Butcher of Bosnia is Serbian Hero

For those who are a little older, they remember the wars on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, especially on the territory of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the biggest criminals among the Serbs is the monster Ratko Mladic, who died a few days ago in prison where he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the genocide in Srebrenica, where he ordered the killing of over 8000 boys and men.

The Butcher of Bosnia returned to Serbia, where he was greeted by thousands of people celebrating him and his work, which was harshly condemned from Brussels, given that Serbia has been negotiating its entry into the EU for a long time. This only shows that Serbia and the people who live there have not changed at all, and that everyone who lives in the EU should know who they want to let become another EU member.

They are just extremists who regret that he didn't kill at least ten times more people than he did. The fact that he was transported to Serbia on a state plane, received with the highest honors and that he will be buried with the same honors, as they say, in the presence of tens of thousands of people, probably speaks for itself.

Serbia continues to deny any war crimes, hide information about victims and arm itself with offensive weapons. Its current leader was one of those who gave speeches in the occupied parts of Croatia and said that it was Serbia, and was also filmed with a rifle in his hand above occupied Sarajevo.

Ok, war is terrible thing, but people are looking into it from their country perspective. So, it's understandable that people support their leaders. But now we are talking about person who is responsible for genocide of civilians, biggest mass kiling since WWII. And it's not that just some people support him. Mladic is supported in Serbia on official level.
And when you see these things, it doesn't looks strange that significant part of people in Serbia support what Putin is doing in Ukraine now.

Ratko Mladic is a hero of Serbia, and I have no doubt that their Serbian Orthodox Church will one day declare him a saint. Not only is Mladic responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica, he was also the mastermind in the siege of Sarajevo in which around 12 000 people were killed, including around 500 children. Serbian butchers weren't satisfied with killing civilians, they were also bringing rich foreigners on human safaris and making a lot of money from it. Investigations into this are also underway in several European countries.

The shelling infuriated world opinion, notably two devastating attacks on the city’s busy Markale Market; in the first of these attacks 68 Sarajevans died and 142 were wounded, while in the second 43 died and 84 were injured. In May 1996 NATO launched air strikes against Bosnian Serb troops, eventually forcing them to accept the Dayton Accords, which lifted the siege that, all told, killed an estimated 11,540 people in the city, including at least 500 children. In November 2017 the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague sentenced the commander of the Bosnian Serb forces, Ratko Mladić, to life imprisonment for war crimes

The fact that such a country is negotiating to become a member of the EU literally disgusts me, and if they ever do, it will be a shameful day for the entire EU.

This is the world we live in. To them, he is a hero despite the atrocities he had committed. From my country's civil war, the ones who led the war and caused the death of 2 million civilians are celebrated as heroes today by a section of the country. Horrible people are celebrated in this world. People who start unnecessary wars and cause the death of millions are called heroes. People don't try to look at things from the perspective of the victims if they're not affected. None of those people tries to put themselves in the shoes of the loved ones who have been killed. This is why you have people supporting wars in Iran and Ukraine.

Some people are just self-centered. They don't give a damn about what happens to others because they lack empathy. These Serbians who are celebrating a butcher don't care how the families who have lost loved ones feel.

Every July 21, Belgium celebrates King Leopold 11 during their National Day. But the same King caused the deaths of about 10 million Congolese people. His brutal rule was characterized by extreme violence, torture, and mutilation. There are different statues celebrating slave traders in Europe, while Africans see them as devils. 

Until we learn how to feel the pain of others, events like the heroic welcome of Ratko Mladic will not cease.

Every July 21, Belgium celebrates King Leopold 11 during their National Day. But the same King caused the deaths of about 10 million Congolese people. His brutal rule was characterized by extreme violence, torture, and mutilation. There are different statues celebrating slave traders in Europe, while Africans see them as devils. 

I think there are a lot of such cases in Europe, considering that many European countries were colonizers who did a lot of bad things to the countries they came to. Africa, Central and South America and Australia are obvious examples of what some European countries did to the people who lived there and whose home it was.

Perhaps this is also the reason for the very mild displeasure of EU officials who reacted only after the protests from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but did not yet take any concrete steps - because for those who did not know, Serbia is very important for the EU due to its mineral wealth and the current government is heavily financed by the German government (which was discovered a few months ago).

The Serbian football fans just showed that they are ordinary hooligans who support war criminals - the inscription under the figure of Ratko Mladic says - The direction of Potocari - which would literally mean that they suggest that they should go to the place where that criminal killed over 8000 people - of course not to pay tribute to the victims, but to continue killing.

I would like to think that not all Serbs are like that.  In fact, I am sure of it.  The main reason why several thousand people turned out for the funeral of the "Butcher of Bosnia" Mladic and why he was sent off with the highest military and state honors is because of the current government led by President Vucic, whose rule largely follows the legacy of the war criminal Slobodan Milosevic.

The ruling regime in Belgrade actively promotes revisionism.  They glorify convicted criminals to stay in power and distract from domestic failure.

Giving state honors to a warlord proves Serbia is not ready for EU membership.  Brussels is delusional if they think Vucic is serious about reform.  He was a radical nationalist back then, and he is playing the same dirty game today.

Treating Mladic like a hero is a total insult to the thousands of families he destroyed.  But blaming every single Serb just gives Vucic and his propaganda machine exactly what he wants.  He is playing dirty political games with the EU, pretending to want membership and taking millions of euros from EU funds, while on the other hand, maintaining close political and trade relations with Putin and Russia, which is the biggest threat to all of Europe at the moment.

I would like to think that not all Serbs are like that.  In fact, I am sure of it.

They are not all the same, but the facts are indisputable - the majority of them elected the same people who actively participated in the politics of Slobodan Milosevic for the last 30+ years. The continuity of this policy is clearly visible (for those who want to see), but for some others who are blinded by other things, this is clearly not the case.

I had the opportunity to see what these people are capable of doing, and if they ever have the opportunity to do it again, most of them won't hesitate for a moment.

Those other Serbs who are not as bad as the first ones organized counter-protests? Of course they are not, and if they are silent about such things then they are the same as those who celebrate genocide in public places.

Not sure that Vucic can be called as dictator, but such behaviour reminds some dictators from central Asia, Caucasus or Turkey. They're trying to sit on 2 chairs on the same time. They want to do business with West, but on the same time they want to keep good relationships with Russia.
Or you don't even have to be dictator, enough to look at Fico or Orban examples. Benefiting from EU money and licking Putin's ass on the same time. Why I bring Russia here? Because supporting Russia is same as praising war criminal like Mladic.

You know, we have some people from Serbia on Bitcointalk. It would be interesting to here opinion from average Serbian, not politician, how they can praise someone like Mladic.

I believe some of these leaders who commit this heinous crimes  are heroes to their compatriots, so sometimes the new generation of persons that come up to read the history of this guys believe that they were unsung heros that needs to be celebrated, the history that will be written for them to read will be twisted in a way that they present this guys as heroes. Just as it is in Nigeria where some persons believe Ojukwu was their hero during the biafra and Nigerian civil war, but if you come to a city like Port Harcourt and they tell you some of the atrocities that were done by the biafrans soldiers, then you begin to ask yourself a different question of if these guys are actually heroes with the kind of wanton destruction they did. Same thing is being ascribe to General Gowon, it was recorded that 3 million Eastern children and persons died during that uncivil war, but if you go to the history books it is presented as though Gowon was the hero that makes your Nigeria remained one despite this atrocities that we are done.
