Having to keep Bitcoin on an exchange because you want to sell quickly can be  risky most especially when the amount is large, and again moving of everything to self custody without having a proper knowledge on how to secure your wallet can also be a problem. Storage method will be an important thing to do and it will be choose base on your amount and how often you will want to access the funds. Exchange sweetable  for small amount for regular trading, while for a long term holding self custody with a proper backup.

I would think both security of ones Bitcoin and the price is important to mostly a trader as compared to a holder. Due to the reasons that a Bitcoin holder may use a particular strategy like dollar cost averaging and the price at any time may not really matter much because the commitment to hold is what matters more and the amount investment regularly. Yes, security is more important than owning Bitcoin because even after depositing a large amount of Bitcoin, many people are not able to keep their Bitcoin wallet safe.
