I think people still don't understand the value of their crypto security and their life, which we often call basic OpSec or Operational Security. What overall makes a cryptocurrency are its users, but if a person was to lose their life along the way, would it be a disadvantage to the asset Yes and no, depending on the amount of money you invested or who you are. So, is it worth taking the risk to intimidate other people with your investments?, Though I have no say in a person's decision I still think people should value their well being first before valuing their asset, even if it's not a crypto asset fiat currency included.

Folks often resort to violence due to money issues because they aren't reasonable, and along the line either someone gets severely injured or dies. At the end of the day life goes on. While in this space it's different but also similar ,people often endanger themselves because they're not wise especially newbies who get excited at the beginning of their journey. Like for example, tell me why someone would choose for people to call him something like BTC Boy, or something that adds BTC to their name or even FX/ Forex trader? Does it even make any sense. whether he or she isn't an investor or is an investor / trader I see no reason for such. Is it a symbol of respect ?, or are you placing yourself as a target for physical attacks ? Even if you are just playing there are some things you don't play with because any one can take it seriously that includes bad people.

I'm saying this because most persons are fond of doing it in our country, and I hear most of my friends giving themselves such names. Though it's not my business it's still kind of dangerous because if word was to reach the wrong kinds of people, he or she would be endangering themselves. And if they are truly investors, it would mean they are also risking the safety of their assets. It might seem like something that is normal to you with no harm, and also sounds cool but it's not. There is no point in such names, and there is no point in telling people or friends you are an investor .stuff like that ends up drawing wrong attention to you.thats why to me real crypto security isn't just about hardware wallets and passwords it starts with you being responsible ,reasonable , deciplined and a grey man. It's safe to say we should be mindful of the words we use outside this space.. That's all......

Nigerians are still benefiting that most armed criminals do not know much about cryptocurrencies now like how it has been in France and some other countries in Europe but it is only a matter of time because this can become common later in the future that some people will be kidnapped and ransom will be demanded in bitcoin or in altcoins.

I have not seen it before but I believe some people can do it. I can not call myself BTC Karl or what is related to cryptocurrencies. I do not discuss out cryptocurrencies indepth with anyone. When discussing with people around me, I just play along like I do not really know about cryptocurrencies.

Even my friends do not really know that I know much about cryptocurrencies because I value my privacy.

So, is it worth taking the risk to intimidate other people with your investments?

Why would anyone in their right senses intimidate others with their investments? Does that make them more valuable than the other person? You would never see a whale showing off his wallet publicly or intimidate others with what they have, its always the people who have a couple thousand dollars that flaunt their wallet online for the sake of recognition and promotion.

Personally, I do not follow everything I see online, because there are so many fake traders that flaunt a watch wallet online, attract newbies to follow their trend and launch a potential scam scheme that nobody suspects.

real crypto security isn't just about hardware wallets and passwords it starts with you being responsible ,reasonable , deciplined and a grey man.
Spot on! You can use a 24-word seed phrase, a "physically secure hardware wallet" and multisig, but none of that matters if somebody decides to go for you in the real world and threatens you. The technical security is broken right away when the physical security is compromised.
People often underestimate how effortless it is to connect with the actual world position utilizing online flexing. It begins with a name that may be "BTC_Boy" in the local groups or social media, followed by posts of pictures of lifestyle upgrades or shares information about crypto in the local forums. From there, simple OSINT enables ill doers to establish a correlation between that online handle and an actual identity and neighborhood.

I don't know if I will say that's traders that love to show off their bitcoin but I wouldn't be surprised if a new investor is showing off just to be proud of himself. One thing with riches is that you keep it secret if not, you will be attacked because you don't know who is your enemy. I find it difficult to tell people I'm a bitcoin investor.

I believe that the reason why many people who are into cryptocurrency flaunts their assets in the open is due to ignorance, they don't know the level of dangers that they are getting themselves into by revealing information that should remain private, I believe that if most of these ignorant people knows the depth of what they're getting themselves into they would definitely think twice. If I were not in this forum and not abreast with crypto news I guess that if I have cryptocurrency that is giving me profit I might innocently share the information about how crypto have been profitable to me without knowing the extent of danger that I'm putting myself into. People perish due to lack of knowledge so it is essential that we should try to be very much informed in any areas of life that we have interests in. If you're not informed your lack of knowledge can get you deformed physically,  financially, mentally or even cost you your life.

So, is it worth taking the risk to intimidate other people with your investments?, Though I have no say in a person's decision I still think people should value their well being first before valuing their asset, even if it's not a crypto asset fiat currency included.

You're doing the crypto industry a favour especially Bitcoin when you die without anyone having access to your wallets because you're reducing the circulating amount of Bitcoin that could've been tradable so you aren't doing anyone but yourself if you get careless with your life. Probably other altcoins can mint tokens as they wish but Bitcoin has a fixed supply so any one lost makes the remaining more valuable. Most people don't care about telling you to protect your life when given crypto protection advice because they believe that should be something you already hold at high value , it's your life so why shouldn't you love it and limit it being exposes to danger that's why bragging about how much you own in Bitcoin is a risk you shouldn't be seen partaking in. The whole world don't have to know you're into crypto unless your business is show business that needs it for clout but still your life gets put more in danger the more people know you're a crypto investor.

The post is insightful and a warning to pay heed to because Naija has become a very dangerous place and a hot ground for kidnapping, and other crimes that is aimed at wealthy flamboyant or even top or struggling individuals who don't know how to keep their secret or know how to blend into the society while hiding their wealth.

The question I want to ask though is, how do we or are we supposed to teach people about Bitcoin when our own security is at risk? It might not just be the name calling that bears a security threat, but also trying to help others learn about Bitcoin could become a security issue.

It's safe to say we should be mindful of the words we use outside this space.. That's all......

There are basically three sets of people that love to show off, one is the newbies that aren't truly aware of Bitcoin's value and how they need to protect it and themselves from potential scammers and another set are the people that knows absolutely nothing about Bitcoin but loves the sound of the name and are just attaching the name to themselves to look smart or big to their peer, and the third set are scammers that lure their victims through the name and make them believe that they are genuine and ignorant newbies are mostly their targets. So a true Bitcoin investor knows the risks of putting themselves out there in public just to show off their assets and they are totally private and security wise.

Everyone is not the same, some persons do not understand that anything that has to do with Bitcoin investment has to be secret, there are things that most of us that are opportune be here has learned overtime, we know of privavy which which Bitcoin represents, some investors out there may not have good knowledge all that, some see their Bitcoin hodling as something to brag with, not knowing that they indirectly putting themselves in danger.
An investors Bitcoin hodlings should be confidential, exposing it, knowingly or ignorantly may have severe and regrettable consequences.

Most of the guys that parade themselves as investors are just looking to get attention and public applaud forgetting that same attention can result to harming them eventually. leaving a low profile life is something that can not be over emphasized as long as this niche is concerned because same government and security agencies that are not outrightly against crypto and the usage of bitcoin will harass you if they notice you are holding bitcoin.

Even though formally, using bitcoin or being an investor is not a crime, you can not even go to a police personnel and tell them that you are an investor. your intention might be positive but be rest assured that the reaction from them will not be favorable. the same way the safety of your asset is important, being careless about it will not guarantee the safety of your life.

But honestly, answering nicknames like this doesn’t mean you are endangering yourself to me. Because even if though you are answering a bad name and you are not doing anything bad, that does not make you a bad person. So what I am trying to say is, even though you call yourself Dangote and you don’t have a dime in your bank account nobody will send you. So even if you are answering BTC boi or Pluto boi, as long as people do not see any signs from you, will nobody send you.

However, the most important thing is that if you are into trading or anything that will make people believe that you are making money, don’t show yourself off. we have many people who are aware that showing can put you in trouble, but they don’t care. Anywhere they enter they want people to know they are there. But people that really have money don’t like to show off.

This is why i always say it is great to be a part of the bitcointalk community, you learn so much, particularly about security. You'd be shocked at the number of people who own bitcoin in our country, but they have never heard of a $5 wrench attack, they do not know that they can be attacked and forced to hand over their keys to their attackers.

I'm pretty sure nobody who is a part of the Nigerian bitcointalk community can do something as stupid as this, and put a target on their backs. I know it is common for people in any part of the world to try and make people notice how rich they are, but the truth is that there is really no benefit to that, it only opens one up to risks.

Time for everybody to carry their cross, most of the FX traders with nicknames on the internet are selling their market, we don't see how it works for them, but that is what they do to maintain popularity. They mingle with others with similar content and shoot crypto content, not because they are really into trading or investing, but because it is some way for them to stay relevant and make money online.

For those who are mainly into crypto trading, earn mainly from tutorial classes, meeting them offline, they might be broke and unable to rob them of anything valuable, internet is a wild place, don't believe most people who claim or add certain prefixes to their names to sound wealthy, audio money at times.
