There is nothing wrong with their strategy because if you were there and you seen that you already make a small profit with your bitcoin hodlings and your prioritization is to pay all of your stake holders that trusted your business, id rather priority them because they trusted me and the business same thing like they did, they need to secure the trust of their investors to sustain the company and the business. Now if they seen profitable already and they head to the long term investment, buying back can be a good solution to accumulate more bitcoins.
That really makes sense to me, protecting the confidence of your investors is very important when you are running a business is just as important as holding the bitcoin for long term, you cannot  overlook your financial obligations because you believe that bitcoin will keep going up. The important thing is what they do after getting some profit, they can use that money to strengthen their business and buy later when a good opportunity comes, It can still work in their favour.

The main thing is making sure that the company have a healthy financial status while continuing to build it bitcoin position and at the end of the day it is not holding every bitcoin forever but managing the business good enough to keep accumulating over time.

True, I don't think it would be right to call Strategy's move a bad sell. They started accumulating Bitcoin long before the last bull run, so selling some of their holdings doesn't necessarily mean they sold at a loss.

They had already bought some of those coins much earlier, so it's very possible that they were taking profits from those positions.

I think what surprised people was that nobody expected Strategy to be among the first major Bitcoin holders to sell during a bear market. They have always had this very strong "never sell your Bitcoin" mentality, so seeing them sell naturally made people question whether their conviction had changed.
The reason why the strategy seem to be a wrong move is that I think is only few people that has been hold a Bitcoin for while and decide to sell when the price hints $60 and buy back immediately, but there’s some that it’s never be long when they buy the Bitcoin and with small time they decide to sell and buy back how do we expect those kind of people to get profits from their investments?

That’s why I said those kind of people’s have made a wrong movement in their investments, because with the way the Bitcoin market is fluctuating now there’s no way a person can buy Bitcoin, and within 1-2 months he sell back whereby his expected to gain some profits from the market, it’s possible but due to how the market goes now it would difficult to happen.

The advantage of Strategy is that they're in profit and so in their balance sheet, despite selling low and buying high. A billion of profit won't make a huge difference for that decision that they have to do. They're not playing out the market and all of these are well decided that has to be executed. The good thing about them is that they have accumulated again. Many didn't like it when they have sold and Saylor has defended it and said something offending to the others that his words are pertaining to the people of not selling and not Strategy, and that defines one thing that this might be done again in the near future.

The question is not how, but when

It is possible at the time they sold bitcoin they have made good profit from their hodling. Buying bitcoin at $80k is nothing bad , the reason to buy is to hodl Bitcoin. You cant question anyone why they sell their bitcoin and you csnt question why they are buying bitcoin at a given price. To you it might be a price that is high that you wont be willing to buy but it is a target for someone else to buy at any opportunity no matter the price. Strategy would sell his bitcoin if he thinks it is the right time for him, so you shouldn't be so concern about it.

There is no gain whatsoever selling your bitcoin at $60k and buying back at $80k. What was the purpose of selling the bitcoin? Was it panic selling or funds were withdrawn to settle emergencies? To me, this is a loss because buying at a higher price simply means you will be offered lesser quantity of bitcoin for a higher amount. You could say that whatever profit generated is being liquidated into the market because of an increase in price before purchase, does that look like a good investment strategy?
Well there might be a gain for them. Reason why they could have sold at $60k might to meet some financial obligations in their company. Moreover let's not forget that Saylors companies had lot's of share holders. So sometimes there might be need for them to raise cash for some other investments , or pay off some debt , or restructure their balance sheet. But I know that before they sold at that price, they would have made proper calculation to know if they are selling in loss.  It may be that they have more cash on ground for them to re build their position again at the $80k. I guess they believe Bitcoin might pump higher from there.

Exactly. Regardless of the current price, as long as you sell for profits, then that will never be considered a loss, even if we all know Strategy could have made bigger profits if they waited for bitcoin price to grow higher. But Strategy does not invest for simply bitcoin profits alone, they invested bitcoin to make  other investments thrive too.

Now this makes sense. For Strategy, selling low and buying high does not mean you're at loss, especially if you have been buying all along within the past months and year. You're never be at loss too if you use that funds for a profitable reason.

My perception about their performance or decisions on buying and selling is that they still bitcoin as cheap compared to what they know as bitcoin maximum capacity in this bull run or another bull run so they can afford to sell now and still get to buy back yet, we are scared for them because we have less capital and see a $10k change in price as a very big deal but it’s really not.
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with what strategy have done, sometimes you just have to fulfill some financial obligations to stay in the business, you have to do what’s best for business, this people buys a large portion of bitcoin, and we don’t know what price they bought there bitcoin, we only know they sold at $60k, but have we asked ourselves if they made profits or loose from that amount they sold, but I believe they sold in profits and not loose, lets consider they bought bitcoin at $59k, and they bought millions of dollars of bitcoin at $59k and then sold at $60k, don’t you know that they must have made so much profits when you’re buying bitcoin in bulk, not like normal people who are buying bitcoin small small portions.

And I think the strategy works for them which is why they are doing it.
I never thought of it this way, you’re right! The buy price could be lower than the sell price since we are not in the company to determine if it’s a lose sells or profit sells but however for a company with all level of marketing and financial gurus as employees they are not going to make mistakes for sure. If they had bought and sold at $1000 difference, that 1k difference could be 10 million dollar difference for them making profit and not loss for them, this means that the action was or could be a calculated move.

What I have noticed about Strategy is that the company only want something from bitcoin which they see bitcoin can achieve it. That is bitcoin to remain as a store of value and they see it as a young asset that still have potential to increase very well in the next few years. So they have the plans that if bitcoin continues to increase, their businesses stay strong and become larger.

They bought Bitcoin at a low price and bought Bitcoin at a high price, on average, they are currently in a profitable position. In this situation, they want to make more profits and started buying Bitcoin last week, after a long break of several months, they have started buying Bitcoin again. However, their long-term holding of Bitcoin gives other investors self-confidence, and they are a sign to survive in the future.
In the current situation, they need to make more profits and they will be able to do so in the future, because they have continued to buy Bitcoin, which is why they will be successful. If they can sell Bitcoin according to their plan, because they will keep holding Bitcoin for several more years in the future.

Strategy must have made reasonable amount of funds from their holdings before selling it and they must have bought Bitcoin more when the price was lesser than 60k way back then and so selling  at 60k, they must have made some profit even if not much as expected, but if they will still buy at 80k, then why would they sell it, it would have being better to keep holding for a more longer term than selling at at anytime, that sells was not that profitable because the quantity that was acquired after selling was not good at all.

No matter the situation I will keep holding my bitcoin because these selling and buying of bitcoin shows a good example of gambling and not profitable but loss.

You shouldn’t call that a bad move because you never can tell how much profits they have made since they started holding Bitcoin. It’s not as if they bought above the price they sold, they could have made 3 or 4 times of their money per Bitcoin from where they bought. So don’t only look at the price they sold at, but also look at the price they bought it back then. Even those who have been holding since 2022 have seen it go beyond what they bought. So even if they sell, we can’t call that a loss.

A win is a win, as long as you don’t lose. You may see it as wrong move, but they don’t see it that way. The reason why many people are surprised is, why would they sell their Bitcoin when they were going to buy back within a short period of time? They could have made more profit when the market increased from $60k to around $80k where they bought back. Perhaps they didn’t expect the market to increased from there.

So I would say the interesting question it not only how much Bitcoin strategy can accumulate during a bull market. But if during a prolonged bear market the model can remain strong. Buying of Bitcoin when the prices are rising looks so easy but to be able to manage same structure when both the MSTR and BTC are falling it the real test.
When you talk about "The Model" do you mean being able to buy bitcoin as well when in a bear market?
Lets take recent events from from as an example, Strategy had a 2 months pause in buying bitcoin and it was understandable since the price of bitcoin went very low and it crashed the value of MSTR stocks as well, but they ended the pause last week with buying approximately 4,603BTC with proceeds raised from selling common stocks, totaling their holdings to 845,050, so we can speculate they're able to sustain their aggressive purchases when BTC price is performing well and they're able to sell their common stock since it is backed by their BTC holdings.

all of strategy bitcoin purchases are publicly disclosed because they are a public company and have to comply with the sec's disclosure requirements. its not that hard to find the details of their bitcoin purchases and sales. im honestly surprised that neither of you knew this.

it's true that they sold Bitcoin to meet some financial obligations, but the sale was driven by financial pressure and their own poor decisions, not some smart calculated move like you guys are suggesting. their average Bitcoin purchase price was around $75k, while they sold nearly 7000btc at only around 62k–$65k. that's clearly a loss.

You can’t question anyone for selling their bitcoin, but you can question them why they sell without a good reason or when they sell without no making any profit from it. The company make a good profit from it,  that is why they sell the bitcoin, and they also believe that if they sell, and use the money to do what they want to, they can buy bitcoin with any price in the market, many companies do the same thing, but they make sure they do it in a good time that it will not affect them.

Buying bitcoin is not a problem if you have the money, anyone can buy bitcoin with any price, because there is a chance that the price will rise above the amount you bought it, so the company made a good decision by selling and then buying it even when the price is higher than what they sold, that shows that they understand bitcoin and how it works.

Selling bitcoin without any profit is acceptable, selling bitcoin with a small loss is acceptable to if they have good reasons for that. Like if they did not buy bitcoin with a safe financial background and investment plan, if shit happens, they must cut loss and if they can do that quickly to avoid bigger loss, it's good.

It's only whether that small loss and such hard decision are enough as lessons for them to change their mindset, and will never gamble in this market. They must change from gambling, speculating to actually investing with Bitcoin in this volatile but highly potential market.

I say it is good and acceptable because if they don't take necessary cut loss action quick enough, they might be liquidated and lose moss of their initial capital, that is terrible.

Of course, if you're looking at it strictly as a Bitcoin holder, it still looks like a bad deal: sell lower, buy higher, and you don't even buy back everything you sold, They sold 6,916 BTC and only bought 4,603 BTC back, so I wouldn't call it a brilliant Bitcoin trade, it's better understood as corporate financial management using Bitcoin as a treasury asset, and honestly, this is probably the interesting part of Strategy's model now: they are no longer saying Bitcoin can only go into the treasury, they are showing that, when necessary, Bitcoin can also come out of the treasury to solve a financial problem.

Investors who sell Bitcoin at a price of $60,000 are divided into two types: those who think it will go down to $40,000, or those who are forced to sell here now due to necessity or based on their own views, as in Strategy now. And if we’re talking about smaller scales, these are investors who simply have nothing to feed their families right now, they are forced to sell at this price, even though they understand intellectually that if they keep holding Bitcoin, the price will rise again. I would explain this approach as a lack of sufficient trading skills.

I belong to the type of traders who, unfortunately, due to a lack of extensive trading experience, were forced to sell their bitcoins because they needed money to pay for housing. In general, I had to take extreme measures and completely liquidate my portfolio, converting it into dollars, and it was very sad, because I understood that I was selling at the very bottom of the price range - it was around 63,000. I wholeheartedly believed that the price would rise back to 120,000, but, unfortunately, I was in a difficult economic situation. difficult economic situation

I don’t understand why traders like you never set aside extra money for a scenario where the price might fall. After all, you don’t have to invest absolutely all the money you have during your initial position, you can use only part of it and save the rest for the case when the price goes down, so you can either average down or spend that money on your life so as not to exit the trading position. That’s why I think Strategy might have made some kind of foolish move.

If you have to make an example of someone don't use those who have the money, however the tbing goes they have the funds, do you know how many people that are still sitting in the side ways waiting for 50,000 Bitcoin?

Many people are like that and I am sure most of them lack of experience in this market but with such people I can understand why they missed such great opportunities for buying bitcoin. They missed many prices around $60,000 and waited for prices around $50,000 but such people will change their plans with the market situations.

If Bitcoin market falls deeper to $50,000, they will change their plans and wait for prices around $40,000 and continue to lowering their purchasing target price. So with this mindset, they will never stop hesitation and actually buy bitcoin in a bear market.

It's unacceptable with people who already had experience in the market with one, two or more market cycles but still wait for absolute bottom price to buy bitcoin. They're different than newbies by having more experience in previous cycles but in action, they are the same as newbies, and very likely they will not change in the future.

Fortunately, in a same market, there are people like them who will waste opportunities and give the others good chances, like you or me and other intelligent investors who understand well about Dollar Cost Averaging.

Let's talk about them people sitting on their hands doing nothing, hoping and praying that the market get crashed so badly, not those who understands their money and the market.
The company you are talking about, is it MicroStrategy? If yes, how do you mean that they have done well by taking profits when it matters and now buying back at $80k? From my knowledge, the average cost of the total bitcoin owned by MicroStrategy was at about $75k https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/08/21/strategy-sits-on-usd1-4-billion-profit-on-bitcoin-holdings-as-price-surges as at when the company decided to sell off a part of their bitcoin at around $60k. Was that a profit taking approach? I may not understand what profit level they may have met in stock or for balancing their finances but as a bitcoin investor, it's plain to say that the over 6000 bitcoin sold by strategy was sold at loss as we all saw. They may have had a cumulative profit when you consider their reasons for selling at that moment but it's not like the profit was from their bitcoin sales. At the end it's all business and strategy just reminded us that anyone can do whatever he likes with his bitcoin at any time.

The part that should be consider is the opportunity cost of decision, cause even if with a good strategy reason to sell having to sell around $60k and than buying at $80k just mean that they returned with a fewer Bitcoin than that of the original sold. So this decision might have being of help to their business financially but to Bitcoin it not a good trade for itself.

This why I would say the performance of Bitcoin transaction and performance of business should be separated, a decision from the company can be of use to the business but would be a poor trade on the asset itself.
