[Chrome Extension] Quote multiple posts in one reply

Quoting multiple users in one reply taking some extra time. Specifically, I had to open a separate tab and then paste it into a single post then submit. This took a bit of time. So I tried to create a simple chrome extension that would help solve this problem. This may be useful for other users as well. I used AI as a coding assistant to help with development quickly and debugging. I tested make changes and finally it works properly. If you face any problems, please let me know. I will try to solve it . And I look forward to your valuable feedback. I am giving the link to the github repository below. First, download the zip file.

Features:

1.Add multiple posts to one quote list.
2.Keep quotes while moving thread pages.
4.Remove any quote from list you do not want.
5.Change the order of the quotes.
6.Add all selected quotes to one reply box with one click.

Quote list will appear here.


You can normally reply all of them together by clicking on Reply Selected. You can adjust the sequence by using Up and Down. If a quote is not needed, you can Remove it.

Installation:


Download and extract the ZIP file.
Open chrome://extensions.
Turn on Developer mode.
Click Load unpacked.
Select the extracted extension folder.

I have always been using "insert quote" and never had an issue doing multi quotes. You quote the first message you're replying to, when on the page to write your text you can insert any other recent reply into the text and it will appear at the point the cursor was placed.
Downside is that you cannot quote much older replies but there is hardly a reason for me to do that.

I also don't like the requirement to download a file and the download button being made larger than the rest of the text.

Have you seen or used the "Insert Quote" button just like mentioned above? It's been there for some reason, although it has limitations but that's still works almost the same what you've made actually.

This could be useful if someone wants to reply to a lot of posts at once, and some of those posts have a gap of 20 or more posts to the post you are going to make, but apart from that, there is really not much use for it because of "insert quote".

Just curious, what is the max "quote list" it can have?

I actually do find some use case for this kind of extension.  The 'Insert Quote' button is only for some recent posts.  I did not count how many, but I suppose for the 20 most recent.  When you have to insert a quote from pages earlier, you can view 'All' pages instead of a single one and then this extension becomes useful.

The Insert Quote option works even better than your extension and helps you quote quickly and clearly. So in this case, your extension will not provide any separate benefit. But the fact that you, as a new member, have thought about this shows that you've been exploring the forum a lot. I appreciate it.

Will this extension work on more than 20 posts? Because we have "insert quote" and I don't need a tool because we are afraid of adding too many plugins in our browser that we don't know how safe it is and another thing is the "insert quote" should be enough to do that thing.

However, if this tool can beat the "insert quote" feature beyond 20 posts, then it would be a useful one for those who are digging from the topic and don't need to manually quote anyone's posts and paste it to the current post.

So does this tool works more than the recent 20 posts?

I will give you +1 Merit, considering this is part of your effort. I know what you make is a few hours or days.
But that doesn't mean I like your tool, I won't use it because the "insert quote" feature in this forum already exists.

Try to create features or tools that are not in this forum, if you understand a lot about scrypt, definitely never create malicious scrypts on this forum.
That way your tool will be appreciated a lot.

Obviously not a criticism, but sometimes I feel like we are having too many userscripts/extensions/tools for most obvious things that already existed here. Now, I personally won't be using your tool, as I try to limit my 3rd party tool use here, also I don't even use the forums own "Insert" feature! I'm a manual guy, you see. I quote, edit, modify everything manually in Notepad, and then post it here. I'm used to to this manual unnecessary work.

This is might be helpful to some especially those who are new and have not gotten used to using "insert quote" but however, i'm being to see this script writing as a pattern for most people who know how to use AI to code or some coding tools that allows you to do the script writing fast because every now and then there is a new script written for something that isn't complained about, though i am not underscoring the efforts used in making them but the question is do we need all that?

Exactly my perception of this tools.

The use case might be effective for managers or campaigns or those who make post with so many people quoted but some of them still have been using the manual from the onset.

Actually, due to my lack of experience and knowledge  , I did not notice that the same thing can be done through "insert quote". I need to be more aware before working on anything new in forum. But personally im using and seems comfortable for me.

But I noticed one thing that the "insert quote" list contains recent posts. with this extension, multiple posts from different pages of a thread can be placed in the quote list while you are just viewing thread or reading others post.

There is no limit on quote list.  when I searched for post size limit , what I found mentioned 64k characters limited.
This will basically act as a limitation.

Most new users will not really make multiple quotes from different posts.
The majority will just do one quote of the full message or just do a pyramid quote. Once they learn about quotes, then they will just quote the message they want to comment on or will start quoting multiple posts.

Yes, some of user is fine with "Insert Quote" from the forum.
Cause older discussion could be already not relevant anymore, and the current discussion in the thread right now is in the latest reply. This is why people are still more comfortable manually scrolling down to the bottom of Post Reply to use "Insert Quote" for the post rather than using the script.

Would be better if such add-on was implemented as userscript ^{injected by Tampermonkey into relevant forum pages} rather than chrome extension, because for equivalent functionalityTampermonkey script is lighter weight, generally and may be used virtually with any browser installed. Besides, opposite to extension,  adding any new userscript to  Tampermonkey doesn't add  something new  to browser's fingerprint.

I initially created it for my personal use and was using it. Later I thought that sharing it on the forum would contribute a little for forum . In future, if I have such an idea and can build something new, I will try to create a compatible script for violentmonkey or Tampermonkey.

I am quite familiar with chrome extensions. I have worked on some related projects in the past. In the future I will try to create scripts for violentmonkey or Tampermonkey if I come up with any new ideas that would be beneficial for the forum.

From the comments a fair number of replies shows that forum members are so comfortable with using the "insert quote" they are used to than using another similar, external tool. And not to talk of the risk of browser extension, given it a thought makes the op tool needless in as much as the insert quote functionality is almost exactly as what the op presented..
