The drug case against president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the US

The case in 1993 was a civil case and not a criminal case. The president was not even charge to court,he was not sentence or convicted of drug related matter and at such he is not drug lord. People often get confused of the word civil case and a criminal case. In 2023 , the supreme court of Nigeria said that Atiku Abubakar and his team was unable to prove that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu was convicted in the US for drug related matter. In civil matters, the person in question is not charged to court but properties, money,houses,cars etc. The records shows that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not go into plea bargain and he was not convicted of any criminal matter so this case that is flying here and there is dead on arrival.

One thing I want you to understand in this regard is that once you have the power and influence, the law will not affect you the most, this is how it has always been except that you are not being supported by others that are in place to determine your fate, politics is a game and they run it with money, therefore forget about what you see people do, but who they have and the backup they rely on.

Do you know the number of people that have been convicted as a result of drug trafficking and other related offenses, because they are just being used by the drug lords and they were caught without anyone to appear in defense for them, unlike the prominent musicians and other politicians that are into drugs deals and no one is suspecting them for such.

The system has made it a way that once you are in the corridors of power or an influencer who has connections you can do whatever pleases you and go scout free because you have the money and connections to pay and bribe any authorities that wants to see the law prevail and that's what we are seeing in the case of Tinubu, ordinary he won't have become President of Nigeria if he was prosecuted by the US government and they made mention of it in 2023 and didn't further the case why coming to talk about it again when justice will not be served?,.

We have been hearing rumours that the president is a drug lord and we are meant to believe it because almost everyone in Nigeria knows about that story and it can't just be a made up story to implicate the president if he wasn't into it, let the law prevail and shouldn't be a respecter of persons, he should be convicted and prosecuted if found guilty.

Op I understand that you want to make everybody come to the realization of the believe they had about him that seems to be wrong to you but however you should have also back up your defense on him by showing us were it was written that he was not convicted so that everybody would see and read the truth for themselves but however whether is true or not I don't think it changed anything because he is already our president and the most powerful person in the country but there is one thing that makes people to doubt anything you are being accused of and that's integrity and helping the country with the position they gave you but since he couldn't do that is hard for people to see him as a responsible person.

I did small digging into the alleged by the OP and the OP isn’t exactly wrong about it. Tinubu was never convicted on these matters and on that base, it would be wrong to allege such.

However, with the case being a civil case, the US government actually filed for the forfeiture of properties and funds related to the accused as proceeds from trafficking narcotics and heroine rather than pursue a criminal case. Tinubu and other accused didn’t dispute the fact but rather, argued on the bases for the forfeiture and was able to reach a settlement.

So, it would be correct to say he was involved in drug trafficking as alleged, a position strengthened by going for settlement rather than maiming an actual case but, he wasn’t convicted of drug trafficking.

The sensitive nature of these kind of allegations isn’t something that comes into doubt when you hear certain US agencies speaking on these things. The fact that a settlement was reached means, there are some truth to it however, it was contained indoors.

It only becomes relevant today because, you have people seeking it out. That’s why, it’s alleged the Tinubu through his attorney has filed for all records related to such case should be withheld to ensure his privacy.

Politics is always about looking for means to discredit your opposition and this no different. We just hope it’s not at the expense of rigging votes which would be making decisions for the entire country.

Nothing is stopping President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from winning the 2027 election, if the Nigerians like they should bring more of his corrupt case against him and let the public know he will still win the election, I know that we all are tired of him, because of his regime and how the country become the worst country in the world, but we should not forget that it has been like a culture now that every Nigerian president or a governor must do 8 years in office, which of the president has done one year and left the office?

Well, you may be right because our three arms of government have been bought off by this APC-led government. The US, time will tell whether they were given a chunk of dollars not to release the Tinubu drug case.

OP, I want to take it to you that it is only in Africa that this shit can happen, for Tinubu to be the president. If it were a Western country, Tinubu would have been behind bars, not even verging on being a president of the country. Tinubu knows that; that's why he doesn't want this drug case against him to be released by the US.

Let's just see what happens before 2027 because Nigeria needs to be saved from the hands of these Unscrupulous leaders

All this Tinubu drug case, I just see it as politics the united state are using on Tinubu to probably get some bargaining power over him. I want to believe the US actually has some evidences or another material is pseudo which they  are using the drugs as cover to threaten Tinubu to buy into their bargains else the president would have challenged them ever since to release whatever claims they kept saying they have. I don’t think I’ve seen any of such and the presidency would have also filed a lawsuit against the US government for accusing him or labeling him with a derogatory statement like drug baron and so on and if it was also not a direct threat from the US then those online news papers would have been sued too.

The case never went to trial,it was settled. Oct 4,1993 US district judge John A. Nordberge ordered that $460,000 be forfeited to the US authorities or government. Funds in separate account and any amount above $460,000 in other bank accounts were released back to Tinubu under same agreement. The matter was dismissed with prejudice on Sept 21,1993.  The bottom line is the man was not charge to court,was never tried in court,was not sentence or convicted in the US for any crime. By perjury means the case will not be reopened by any one.. Former president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo wanted Lagos state by all means in 1999 and his second term bid as a president, and would have used that case against Tinubu if really he was convicted.

Why is it that once it is election season in Nigeria news of such start flying up and down? Atiku that is pioneering this current allegations against Tinubu was same person that said he protected Tinubu in the past, why do Nigerians like playing politics of when the candidate is on my side he should be covered even when he is wrong then when they realize that the politician is no longer on their side they start looking for ways to bring him down.

Is there any great man without a past? so why is Tinubu own so different that year in year out they keep on digging one thing or the other about him, first they said he didn’t go to school but the Chicago State University said that Tinubu graduated from there university with a degree in 1979, now they have brought back his drugs case just to frustrate his second term bid, Atiku in question that is pioneering the case doesn’t he have numerous skeletons in his cupboard? Am not supporting Tinubu don’t misquote me because from my analysis the Nigerian economy has done very poorly under the Tinubu APC administration, insecurity has also been on a rise under his administration but to me Nigerians should be more focused on voting him out due to his poor leadership pattern rather than his past life history because their is no great man without an ugly past, this drug case was brought by Obi too during and after the last elections and it held no waters so to me bringing them up won’t change anything, every Nigerian should simply get their PVC and vote the best candidate of their choice to govern them.
