Why can't they adopt the Bitcoin?

Quote
Scotland has been in a debate over which form of currency to use and is allowing all Scots to give their input. If chosen, a digital currency alternative will be known as the Scotcoin.

Would be a great experiment that's for sure, but I think it'd be a case of too soon. Plus, Scotland needs to actually vote for independence first.

Thank you.

Scot-coin? Come on now.. Who ever made this by all means, it was a decent creation but wasa waste of time. Bitcoin is tried and tested moe so than any other alt-coin but they media had tarnished an image for to long.

Silk Road
Money Laundering
Tax Evasion

EVERYONE using bitcoin must be a mastermind criminal in the eyes of the government. No alt coin is ready for nation wide adoption, but if any can try - it should be bitcoin.

Think of the cost per head of teaching people how to use it, that alone is a waste of money. Or should I say Scotcoins.

No Altcoins ready, but if any should try - then we should go Bitcoin. It's beat to the ground time and time again and it gets back up. We can rely on it.

Scot-coin? Yes.... Lets let our whole nations monetary value be definedby something that was made not to long ago, and has hadlittle to no testing. That would be intelligant.

Even if Scotland eventually votes for Independence, I am sure that they will chose the Euro over any cryptocurrency.

Why can't they adopt the Bitcoin?

No nation state will adopt bitcoin officially, ever. You have to be living in a fantasy land to think otherwise. At best it will always be just a complementary currency, although at turbulent (hyper)inflationary times it may take a big share of the market, but again, unofficially. Actually this scenario is very likely, as we see nation states are gearing up for more quantitative easing (aka money printing) in the next years, which should help other forms of currencies to become more popular.

The reason is simple: a nation state wants to control currency issuance, but it's impossible with a decentralized currency. Any fantasy about an attempt to premine a currency and distribute it among the population is utterly stupid for 2 reasons: 1) distributing the currency for free is a stupid form of distribution as it lowers the value, because people only value what they must work for to get, and is prone to massive dumps of that currency; 2) why go through computer 'mining' process they (those who make decisions) don't quite understand if they could just produce any number of traditional digital currency in the form of bank entries with a few mouse-clicks, or print good old bank notes, and reach the same effect.

* For reference: official currency is the one taxes are paid in.

You don't know that. It's unlikely, especially any time soon, but I don't think it's impossible. Maybe a state might issue their own sometime in the future.

And a country might not 'officially' adopt it or another crypto but they might not have a choice if people dump their state issued currency and start using a coin.

Sounds like they're voting for dependence but via a different master. It was the EU that fucked Ireland's population in order to save their precious banks. Fcukers.

Actually I prefer "Scrotcoin."

Also Scotland haven't separated yet.

The Scottish independence referendum is scheduled for September 18, 2014.

But the opinion polls are saying that the referendum will fail, just like the Quebec referendum.
