I'm not sure if players choose to pursue their goals or add playing in the Premier League to their football careers because it's a win-win situation for them because of the better contract offer, and the Premier League's involvement is making the league more like the NBA, but one thing is for sure: no player will pass up the chance to fulfilll his dream.
Remember, this is business, so player don't base their decisions primarily on feelings or the interests of other people, but rather on what's best for them.

What do you think?
The decision to leave a club is made by both the club and the players, but the power lies more in the hands of the club to decide. We saw the struggle between Napoli and Osimhen, with the club refusing to sell to big clubs that were interested in him. A player can't terminate his contract because he wants to leave and join the club of his choice, contracts bind every decision.

Ask yourself, why did Emiliano Martínez happily leave Aston Villa, which qualified for the UCL, to join Chelsea, which did not?

Yea that is just how the system works, players choice most time may mot count if the club who initial the player hard contract with disagree to sell off or lease the player to another club, the painted scenario was a typical case study we all know how osimeh club have hold him never to move out with all odd even when him is pushing, sometime it's not all about the money the bigger club is offering but the value the club want to retain mostly those that have the player may not be done with their achievement, when they have not gotten any one else to replace the one they are selling it becomes difficult task where the club and player will not agree no matter the pressure since the club owned the player must submit.

The Premier League have so many things that would actually get you attracted to the League, not just the money but the competitive nature of the Premier League, this days we have now seen that Premier League is one of the most attractive Leagues in the World, the money in the League is a factor, which is why you see teams like Leeds, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and so on are able to sigh players from bigger teams outside England, every player that have the opportunity of playing for an English team would obviously want to do that, playing in the Premier League would always present different opportunities for footballers who are interested in playing in England, in Spanish League we only have Barcelona and Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid who are able to spend huge amounts in the transfer market, but in England all the teams are spending money and buying big players and paying them huge amounts of wages.

When you say it’s becoming like the NBA, I think you mean that players can now join almost any Premier League team because the salaries are already very competitive. That’s also what we see in the NBA, and IMO it’s a good thing.

Before, many players wanted to join the giant clubs because they could offer bigger salaries and a better chance of winning. But if players can now choose other teams because the salary is still attractive, that could bring more balance to the league.

What do you think?
Both competitions have similar popularity. NBA become the most popular competitions in basketball and Premier league the most popular league for now in football, so that the others end up looking the same.

However, player transfers are not entirely within the players' control, as multiple parties are involved in reaching an agreement. Players cannot simply choose the club they play for unless they are top-tier players.
In reality, the situation in these two competitions is much like a worker applying for a job, if a company is interested, they get the position, if not, they must look for another employer.

Obviously, I’m just being provocative here because the formats of the two leagues are completely different, but I’m referring to the financial and elitist nature of the Premier League.

Until a few years ago, the best players aspired to play in Italy and for Spanish clubs; in England, Ferguson’s Manchester United, Wenger’s Arsenal and Abramovich’s Chelsea dominated, alongside Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool. Players who went to play in the Premier League were the exception. Twenty years on, the Premier League is every player’s ambition, whether for money or prestige.

For example, Sandro Tonali is moving from Newcastle to Tottenham, so there’s no career progression in moving from a team not competing in European competitions to another that hasn’t qualified. It’s certainly a better contract.

What I see is that many players, just to play in the Premier League, are willing to join mid table or lower table sides; something that would be unthinkable in other leagues. It’s just like the NBA: a player isn’t interested in joining the Nuggets rather than the Golden State Warriors or the Mavericks; the important thing is to play in the NBA.

What do you think?

Talking about players moving to some teams that are not even competing for the European competitions and yet still moving, it's all about choices and past glory and what the player sees in the team and believes they can literally help the team fight back and play the European competitions in the future to come, look at the kind of players that Totteham has gotten for themselves, the likes of savinho, SandroTonali etc, who joined them knowing fully well that they won't be playing in any of the European competitions, so I think for some it's just the prestige that made them join.

Don't forget that the premier League now is ranked as one of the best leagues in the world and every player is just excited to be playing in the league, the league is very competitive and attracted to so many good players and sometimes the club can just decide to sell a player to raise fund and no player is also forced to stay if he decides to leave, premier League can't be compared to NBA it's way competitive than NBA.

The premier League is the best League in the world right now they are doing very well, the way they structure the league is making it look attractive to everyone, it is the financial structure that makes it possible for even the lower teams or clubs in the premier League to spend huge amount of money in signing good players for themselves and this thing is making it look competitive.
Right now you can agree with me that the premier League is the most competitive league in the world and this is because of the financial arrangement that has been made in the league to help every club not just the big club.
Yes in the Spanish League small team find it very difficult to buy or sign players with huge amount of money and this has made the Spanish League very low in its competition, the only club completing for the La Liga title is Barcelona and Real Madrid.

True for money, but real Madrid and Barcelona still have that ultimate dream factor for a lot of big stars.

I wouldn’t say that before, the best players strove to play in Italy or Spain. It would probably be more accurate to say that top players wanted to play for Real Madrid and Barcelona above all else. And only after that, in the Premier League or Serie A. Besides, Serie A hasn’t been the same as it was in the 80s and 90s for a long time now. On top of that, a perfect illustration of my words would be the story of Julian Alvarez, who turned down Mikel Arteta's offer to play for Arsenal in order to move to Barcelona. Of course, top players want to play in the Premier League, but it just doesn’t compare to the prestige of playing for Real or Barca.

I can't say about Premier League though, but as far as NBA not sure what you meant that players are not interested in joining the Nuggets. Denver has been a champion and they have the best big man in Jokic. As for the Warriors, they have build a dynasty, but right now they are aging so I don't know if players wanted to play with them. Dallas has a young core and still have Kyrie.
It was only a context and example that OP was trying to bring. We know that Nuggets is a strong team and the other teams he has mentioned too.

Although right now with Golden State Warriors, the reality about them is that this is a sinking team if the roster isn't fixed and they don't get new talents that can help them reach to the playoffs and in the finals.

And as for the topic of OP, that is more applicable to the new players. For as long as they are drafted, they have no choice where to go because they are picked not unless they are outdrafted or they are desired to join to a team which happens to be a choice only for the super stars and those who have proved their talents and can get titles like Giannis, LeBron, Steph, etc.

There are qualifications that are a little difficult to argue with here, especially when talking about Tonali as an example, we know how he has performed in recent seasons.

He was very good at Milan until the really big money came from Newcastle but his form is down so it will be very difficult for him to break through the qualifications of the big clubs in the EPL with the barrage of cases that exist apart from starting over or staying at a club that wants him.
I think not to players who do not want to join a big club but in some cases we know sometimes big clubs have quite high qualifications, especially in terms of performance so in this case there are a lot of considerations that we might make reference to such as player performance, salary or even how he is in real life because in recent seasons not a few professional players (especially those in the EPL) have some cases that are not far from gambling, doping or scandal with his girlfriend until this should be another consideration.

Remove Italy from the equation, and this is still the case. Yes, money has a lot of motivating factors, but there is a point where a player just wants to achieve success at the European level. Obviously Italy was so good back in the day but not anymore. Spain, on the other hand, is still a good destination, and I will tell you most players still dream of playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid. Problem is Barcelona became very broke in the recent years, leaving Real Madrid at the helm.

Spain is the ultimate destination. PSG from France and Bayern from Germany are right behind them, but when it comes to European history, there is only one destination for very ambitious players in their prime.
The funny thing is you will never see players in their prime in Spain crossing to England. Like Mbappe, Vini, Valverde, and Yamal, moving from Spain to England, but the opposite is very possible.

I haven’t thought of it this way, I’ve always viewed it in terms of player, club relationship and at times trophy relationship. Certainly if you aren’t performing at your best, you get those kind of transfers, from an elite team to a mid tier team within the same league.

Players that are performing at their best always gets desired transfers like we saw from Kane of Spurs to Bayern Munich, we had Rodri of Manchester City to Barcelona, Gordon to Barcelona and more.

It’s still really performance, trophy and business.

It’s just like the NBA: a player isn’t interested in joining the Nuggets rather than the Golden State Warriors or the Mavericks; the important thing is to play in the NBA.

What do you think?
I'm not really familiar with how soccer works. I just know the those leagues because many are talking about it, but soccer in general is one thing that I'm not knowledgeable that much, so this might be a bit bias, and I'll talk about the NBA-part of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on my understanding, you're saying that players are joining stronger teams rather than those weaker teams, right? If that's the case then it's not that easy like what you think. Let's think as well that there's a thing called "management" where they pick the players that are FIT for their team and they think that will help them in order to get that title. It's not that they're cherry-picking strong teams. It's just that they aren't fit for most of the title-contender teams, and since they want to play in the NBA, they'll just pick whichever team they want to be as long as - like what you said, they play in the NBA.

Well, if that's what's happening with that soccer league that you shared then you can't blame the players in that aspect. They want to play in whatever reason they want to, and as long as they see themselves to be part of that league then they're willing to sacrifice everything just for the sake of what's important for them.

The English Premier League is gradually becoming the dominant commercialized league in football, so it's no surprise that many players from other leagues want to join it. There are opinions and anecdotal evidence that even transferring to clubs below continental level can be quite satisfying. On the other hand, a player's transfer to a Premier League club from a continental club is a two-way street, which is being carefully considered from various perspectives. How rational is it for the club itself, how logical is it for the player, and whether he will lose status and income?

What I see is that many players, just to play in the Premier League, are willing to join mid table or lower table sides; something that would be unthinkable in other leagues. It’s just like the NBA: a player isn’t interested in joining the Nuggets rather than the Golden State Warriors or the Mavericks; the important thing is to play in the NBA.

What do you think?
The truth is, if those players have had a better opportunity to play for a bigger team, they would've taken it. You're not completely autonomous and in control when you're playing for a club. The club can decide that they want to sell you, or send you out on a loan; so, it's not always your choice or decision.

Secondly, it had always been this way from the old days—if not, how do small clubs get their players? But, even now, you'll hardly see a very good, well established player going to bottom tier teams, unless no top team is coming for them—which is not possible.

The point here is that the Premier League is spending the most money, so it's only natural. A search on google (AI) tells us:

Quote
Data from Transfermarkt for the summer 2026 transfer window highlights the massive financial gap between England's top flight and the rest of Europe's "Big 5" leagues:

Football LeagueSummer   2026 Gross Transfer Spending
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Premier League           ~$4.76 Billion (£3.49bn)
🇮🇹 Serie A                       ~$1.16 Billion
🇩🇪 Bundesliga                  ~$907 Million
🇪🇸 La Liga                       ~$874 Million
🇫🇷 Ligue 1                       ~$694 Million

Ultimately, players go where they can earn the most money (with a few exceptions), so it's normal for them to prefer playing for a mid-table Premier League team rather than a top French team if the Premier League team pays them more.
Besides the huge amount of money involved in player transfers, there is also the exposure in the premier League that makes a player visible on TV and I must say it's good for personal branding and a long successful career.

That’s true, I’d completely forgotten about that. I think money is the most important thing, but the Premier League is the most-watched league in the world. Again, when I search on Google (AI), it tells me:

Quote
European League                   Estimated Global Viewers

1. Premier League (England)     3.2 Billion
2. LaLiga (Spain)                     600 Million
3. Bundesliga (Germany)          450 Million
4. Serie A (Italy)                     380 Million
5. Ligue 1 (France)                  210 Million

That's a huge difference as well which corresponds to the difference in the amount of money that English clubs can spend based on their advertising revenue.

Just like what other users are pointing here is the financial aspect and I think it's a no-brainer that players will chase wherever there's an opportunity to get. I'm not saying it's bad but I think players are just getting practical, but we can't deny the fact that there are also players that will play on other leagues as long as it has satisfying contract. In the NBA, we can still see some players that reject offers because they want to remain faithful on the franchise.

Do you think we will get to see players more often rejecting huge contracts just remain faithful to a league or a franchise or the other way around?

For example, Sandro Tonali is moving from Newcastle to Tottenham, so there’s no career progression in moving from a team not competing in European competitions to another that hasn’t qualified. It’s certainly a better contract.

That’s a nice analysis, but I don’t think that’s how it is. If we want to look at the world’s best players right now, I think the most appropriate criterion would be to look at the most expensive ones.

How many of the world’s top 10 most expensive players do you think are in the Premier League? Let me tell you something that might surprise you: right now, that number is 1, and that’s Erling Haaland. Of the remaining players, 5 are in La Liga, 3 are in Ligue 1, and 1 is in the Bundesliga.

The Premier League may have higher-valued players or produce higher-quality soccer, but overall, I think the best players are still spread out across other leagues.

Joining the premier league alone carries more prestige. Even though the club you joined is mid level. As long as you are in premier League, you've entered another new era of probably fame and boast. The league is big no doubt. And players are willing to go mid club just the join. But that does not change anything for European league. There are still dope elite clubs there that players too aspire to join. So it's all about players preference.
