It actually sounds like you have quite a sad life if you think people must always give you something in return for their company and I doubt you get "bothered" by many people at all. Life is not all about money and you should be careful driving people away like that, because fortunes are always changing and you might be the one seeking help from these people that you shunned in future. Greed is a dangerous thing and can lead to very short sighted behavior, there is lots more to life than that - laughing, love, joy and happiness are often not associated to any money at all. But TV gives you a view of the world, so in my humble opinion, ignoring the world actually makes you blind. If you can't in good conscience, shut your eyes to events of the world!! That can have a negative impact on your business and you may not see it coming until it is too late. If you only put all your attention on your small scale shop and then choose to ignore key policies or decisions taken by the government that drive global changes, then you will be caught off guard and unprepared when the economy direction shifts. Take, for instance, if some global crisis happens or a new law regarding tax circulates, these types of global events affect the value of currency and it will likely affect your savings without you realizing on time. so watching the big picture is not a waste of time or energy.

There are lots of reasons why it is very important to focus more on benefits you than whatever is out to take your money and time but gaining certain informations by learning about what's going on in your environment isn't a waste of resources at all because that's something that can actually save some one's life. I think people focus too much on how to make money and totally forget that the circumstances surrounding their environment plays a vital role towards their success in business or investment. There’s need to be aware of the happenings within the environment so as to be prepared before time. There could be crisis going on and most people wouldn’t know and meanwhile businesses doesn’t flourish in a place hits by crisis. I could figured out that what he meant is that if you are still someone who is still struggling to make it in life that you should cut off your attention doing things that won't be of beneficial to you rather such energy should be use in finding ways to make wealth. Well, the OP has figured it out and sensed that our attention and our time are being exploited. I recently did a board review on my life where i just divided my task into different category to have more visuals on what i do exactly and i could clearly see that my personal life was suffering and obviously thats affecting my health without me even knowing but of course, prior to that review i was just working on my task everyday trying to get more money and just survive. Who cares about news that doesn't benefit them. Days are gone when people were so concerned about listening to news and staying updated to trends and happenings around the world. Now, everyone is simply focused on what is going to put food on their table. I don't even remember the last time I watched news on TV, or movies. The only time I can watch TV is during weekends when there is a football match. Aside that, I don't have any time to spend on unproductive things. If i want news I can check few news channels that I'm subscribed to on X and afterwards I go back to my business. The economy is not smiling at anyone so I fear if there are still people that spends time on what doesn't benefit them. Except for fun activities which is also necessary to keep the brain refreshed, otherwise it is unwise to spend time on things that doesn't add value to your life.

If you intend to invest in shares, stocks, bonds, and others, listening to global news is essential. I am not saying one should dedicate all their time to listening to and discussing global events. I see some people gathering at newspaper stands to argue about national issues while others are at their place of work. I disagree a when you say that our profits have nothing to do with world politics or news. Suppose if there is a big war somewhere in the world, the price of oil and the price of goods in the market suddenly increase, that is, inflation starts.
