People may decide to invest for different purposes, not everyone has the same purpose. Since Bitcoin has a limited supply, many people may invest in it as a scarce asset in the long term. Another reason may be decentralization. The system of Bitcoin is such that you do not have to rely on any single institution. Some may also invest for their financial independence. Many have the purpose of saving for future protection. Bitcoin can store value in the long term, so many people invest in it for future protection. Then there are also some people who are just here to trade.

And for someone just starting out, what is one important thing you think I should understand before investing?

As an investor, you should understand at the beginning that Bitcoin cannot make anyone rich overnight. Although Bitcoin is a strong asset in the long term, it does not guarantee the future. Its price in the market always fluctuates. You should invest money that you cannot touch for a long time. Also, as a long-term investor, it is important to gradually learn about self-custody, security, and wallets.

People invest in bitcoin because if you compare it to banks the interest is quite higher than the banks interest at the same time , in banks there is a fee's being deduct to the money when you don't deposit, unlike bitcoin the interest is when the value of bitcoin goes up same with your money, that is converted.
But also maybe because, people are tire of money that are being hostage sometimes by the banks, when i was putting money in bank, they were so happy but when I'm withdrawing the money they have lots of questions as if they are the one owning it, and is very suspicious.

I understand what you mean. I also think the control banks have over people’s money can be frustrating sometimes. But as a beginner, I’m still trying to understand Bitcoin better, especially the risks involved because the price can also go down. Do you think Bitcoin is a better option for long-term savings than keeping money in a bank? And what would you advise someone who is just starting out?

These four things I have listed above are the things I believe makes people to invest in Bitcoin, as for me I am investing in Bitcoin because I want to make profit from it in the future and I also want to protect my money from inflation.

What could made people decide to invest in Bitcoin?

The answer varies from person to person but what I know is that as an individual and generally speaking, the first reason is for the longtime profitability. Most individual who invest in bitcoin especially low income earners, they do that not majorly for inflation hedges or financial freedom but to have an additional money on the investment. The reason for this view regards to the additional money is that, the first categories of investors are the low income earners. Most low income earners may not have discretional money to hodl in bitcoin and escape inflation on it. So when they invest, they basically target short term increase. You can notice this if you have held bitcoin for a third party, they immediately want to sell off at a slight increase in price.

However, same may not be said for high income earners which are the second categories. They may be intentional about financial freedom, hodling against inflation and purposefully avoiding government monitoring of their finance if it were in the bank. And, the institutions for me are the third categories. They are purposeful and intentional about growth, security, lack of manipulation because of fixed supply, hedge against inflation and every other thing concerning the advantages of investment.

Don't invest in bitcoin if you don't have discretional money. That is, if you don't have extra money, then it won't be a good thing to lock your money in bitcoin because its increase is not automatic. If you are looking for an instant profit, disabuse your mind from investing in bitcoin because you can be unlucky to invest at the wrong time when price is going down and your money will be locked up in loses.

Those reasons are amongst the major reasons why many people invest in bitcoin, among them is also freedom. Freedom of ownership of funds without having your money with a centralized/third party body. This reasons us amongst the major reasons for invention of bitcoin and Satoshi’s view on it being used as an alternative to the traditional fiat currency.

Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme, if you’re coming with such mindset, you should have a rethink to that and see it as an investment that when you dedicate your time and patience to it, you’ll reap the fruits later. One thing you should also know before you start your investment is knowing about privacy and security of your wallets. If you don’t know this two and go ahead to start your investment in Bitcoin, you’ll be more likely exposed to danger that could make you lose your investment.

I chose BTC over anything because of its scarcity. It made me profit that I never made from trading, although I lost again in trading, but that's not the point. BTC did what I wanted it to. It is easy to understand BTC compared to other things.

It gives us not just the freedom of finances, but now it gives us the freedom of speech as well. You want to publish content, an image, or something, you can do that on the BTC blockchain via inscriptions. The data will stay secure. Someone back in that inscription era uploaded Afghanistan US war files here. Never got to see them as I was not interested, but I know we can do it.

If investing and making a profit is your (OP) wish, then understand halving and cycles first. That helped me the most in believing and having patience in BTC.

In my opinion investors have different motivations for investing in Bitcoin.  There are those who think it can help to beat inflation on their savings, others do believe that it has a long term potential,  and others simply enjoy the thought of owning an asset that they have some control over rather than relying entirely on a bank.

And as someone who is new to Bitcoin investment,  you should not invest with funds that is needed for your everyday expenses. Bitcoin can be very volatile, so when you invest with your discretionary income, all these short term price movement will have no effect on you. Lastly it's also important to understand what you're investing into, do not just jump into Bitcoin because you heard from a friend that you can make quick profit from Bitcoin.

Welcome to the forum mate. If you are just starting my advice would be do not invest before you understand what you are buying. Learn how Bitcoin works why the 21 million supply matters how self custody works and most importantly how financial market works and what is your short term and long term goals. I have many friends who start investing in bitcoin and became the liquidity for more experienced traders because investing needs patience strategy and knowledge they think they will invest 100$ and in few days they get filthy money which is not possible. No doubt just like other assets bitcoin also give people a guarantee profits but if you have a proper strategy. And honestly there are also many other assets in the world but if you want a higher return bitcoin will be one of them you can also compare it with other assets from the past 10 years.

And surely, that is already enough reason why anyone would want to invest.. I have only been involved in bitcoin accumulation for two years but as far as I know and my understanding is that most people involved in Bitcoin investment are concerned about the value of their currency, simply put Bitcoin can be a hedging asset and also an asset to achieve financial freedom in the future, I believe it is because Bitcoin's track record has proven it since it was first created.

And one thing you have to understand before you start is make sure you understand that Bitcoin is still a risky asset, which means investing an amount of money that would otherwise not be used for the necessities of life, that's all.

To invest what you can afford to lose and apart from that, you have to understand that Bitcoin is highly volatile. So you don't get surprised by seeing that it has moved a lot from this day to the next day. If you're weak in feelings and heart, that might discourage you if there's a sudden dump. But if you get to realize that it's going to pass, you'll see how improved you are eventually when some fluctuations happen.

Recently, I realized that most people coming into Bitcoin are people who want money, like for investment purposes, which, for me, we can't blame them; that is one of the many benefits Bitcoin can give, and Bitcoin has already proven it for all over the past years.
What's only issue is these people are too greedy that does not learning anymore how Bitcoin works, even the basics and later if they will lose money = they will blame Bitcoin.
