The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) said it moved its gold reserves to ensure it is “better prepared for severe crises.” The bank didn't say what it meant by the phrase "severe crisis."

The US is fighting an expensive war in Iran and other parts of the Middle East. The country is also having trade wars with different countries, including its close neighbour Canada. And these tariff wars are affecting the economy negatively. The US is also having strained relationships with its longtime ally, Europe.

DNB further said that it moved $10bn of its gold from the US for easier trading and safety. But considering the US as a safer economy than the US is suspicious. Maybe due to economic and political instabilities, countries are seeing the US as economically unsafe.

Just like when we are discussing about bitcoin, if it is not your keys it is not your coins. Countries also need to understand that if the gold is not in their country, it is not their gold. If there is war between the countries, that will be when they will understand just like Russia later understood.

France has moved all its gold from United States. It moved some in July 2025 and moved the rest this year January I think.

Dutch moving it from United States to the UK could be a political game. Many European members do not like Trump. Many among them will even want its tenure to end as soon as possible.

Donald Trump has repeatedly shown his words are worthless and you cannot trust him further than you can throw him. Americas reputation has taken an incredible battering since he managed to take power a second time, the first time was bad enough. He is only interested in enriching his own family while distracting people by spreading hate and war. The UK has done it's share of stupid shit too, but at least they seem to have stayed relatively neutral and sane so far, even with their EU referendum to leave. It just makes sense to move the physical gold much closer to home and there is no longer a benefit to storing it in America. Not only that, nothing surprises people about Trump these days, so it wouldn't even be a shock if he tried to steal or confiscate gold.. he's stealing Venezuela's oil after kidnapping their president remember.

This is like the rats fleeing the sinking ship. There is definitely an air of negativity around the
US economy and there is probably other movements happening as we speak that have not
surfaced yet, if at all.

There is a chance we will see the corrupt european Oligarchs moving stuff around trying to
protect their illegal stash. Absolutely couldnt give a flying duck about any of them. They are
fleeing each other, we should be fleeing them ASAP.

Why do you call them rats? They are doing the smart thing. The West was stupid to provoke Russia. Now they are trying to decide who'll pay for the war expenses. Everybody wants Ukraine to win but nobody wants to pay.

I wouldn't keep my money in an insolvent bank either. Same logic. The Dutch invented banking ffs. They can smell insolvency from a thousand miiileees away. And the US... they are insolvent as fuck. Surely, they can print more like they did in the last few decades... Let's see how that's gonna work out.

Moving centralized asset from one platform to another, or from country to another country does not solve the problem like having an alternative to the use of a decentralized digital network, if they truly wanted to prevent economic loss from those assets they have under the traditional investment day have made on gold and other physical asset, they had better consider Bitcoin in order to take advantage to enage in quick recovery over the alterations they are facing on different sides.

Its an analogy used in the shipping trade, the rats are disliked and hard to eradicate from the ship,
when the ship ends up sinking the rats will be seen swimming free.

Similarly we dont particularly like banks they are the root of the evil in the world and when a state is
in the early stages of financial trouble they will be the first to save themselves.

In terms of Ukraine/Russia war and paying the expenses - well that will be on the shoulders of the
Ukranians for many years to come, the country will be stripped of its wealth to pay for all the weapons
and aid it has received. European and US corporations will be in there to rebuild at the expense of
Ukraines remaining wealth. Thats how the European banking system and Oligarchs prevail and have done
for hundreds of years with the "British Empire" being the main example. They are parasites.

And they will need Ukraine to defeat Russia in some way probably by getting Putin removed so they
can start the process again, control the government, and use Russian military resources to attack
China, and on and on it goes for many more hundreds of years.

Printing more money is one of the main reasons we are having this discussion, yea they will print more
and debase their currency even more.

I would love to start with why sudden high tarrifs, fiscal pressure on some of the major reserve currencies is a major cause why this Dutch central bank is moving their gold closer to home in case of a worse case scenario where tensions arise and there is the need for cash flow.

Trump isn't making anyone or country feel easy with such economic policies he could concort overnight to his benefits and the expense of other countries economic system.
It's of course a strategic move from the DNB moving about 86 metric tonnes of gold to England.
I think France also did something similar by moving their reserve asset closer to home, maybe they are all foreseeing a tide that is coming. Who knows?

I agree with almost everything you have said. Ok lets check the sources you referenced

The Dutch central bank says it has moved 86 tonnes of its gold reserves out of the US and Canada to London, citing “increasing geopolitical unrest”.

In view of increasing geopolitical unrest, DNB is strengthening its crisis preparedness

The majority of your references said the main reason was geopolitical tension or unrest. It is showing that during the time of crisis, the US might not be reliable. Trump can go as far as freezing or seizing a country's gold to bully them.

Saying that the US would not support the UK in the Falkland Islands issue is frightening. Most European nations are afraid of the US's unstable foreign policies.

It's sad to see the president of the US looking for trouble with his own strongest allies. I never thought a day would come when Canada and the US would be in such disagreement over something that can easily be resolved by respectful negotiations. It is also important to note that the US has not respected Canada at all. They even went as far as saying "Canada don't have a military". I mean, this is the same miitary that has forught alongside the US many times.
All these petty behaviours of changing the names of lakes and all seem so childish. This is just like the petty behaviour of high school divas.

I don't think the Netherlands took out all their gold from Canada and the US. If the total amount taken out from both countries is actually around $10 billion, then they still have some more in both countries because the total worth of Dutch ggold held in the US alone is around $13 billion.

Just like when we are discussing about bitcoin, if it is not your keys it is not your coins. Countries also need to understand that if the gold is not in their country, it is not their gold. If there is war between the countries, that will be when they will understand just like Russia later understood.

It makes sense to have a portion of your gold reserve in foreign countries.
There was a reason countries did this, and there was a reason a lot of countries chose the US after the Second World War.
One of the reasons is geopolitical conflict in their home country. When you diversify your asset protects it against certain risks. Different countries have different assets in other countries.
The Netherlands has a gold reserve in Canada, the US, the UK and of course, in the Netherlands.
Also, they are allies, so no big deal to keep their assets there.

I know what it means, you are saying it like they are doing a bad thing.

In my view, rats are very smart.

They jump the ship before sheeple notice what's happening. That's exactly how you win in the financial markets. You make your move before the masses wake up to the facts.

When everybody takes the same trade, the profit margins disappear.

Rats are the best traders.

The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) said it moved its gold reserves to ensure it is “better prepared for severe crises.” The bank didn't say what it meant by the phrase "severe crisis."
This smart move by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) might be cool, but I hope they don't send unnecessary signal wave to the market that could create unnecessary crisis indeed. Imagine the way you emphasised on the "severe crisis," I am sure that individuals and corporations would be weighing that as well. Moving it to London market is a good idea because they have easier access away from Trump and its policies, and for the fear of restrictions if issues starts, which is unlikely.

The London market is a shield and would sell faster, if need be. But this doesn't mean there is a problem or there will be one, but some kind of insurance, a safety measure only, and possibly political as well. And for those who don't know, the move didn't just happened now, or should I said didn't happen at once, it was gradual. The 86 tonnes of gold were relocated between March and August 2026. The US might have had the major blow, but about 9% of it was also moved from Ottawa reserve in Canada.

They're not the only country and ally who have moved their gold from  US. In the past we have seen Germany, Turkey and also France.

And I don't think they have moved these gold to the UK because they are improved or something, because they're still the same western systems, I think it is mainly because they do not have no more trust in Donald Trump. Seeing how they collected the Venezuela gold should be enough lesson to any country observing and watching closely. And with the United States in great debt, they will do anything to see these debts dropped.

Why do all these nations move their gold to the United States though? Why not hold it themselves?!

I think that's a wise move from the Dutch, reducing it's Gold exposure from US and diversifying it elsewhere seems like a good move in midst of war times.
Trump cannot be trusted after the recent tariff spikes he has imposed on many nations.
If there occurs a conflict between US and some nation who has it's Gold reserves in the US, then Trump can certainly freeze that Gold and restrict its movement to them.
The thing is, if all the nations start following the same approach then there will be a huge amount of Gold leaving the US. This might create a stress on their economy.

This falls under the same category as dedollarization in my opinion. It is under a parent category which I always called de-Americanization. In short various countries around the world aren't just dumping the dollar, they are also decoupling from US and that isolates US more and more. As the Dutch said the reason is "geopolitical uncertainty". They simply have no faith in the future of US...

This is the end of unipolar world.

The old gold storage they had was an antique holding, legacy of bygone eras.   The current revitalization of gold markets has made it far more tradable and important in the array of foreign reserves a country relies on.
The reorganization of the gold allowed their central bank to control a fungible tradable form of gold holding that could be utilized quickly as if cash which it is, the old form would have taken weeks or months to make arrangements for.  Its probably just that simple and Im not sure they will be selling especially but they want the option to do so.

There is enough excuse for the Netherlands to do this that there is no offence meant or taken by the NYC FED or anyone else, its rationalization of a rising market.
