and discussions to argue for or against the mentioned propositions.

Quietly we've been seeing something quite different, we're seeing Bitcoin potentially replacing gold or surpassing hold in today's world. The numbers obviously don't lie. Personally, I've always maintained that Bitcoin surpassing or being on par with gold is not so far off.

It's not hard to imagine countries who like to hold gold, start to hold Bitcoin instead, obviously such a prospect will take some time but I strongly see it happening, and I'm not alone.

Just recently Binance CEO actually echoed my sentiments. We Know when CZ speaks, he speaks from knowledge and then people surely would start to take note. One thing is certain here a lot of persons can actually see that Bitcoin could be a much better asset than gold.

Surely, arguments against are always valid; it could be in the perspective that good is fine for business, Bitcoin is volatile, after coming up to 77 k it failed to reach 85 k and could deep further. Well we've all seen this before.

Certainly the gap is getting more interesting to watch.
I doubt Bitcoin has come to replace gold totally, but rather both will co-exist, as Bitcoin is digital and gold is physical; they both serve their respective purposes and share some unique values such as a store of value and a safe haven asset or hedge against inflation. No doubt that Bitcoin, based on its utility case, is becoming more valued than gold has been, but that does not make gold worthless. Bitcoin is a king operating differently from gold; I don't see a total replacement, but Bitcoin will dominate the store of value space in no distant time.

Gold and bitcoin can both exist without any competition, in fact they can be a perfect investment combination. So I don't see any reason why bitcoin should surpass gold when they can be both profitable as long-term investments. And while gold remains the safe haven traditional investment, bitcoin can act as digital gold and can be a good diversification for those who invest in gold or real estate.

The thing is, even if bitcoin may surpass gold in the future, the relevance of gold will stay and people will chose to diversify rather than stick with bitcoin alone.

Bitcoin is entirely a different digital asset from gold, am not saying that gold is not a good digital asset, but Bitcoin has really outperformed gold in term of growth, and has attracted people to it's self.
Bad comparison, an asset that has established its price and don't need price discovery can't be compared to a new type of an asset. If outperforming gold is an achievement, every fortune 500 stocks have done this. But it isn't the kind of achievement that should be flexed. Growth always high on an asset with lower market capitalisation.

If you think about growth and popularity over time, you will understand that bitcoin is already in a better position than gold in many ways. The growth and popularity that bitcoin has become in just 16 years has not been seen in any other asset. And considering that the whole world is moving towards modern economy and digital revolution, there is a good chance that bitcoin's acceptance will increase further in the future and its price will also increase.

If bitcoin completes 2 more cycle in the future, then the supply of bitcoin will decrease even more. But people's demand will continue to increase. Then the price will increase . And some of the problems with gold are that it cannot be transferred easily. In that sense, bitcoin can be transacted very easily. Bitcoin can be held for investment purposes. Finally, people have got such an asset that they can use freely. And people are so interested in bitcoin because of this financial freedom. Bitcoin will definitely surpass gold in the next few years. At the rate at which people's acceptance is increasing, we may not have to wait for many more years. So if someone has the opportunity and financial capacity, they can hold bitcoin.

The fact that two assets are almost of similar value doesn’t mean any of them can replace the other, both gold and bitcoin has their unique peculiarities and have there areas of dominance, gold for example is a more stable asset that is not easily influenced by market fluctuations whereas bitcoin is highly volatile of which till date some investors are still skeptical about investing completely in it. In as much as bitcoin has gained widespread acceptance and adoption doesn’t mean that it can replace gold, over the years gold has been a cherished asset and still remains highly valuable.

I just feel that investment choices depends on the level of knowledge and awareness of the investor for example if i tell my aging mother to choose between gold and bitcoin of similar value she will prefer gold because gold has been there long ago before bitcoin and she isn’t knowledgeable about bitcoin, some persons will prefer investing in gold whereas some will prefer investing in bitcoin depending on their investment strategies and prospects but that doesn’t mean that any of the two assets are more valuable than the other or can completely replace the other, there are certain things you can use gold for that you can’t use bitcoin for and vise vasa.

You don't have to wait till a completion of next two market cycles because most of bitcoin in Bitcoin total supply has been already mined and in circulation supply.
How is the 21 million Bitcoin cap defined and enforced?
Only quickly looking at the chart is enough to help you realizing that Bitcoin circulating supply is already in the flat area of the total supply curve.

You can check with Coinmarketcap.com
20.07M BTC in 21M BTC has been in circulating supply already.

You don't have to argue with the others, as if you realize that being an early comers, early investors, at least earlier than the others, you now have very good advantage of time and bitcoin accumulation. It's your responsibility to convert such advantages to something actually meaningful for your bitcoin investment portfolio and profit in the future.

I really just don't get it why there's comparison happened, since they don't actually need to became so bias on one asset. Because they can actually diversify their investment to get much better result.

Both asset is good to have and to hold for long term. So instead of talk about nonsense thing about this two asset, I think much better for them to learn on how they can invest in Bitcoin and Gold. Maybe they can learn something from this sites.

https://ibkrcampus.com/campus/traders-insight/securities/macro/better-together-bitcoin-and-gold

https://www.ssga.com/au/en_gb/individual/insights/can-bitcoin-and-gold-co-exist-in-a-portfolio

https://www.gate.com/crypto-wiki/article/bitcoin-and-gold-a-new-era-of-complementary-safe-haven-assets-says-wisdomtree-analyst-20260127

Much better for people to become a wise investor, rather than focusing on single asset only.

Prior to this time we've entertained and heard discussions about Bitcoin being the digital gold, or being the next gold, well... There's been a lot of back and forth and discussions to argue for or against the mentioned propositions.

I don't know about that discussion. But what I believe is that Bitcoin will still be Bitcoin, it won't become the 'next gold' or whatever they think Bitcoin will become.

Quote
Quietly we've been seeing something quite different, we're seeing Bitcoin potentially replacing gold or surpassing hold in today's world. The numbers obviously don't lie. Personally, I've always maintained that Bitcoin surpassing or being on par with gold is not so far off.

Gold is an asset that has been around much longer than Bitcoin. When it comes to use cases, gold is also more diverse and has been recognized by more people. Basically, gold and Bitcoin stand on different foundations. So I'm more interested in seeing how both of them continue to develop in the future.

Quote
It's not hard to imagine countries who like to hold gold, start to hold Bitcoin instead, obviously such a prospect will take some time but I strongly see it happening, and I'm not alone.

Seeing that in the past more countries were skeptical about Bitcoin and now most countries are actually interested in legalizing it through their regulations, it's not hard to imagine that more countries will include Bitcoin as one of the assets for their investment diversification. It's just a matter of time for that to happen.

Just recently Binance CEO actually echoed my sentiments. We Know when CZ speaks, he speaks from knowledge

For someone who says that keeping your assets on an exchange is safer than self custody, I don't think that every time he speaks it is based on "knowledge" but more on "interest".
