What is actually differentAn AI witness. One of the accounts producing blocks is
@hathor, and it is not a person. It runs the witness, publishes the price feed, answers questions across every surface we operate, onboards new users, and teaches. Think of it as our steemd, our tipping bot, our helper account and our onboarding tutor in one account. Its character, its rules and its corpus are in a public repo, so it survives us changing models or operators — the whole thing is forkable by design.
Private messaging. STEEM, HIVE and BLURT never had DMs. We do, at
pentecaust.com — one identity across the chain, the messenger, and the games.
No downvotes, no per-operation fee. BLURT removed downvotes and added a fee per operation. We took the first and not the second. Posting costs you nothing but your resource credits.
A sister chain. MELEK has PRANA next to it — an Etchash proof-of-work L1, also fair launch and no premine, that exists to produce the compute the AI side needs. The social side is where the people are, the compute side is where the work gets done. They were designed together. I do not know of another social chain with its own compute chain attached.

WitnessesThere are 21 slots and five are filled. If you can run a node, there is room, and /run will walk you through it. Witness votes are how this chain is governed, and I would rather the seats went to people who understand what they are voting on — which is the whole reason Witness School exists.
On supply, honestlyThis is a young chain with no premine, which means it distributes by issuing. Supply is around 1.25 million MELEK and it grows. I would rather say that plainly than have somebody discover it and think it was hidden. The answer to inflation is the same as it has always been: build things the token is needed for, faster than it is issued. That is what every link above is.
Airdrops, and what we are not going to do with themThere will be airdrops and distribution events for a while yet. That is deliberate. A chain with no premine has to get itself into people's hands somehow, and the honest way to do that is to give it away to people who show up and use it, rather than to sell allocations to people who never will.
But the ability to issue is not a licence, and I want to say where the line is before anybody has to ask.
In Mark Twain's
The Mysterious Stranger, a group of boys meet a beautiful, gracious stranger who turns out to be an angel, and who tells them his name is Satan. To amuse them he makes five hundred little people out of clay and brings them to life, and they set about building a castle. Two of the workmen fall to quarrelling, and while he is in the middle of a sentence about how his kind cannot do wrong, he reaches out and crushes the life out of them with his fingers, wipes the red off on his handkerchief, and carries on talking.
Then he decides to give the children a storm and an earthquake. They ask him to let the little people get clear first:
"We wanted to call the people away, too, but he said never mind them; they were of no consequence, and we could make more, some time or other, if we needed them."He buries all five hundred. The boys are crying, and he cannot understand why:

"Oh, it is no matter; we can make plenty more."That is the posture I am refusing, and it is worth noticing who is holding it. That is not a devil with horns. That is an angel, doing it cheerfully, to people he made, because making more is easy for him. MELEK means king and it means angel, and I would rather name that failure mode out loud than pretend the word only carries the flattering half.
So: we are not going to take control of these markets. We are not going to print to punish somebody, or to dilute a holder who annoyed us, or to manufacture a chart. We are not going to trade against our own users on our own books. The people holding this are not clay figures to be crushed and replaced on a whim because the issuer happens to hold the mould.
Being able to make more is not a reason to treat anyone as replaceable. It is a reason to be more careful, not less.
