http://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/blog/morning-edition/2014/04/bitcoin-atm-bites-the-dust.html

I live in Albuquerque, and went to the smoking bar mentioned in the article last weekend to check out the Bitcoin ATM, but it was already gone.

It is unfortunate that it didn't last long here.  It seems to me that smoking bars would be really off-putting for most people.  Heck, as a non-smoker, I was even hesitant to go there, although my curiosity finally won out.  When I went, there were three bouncers at the door checking IDs. When I asked them about the Bitcoin ATM, they laughed and said that it was gone because Bitcoin went bankrupt.  Undecided

Not to be pedantic, but the article is wrong.  The Albuquerque Bitcoin ATM was the first in the USA, but not in the world.  The first was set up in Canada.

Were the ATMs somehow tied to MtGox?

Thanks for the article. It is nice to have follow-up stories and sad that this ATM operator has no clue about customer demand. A 21+ only bar for heavy smokers doesn't attract many bitcoiners. He was obviously blinded by the allure of being first.

I seriously doubt it.

He left some pamphlets and business cards. There was no mention of Mt. Gox.

Perhaps the ATM was a bit complex for the first-time users. Or may be because Albuquerque is less hip-hop compared to the British Colombian cities.

Bitcoin went bankrupt? haha.

Many people think Bitcoin went bankrupt.
The media did huge damage exacerbating Gox's destruction.

Good news: The price is so low that a recovery is likely.

Yes... they media is trying quite hard to keep people away from Bitcoin. Let's see for how long they'll succeed. The prices will bounce back when Mark K ends up in jail and the coins are recovered from him.

I have lived in Albuquerque for 13 years. I have yet to meet a "meth-head".

The people of Albuquerque are just like the people I have encountered elsewhere. Some good, some bad.

I'm not so sure about that. I think we'll need a few big merchant adaptation and some decent media exposure before we bounce back.

It's not uncommon for cryptoanarchist to make such ignorant comments. He's probably just watched Breaking Bad.

Meth is not much of a problem in the South USA. The problem mostly exists in the North-west, such as Montana.

Albuquerque is having a large blue-collar population, and 58% of the population is minority. Not the typical pro-Bitcoin population.
