OK, here's something I would like to ask EVERYONE, my fellow PLEBS, in the topic,

A simple question - If a product is marketed as "Halal", does that actually mean it's a better product? OR is it currently used merely as a marketing "gimmick" to convince people that the product is "better"?

It's not a better product, in my opinion. It is what Muslims consume, and I believe they have taken out some ingredients so that they can market it to the Middle Eastern countries with many Muslims living there. If a product is being sold internationally, it's best if it can satisfy everyone. Muslims or non-Muslims, and it's not the consumers that should adjust; it is the company that makes it that should do it. So the choice would be to create two products instead of one, but with almost the same ingredients. The other one would be halal and the other just regular.

Should the "halal" choice be more expensive because it was made specially for it? No, I don't think so, but the market and the product distribution should be focused on countries with many Muslims to get better profits.

If you live in a country where Christians, Muslims, and atheists all live, then producing and selling halal food products is, in my opinion, very profitable.🙋

Muslims will buy them because their religion requires it. Christians and atheists will buy them because their religion/beliefs don't prohibit them from doing so. Therefore, producing halal food products is more economically viable than producing non-halal ones.

I'm a Christian myself, but I buy halal beef, chicken, and sausages. I'm satisfied with the quality and price. It's also convenient that the halal grocery store is close to my home.💁

This certification label is sold to any manufacturer who is willing to pay for it. However, there is no subsequent monitoring of the manufacturer. For an experiment, you can buy two chickens: one regular, the other halal, and compare whether the latter is actually bled out. This is not in the manufacturer’s interest at all, as it reduces the weight. Of course, not all manufacturers cheat, but! Certification has practically become a marketing gimmick rather than a real confirmation of halal status.

P.S. I also buy halal products, but for me this label means nothing - only the manufacturer matters.

Thanks for this post. I didn't think that there would be an honest individual in this topic. Personally, I believe, that like all those other marketing gimmicks, "Halal" could also be used to manipulate large groups of people because "Halal" is interpreted as a religious concept.

Because if the food you're eating is not "Halal", then is it truly "harmful"?

If you research that misappropriate action you will find that many companies violated halal rules.

In this article there's three companies in Malaysia violate for misusing the halal logo https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2026/07/24/three-firms-charged-with-misusing-halal-logo?

This is truly dangerous for our Muslim brothers since imagine if it happens that what they consume is not halal, because there's a company mislead them. That's why government should have strict monitoring towards this matters, so they can avoid those company abusive companies intentionally doing such act.

Technically, if we remove "religious beliefs" and accept the physical world for what it truly is, eating non-Halal food won't actually be harmful. BUT respecting religious concepts, you're right. The psychological harm that it could cause if our Muslim brothers eat non-Halal food would be very bad.

It might be laughable for some people, but we do need to respect our cultural differences.

What we are talking about here is about joining a business empire that can help in building an economic growth, and not all about religion. I think countries should learn how to embrace any idea that that will help in moving them forward regardless of who is behind that innovation or business, as we can see, there are already non Moslem nations joining halal, and they are doing so because they have already seen growth in that business, and also understand how beneficial it will be if the eventually take part in joining such business. If you are a business man, and you see anyone doing any business that interest you, you are allowed to partner or join that very person especially if you are welcomed.

I see pure business mindset on your point of view, and i agree that big corporation/ business imperium take a rational financial decision only to catch bigger margin opportunity. It's all about the money, its about the optimization of company growth and no personal sentiments involved. On these modern trading era which more important not the creator of the innovation but who is the most adaptable.

Giant non moslem corporations treat this sector purely as a macro investment strategy involving billions of dollars in assets. We can take example of JBS (A meat giant from Brazil), as non moslem corporation they do massive expansion and investing in the establishment of a multi protein supply chain center on some country in middle east. They choose middle east not only as market but also their global strategic production base. Anoithe company BRF (Brazilian food conglomerate) build a food processing plant in Saudi Arabia, their asset consolidation on middle east touch fantastic value.

I think those brazil imperium ivestment sufficient to prove that they do not need to change their beliefs (to become moslem), just sufficiently compliant with quality standardization regulations, they can capture a global market share worth trillions of dollars. Aren't they genuine businessman?

The expansion of the halal economy well beyond food into sectors like cosmetics and tourism is massive. It makes total sense that non-Muslim countries are trying to tap into that growing market.

There is a legitimate market for halal food with millions of customers, so if a business is offering halal food and products, then it means they are responding to the actual customer demand, just like they do for vegetarian, kosher, vegan or other dietary requirement based food. A business is serving a particular group of people that does not necessarily lack backbone. It is not okay to blame any religion for any particular thing that they do. The halal market is very large and business is our serving them all over the world. You cannot call religious people barbarians.

I agree, where there is demand, supply will meet it. I think expansion to other sector such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fashion, tourism, and even logistics is a logical response because accommodating customer needs anf preference means providing inclusive and professional service. As businessman we should think that customer has the right to access safe products that meet the standards they trust, so so there is no need to judge or speculated politically.

You have given a logical and financial explanation but bro, I really think it is a mentality game. Muslims can drink alcohol occasionally, not all because not every Muslim is like this, only a few are and I am talking about those few, but those few would never compromise on eating pork because they have heard enough bad stuff about pork, like how diseaseful it is and even it lacks the taste.

I have not tested but I can tell from this behavior of those people.

So they try alcohol because it must be giving them some kind of relief, but pork it is nothing but a house of diseases that can fill your body with worms and other problems so better to stay away from it haha, which is good but why this distinction anyway?

We can't discuss it unless someone who is like this comes and tells, or I can ask one. I have seen many haha.

From my country culture i think cultural conditioning from an early age play important part on explained phenomenon. Pig alwas attached with the stigma of unclean /filth (najis), dirty, and disgusting anf usually explained with disguss emotion. This repetitive information causes us to automatically reject it. Meanwhile, alcohol is often left out of the discussionon school or with family beside that Alcohol is associated with a modern, global lifestyle and entertainment, with the added magic words "as long as you don't get drunk", so it seems that the level of haram is not as bad as pork. From my observation, there is alcohol addiction but pork addiction not familiar even there aren't, so craving also make people don't eat pork but consume alcohol.

But some moslem has another thinking even both alcohol and pork are haram with all the adverse effects. Nutrient from solid food are absorbed by the body and some converted to energy and some become muscle tissue. Meanwhile, alcohol is broken down into energy and secreted through urine, breath, and sweat.

They perceive this as some future question. Will there be a dominance of non-Muslim countries over halal? They already do. It is been years since that ship sailed.

Brazil exports more halal poultry than all OIC countries combined. JBS, BRF, these are industrial juggernauts, whose slaughter capacity Muslim-majority countries simply cannot replicate at such a cost. Approximately 45% of all New Zealand red meat is certified as halal. It allows them to maintain the fluidity of their export pipeline among destinations.

Having a big Muslim consumer base does not mean you win the production game. Comparative advantage is not like that. Never has been.

What then are the counter-move from importing countries? Regulation. Indonesia's BPJPH mandate kicks in next month. In October 2026, thed will expand the certification requirement to cosmetics, pharma, even logistics and warehousing.

This is the true battle here. It is not about who has more Muslims. They are trying to control the certification chokepoint. Bureaucratic gate-keepers on one hand, and factories on the other. Both extracting rent.

Agree, as biggest moslem population country in the world I am sad to accept the reality we are merely a market, not a player who dominated. Yes and explained battle of chokepoints can clearly explained that standardization has shifted become non tariff barriers. For balancing the trade, importing country use bureaucratic regulations. The battle of economic strategy against global corporate giants is a real world geopolitical game.

But isn't using religion to help market a product, and to use it to help generate more profit "Haram"?

I have been asking some GENUINE questions in this topic, which all of them were ignored.

Besides Halal as a "marketing tool". Is this "Halal" thing merely another form of propaganda to create an illusion that if a product is "not Halal", then it's a "bad" and "inferior" product?

If enough people will believe in those sorts of none-sense, it might start affecting their life-choices, and therefore opens an attack vector for manipulation.

Dude seem you are mixing two activity between meeting the needs of moslem consumers by providing halal products and using religious sentiment to manipulate consumers for profit. Those bring different meaning, the first one are business response through market preference and other are potential for religious exploitation. Beside that base on sharia economic and trade law, using religious value for commerciallization and profit are not prohibited which mean halal as long as there is no element of fraud, overclaim or manipulation practice, such as affixing halal fake labels, affixing label without conduct hygiene and supply chain audits on material and production process. As long as the physical quality is genuinely tested and passed halal parameter testing it is a legitimate trade, not exploitation.

Manipulation and propaganda accusation are exaggerating because this is purely only a matter of market technical specifications. The halal label has never promoted the narrative that non certified products are bad or inferior, it is simply that the product has not yet metor has not yet been verified against specific halal requirements. You also have to separated between the halal principle as a religious requirement vs the use of halal certification as a commercial instrument. Halal requirement already existed and practiced by moslem in the world long bedore halal business developed today. So it is not the industry create the demand but  matter of fact industry respond to consumer need and preference that already exist

Plese separated between commercialization od religious value and exploutation of religious beliefs. Creating commercial profit from religious value not haram AS LONG AS with proper buying and selling practices & free from elements of fraud which can bring disadvantageous to consumers. Business does not create the halal principle, businesses only respond to the market formed by that principle.
