Having a hardware wallet isn't a good idea anymore. I'd probably ditch it, write down my seed phrase on a piece of paper, and enter it every time I log into any Sparrow Wallet.

I think a lot of people are exaggerating because of what happened with coldwallet, and because of the database leak of those who bought a hardware wallet. Such things unfortunately happen and can be avoided if you do some things differently - for example, to order a hardware wallet in a PO Box, or to buy it for cash in a physical store if possible.

As for your plan, it can work if your computer is not at some point infected with a keylogger, RAT or other type of virus/malware that will deliver your seed to a remote server.

I’d hide the hardware device in a pair of socks at the bottom of my wardrobe. I’d then have a couple of copies of my seed in different locations. Maybe a safety deposit box in a bank or something and bury the other copy in waterproof casing.

Specifically to your case @OP , the last thing that I will do would be to have an hardware wallet in a situation like this.
I would not be appear too obvious, but initially there was no hardware wallets for storing bitcoin and these are still not necessary at all for a proper setup.
It is not to say "it is not good anymore". Bitcoin has been designed to be used SAFELY without relying on a third party. Thats all... hardware wallet included into this list.

Hot or cold wallet, it does not take too much time to set it up. It takes a little bit more time if you want to set up a multisig wallet but most people don't use multisig wallets so in general, they can create their wallets easily and quickly.

It's only they must to learn and practice wallet creation safely and securely that includes making wallet backups properly.

Keep that box locked and keep the key in a secret place or with you at all times. Alarm system is not a solution because everyone in the house is your family member, if someone touches that protected locker system the alarm will be activated which can be annoying for others.

Keeping personal belongings safe can often be a difficult task if the family has a large number of members who may have access to any important family space. As a result, a Bitcoin holder has to look for alternative storage solutions. If Bitcoin is never discussed within the family, other members are less likely to suspect that someone has it. Keeping a Bitcoin hardware wallet in a place that is within reach of other family members is certainly unsafe. But everyone has a personal place that only they have access to and the wallet can be kept there. If the holder has any doubts about the security of that place, it is better to store the wallet somewhere else.

In my opinion, security is increased if the holder keeps the hardware wallet in a secret place and stores the seed phrase in multiple places without sharing it with anyone.

Also, having a large family does not mean that there is a lack of privacy. Each family has its own personal storage space for individuals. Therefore, I believe that it will not be difficult for anyone planning to keep Bitcoin to find a safe place for it.

If you have a safe beside your bed like you mentioned, the question is what type of safe is that? Is it those type that has lock? There are many safe that has lock but if this one you are talking about doesn't have a lock, I will suggest you buy a safe or box that have lock, so that you can lock it and go out with the key if you are leaving the house. Secondly, you should not keep your wallet back key in that same safe but rather in a different safe location.

I also live in a family house where everyone has access to anything. But, if they do not see value in an item, they will not go close to it. Even with that, there are still some personal belongings family members respect. Know the kind of family you have; will they try to steal from you if they know that you have some bitcoins and they know what the bitcoin is worth? If they are like that, then you should avoid discussing bitcoin with anyone. They should store their bitcoins in such a way that it does not raise suspicion. Do not forget to protect your seedphrase and backup properly. You must not keep your hardware wallet at home, there should be other options available.

How secure would his Bitcoin wallet on his personal computer really be in such an environment?  Personally, I would feel very uncomfortable leaving my computer unattended for any length of time knowing that I have critical personal information on it.
i get wanting to stay low profile around nosey family or roommates, but an internet-connected PC is a terrible place for cold storage.  malware, clipboard hijackers, and keyloggers hack computers every single day.  And nosey family members or roommates are just the icing on the cake.  Even when password protected, a PC has far more attack vectors than a simple hardware wallet.

Why doesn't he consider moving out of that place? Living in conditions like that is simply uncomfortable. He has little privacy and he never really knows what's on the minds of other family members, especially when they find out that he has Bitcoin. Putting an alarm on the safe isn't enough either.

If I'm living in a crowded house, first thing I will do is to ensure that no one knows I'm investing in Bitcoin or that i own a hardware wallet.  after that I will get a small safe box and hide it in a secured location instead hiding it beside my bed.  As for the private keys, I will keep it in a separate location instead keeping with my hardware wallet in the same safe box.  Because if both are kept in the same place steal them won't be difficult, at least if someone successfully finds my hardware wallet they would need the private keys to access it and vise versa.

That's hard, the same in my culture where we're family oriented and it can be as many families as it can be cohabiting together. But putting an alarm system is good and that will give them the idea that they shouldn't touch your belonging. I think make yourself as a strict person so that they'd know their boundaries. They won't be touching your things as soon as you have shown them how aggressive you are when it's with your matters and belongings. I can't think of any other solution aside from renting your own apartment and think of it as a monthly payment for your safety and your security.

Bro, it is easy. You don't buy a normal bedside drawer, but build or buy one with built in hiding spots like the one in the picture.

It is not so good, but once you search on Pinterest, you can find many similar ideas that you can even build at home, or you can purchase from any furniture store.

It is not a big deal. It is not like the owners of the stores are going to come to your house looking for these hidden spots, so I don't think that's a big deal. Just buy one or two, place your hardware device in it and lock it. Once you lock the drawer, no one would force their way in unless they are thieves.

The hardware wallet handling in a safe is already creating more suspension around his Bitcoin investments and from the way he handles it make It look as if he have large amount of Bitcoin already, is more safe and secured when you keep your Bitcoin holding in privacy as much as possible, and saving your wallet key, in a safe and secured private place is the most appropriate thing to do as a Bitcoin holder who worries about the security of your wallet. Don't let people around you to know that you own Bitcoin and be private with your online investments.

And when the time that someone snatches a moment to see what's inside of it and tried to get it, they'd see nothing.

First off hardware wallets are no longer the safe haven we all thought they were and maybe hiding the private key or passphrase in plain sight should be the way to go...all those extra measures of alarms and all that just attract unnecessary attention which would certainly motivate someone to look into what you are protecting.

Maybe consider sharing the secret with the beta half to avoid having all this burden,if you trust nobody perhaps an implant would be considered if we want to go to the extremes.

You'll never know if someone sneaks in when you're out of the house and got their curiosity hit that safe.

And I think if you're going to share it with your better half or anyone who you would be trusting, make sure that you truly know them.

Because it's not a secret anymore that even in the family, there's a mole who would betray you and will sell you out if they have to.

Using a hardware wallet especially with the fact that you leave with your siblings is really an unwise decision to me in such an instance because no matter how had you try to protect the safe that you keep by your bed side they will still get to it out of curiosity, the more security precautions you take like alarms etc will end up drawing unnecessary attention to yourself, siblings will always be siblings, siblings will even prefer going to that one spot in the house that you ask them not to go out of curiosity and trust me once they suspect that you have bitcoin in your custody they will broadcast the news which isn’t so good security wise. This days hardware wallets are not entirely safe as they use to be in the past so to me you could just use other storage wallets that won’t require all this long process, the major thing is keeping your seed phrase safe.
